None could control emotions, when small kids bid final goodbye to their fathers in Kupwara, Sopore villages; These children will die every day, say locals

Srinagar, Dec 11: The perpetual strife is taking a serious toll on human lives in Kashmir be those from the security forces, especially police or the common people. While the Hyderpora encounter left two Srinagar families shattered leaving at least five orphans in a life-time shock, the children of two policemen killed in militant strike at Gulshan Chowk, Bandipora was no less shocking.

The two policemen were lone bread winners for their families, who left behind minor children and elderly parents. Policeman Muhammad Sultan (37), one of the slain cops in Bandipora attack, a resident of Shah Wali Muqam area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, was laid to rest at the native graveyard with a large number of people attending his funeral prayers.

Relatives of the slain cop said that he has left behind four children among them two (twins) who are barely four-month old, his wife, and an elderly father.

They said that he had joined the department back in 2009 and since then was the lone bread earner of the family. “He was a noble soul and now his family is left with no option other than to beg on streets,” the mourning relatives of slain Sultan told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “What will happen when these twins grow and when they will ask for their father,” said a relative pointing towards the two toddlers who were unmindful of their father’s killing.

Similarly, the relatives of second slain cop Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of Banpora Lalpora, Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district said that Fayaz was the lone child of their parents.

“He was not only the lone bread earner of his family, but rather the only child of his parents,” they said. “He left behind his elderly parents, wife, and four children. They are all in shock. Perhaps this shock will kill them all no matter even if they breathe and eat food, they would be worse than dead.”

A mourner at Fayaz’s house said that people of Kashmir know who takes care of children and wives of martyrs. “There is no one except God. Though during the four-days of mourning, all make tall claims about this and that, but later there is none,” he said amid tears. At the residences of both slain cops, none could control their tears when little children of slain were wailing over the coffins of their fathers, bidding final adieu to them.

Parents, wives and the children of both the slain cops in a state of shock and grief, however, were seen crying, “Kashmir is a living hell, we don’t want to live too….”

Earlier, the minor son of building owner of Hyderpora encounter victim, took internet by a storm when he was seen trying to wake up his dead father at a graveyard by saying repeatedly, “papa wake up, wake up, its prayer time, wake up, mom and didi is waiting for you.”—(KNO)

  • Covid-19 Pandemic causing rise in high blood pressure cases: Doctors Association Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 11: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday said the number of people with high blood pressure has increased since Covid-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic is causing a rise in blood pressure,” said DAK President and Influenza expert Dr Nisar ul Hassan.

Quoting a study conducted on half a million adults published in the Journal Circulation, Dr Hassan said people had a significant rise in blood pressure during the pandemic year 2020 as compared to the previous year.

“The study found that the blood pressure increase affected all age groups, and both men and women, although larger increases were seen in women,” he said.

The DAK President said hospitals in Kashmir are witnessing more patients with high blood pressure during the pandemic.

“Persons who had normal blood pressure prior to pandemic are showing high numbers,” he said adding even those who were controlled on medication are reporting worsening of blood pressure.

Dr Nisar said Pandemic stress could be the reason for higher blood pressure levels.

“When you are in a stressful situation, your body produces hormones that can cause your heart to beat faster and narrow your blood vessels. If you are constantly in this fight or flight state, it can increase your risk of high blood pressure,” he said.

“Other factors responsible for high blood pressure levels during pandemic could be sedentary lifestyle, exercising less, eating more, sleeping less and not seeking regular health care,” he added.

General Secretary DAK Dr Arshad Ali said while during a pandemic it is important to get vaccinated and follow health guidelines, it is equally important to be mindful of chronic medical conditions like deteriorating blood pressure.

“People should manage their stress, eat a healthy diet, cut down salt intake, exercise regularly and monitor their blood pressure,” he said.

Spokesperson DAK Dr Riyaz Ahmad Dagga said high blood pressure, also known as hypertension is the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. It can also damage kidneys and eyes

“With respect to Covid-19, those with high blood pressure are at greater risk of severe disease if they get infected with the virus,” he added.

Jammu 10 Dec: The National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders are still making daily basis statements against abrogation of Article 370, its restoration and assuring people to continue fight till this Special Status is back. Even a lay man understands it very well that Article 370 has gone and became part of the history. This is hard reality but regional political parties are not ready to read the writing on the wall which clearly says that Article 370 is no more.

In a statement, Jammu and Kashmir BJP Spokesperson Abhijeet Jasrotia, said this while reacting to the repeated utterances of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti in particular, who are left with no task but to speak on Special Status to play emotional card for their own political survival.
These leaders have been well aware of the fact that Article 370 was a temporary provision and it would be better for them to first explain as to what did their parties do to strengthen and  make it  permanent one, he said.

Abhijeet Jasrotia reminded these leaders that both of them too have been MPs under oath of the Constitution to respect the Parliament and they need to honour the abrogation of Article 370 as it has been repealed by the same Parliament. To the height of befooling innocent public these parties have crossed all the limits because on 5th aug 2019 collectively 5 MP in the parliament who could have resigned but on the contrary they were seen running from shop to shop a day before looking for a worn out kurta which they can easily torn in front of media. This shows bigotry of such parties who have nothing to show people of J&K on their report card of 5 decades that is why they are ranting raga of Art-370..
Which they too know will never come back..

He expressed hope that good sense prevails on them and they work to support the Union Government in its initiatives for peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.

  • New Zealand to ban cigarettes for future generations

New Zealand will ban the sale of tobacco to its next generation, in a bid to eventually phase out smoking.
Anyone born after 2008 will not be able to buy cigarettes or tobacco products in their lifetime, under a law expected to be enacted next year.
“We want to make sure young people never start smoking,” Health Minister Dr Ayesha Verall said.
The move is part of a sweeping crackdown on smoking announced by New Zealand’s health ministry on Thursday.
Doctors and other health experts in the country have welcomed the “world-leading” reforms -which will reduce access to tobacco and restrict nicotine levels in cigarettes.
“It will help people quit or switch to less harmful products, and make it much less likely that young people get addicted to nicotine,” said Prof Janet Hook from the University of Otago.

New Zealand is determined to achieve a national goal of reducing its national smoking rate to 5% by 2025, with the aim of eventually eliminating it altogether.
Currently, about 13% of New Zealand adults smoke, down from 18% about a decade ago. But the rate is much higher – about 31%- among the indigenous Maori population who also suffer a higher rate of disease and death.

New Zealand’s health ministry says smoking causes one in four cancers and remains the leading cause of preventable death for its five million strong population. The industry has been the target of legislators for more than a decade now.
As part of the crackdown announced on Thursday, the government also introduced major tobacco controls – including significantly restricting where cigarettes can be sold to remove them from supermarkets and corner stores.
The number of shops authorised to sell cigarettes will be drastically reduced to under 500 from about 8,000 now, officials say.
In recent years, vaping – smoking e-cigarettes which produce a vapour that also delivers nicotine – has become far more popular among younger generations than cigarettes.
New Zealand health authorities warn however, that vaping is not harmless. Researchers have found hazardous, cancer-causing agents in e-cigarette liquids as well.
But in 2017 the country adopted vaping as a pathway to helping smokers quit tobacco.
