HIGHLIGHTS
1. Bangladesh players get into the faces of Indians after U-19 World Cup
2. The players clashed on the field aftet the end of the final
3. Bangladesh beat India to win their maiden U-19 World Cup title
Bangladesh registered a shock three-wicket win via the DLS method over defending champions India to clinch their maiden U-19 World Cup title on Sunday. The Bangladesh bowlers were aggressive and got in the faces of the Indian batsmen from the very start after they had elected to bowl, having won the toss. Both Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled extremely well with the new ball but were also guilty of launching verbal volleys at the Indians. And after Rakibul Hasan hit the winning runs for Bangladesh, the emotions seemed to spill over for the victorious team as they aggressively charged onto the field, again getting into the faces of the dejected Indian players. It led to some ugly scenes after the final as the Indian players confronted their Bangladesh counterparts with the umpires having to step in to separate a few players.
According to a report in PTI, as soon as the match ended, it became tense with Bangladeshi players rushing to the ground and most of them still displaying aggressive body language. In fact, one India player rushed to confront and pushed a Bangladeshi player who had allegedly said uncharitable things and it was coach Paras Mhambrey seen calming his team.
Here are clips of the incident from various angles after the U-19 World Cup final:
Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his unbeaten 43, apologised on the behalf of his team and admitted that emotions got the better of some of his teammates.
“I don’t know exactly (about the incident) but what happened should not have. In the final, emotions can come out and sometimes the boys were getting pumped. As a youngster it should not be happening. In any manner, we have to show respect to our opponents and we should have the respect for the game because cricket is known as the gentleman’s game. So, I’ll be sorry for my team.
“India-Bangladesh brings out the spark and before the World Cup final we lost the Asia Cup final to them. So the boys were too pumped up and wanted to take revenge. I will not say that it should be happening but I’m sorry from my side.”
A dejected India captain Priyam Garg said that his team were fine despite losing the final but the reaction that came from the Bangladesh players after winning the final was “bad”.
“We were easy. Winning and losing is a part and parcel of the game. But the reaction from the other side was bad. That should not have happened,” said India captain Priyam Garg in the post-match press conference.
“Sometimes these things happen. Players can get emotional because there is so much at stake. Whatever happened wasn’t good. I think it’s not good for cricket as well. I think in the future you got to be careful with these things,” said India coach Paras Mhambrey said of the incident.

The BJP tweeted out a video of Muslim voters standing in queue for the Delhi elections, all of them showing their voter ID cards.

New Delhi: Even as thousands came out to vote in the Delhi elections, the Karnataka unit of the BJP today tweeted out a video clip of a long queue of Muslim women voters along with a suggestion that they keep their identification cards “safe” for the impending National Population Register exercise.
“Kaagaz Nahi Dikhayenge Hum!!” the tweet said tauntingly. “Keep the documents safe, you will need to show them again during NPR exercise.”
The Hindi portion of the tweet is a reference to a popular slogan of defiance raised by those opposed to the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Population Register, which many believe will lead up to the implementation of a nationwide National Register of Citizens.
Critics believe that the Citizenship Amendment Act, when implemented in tandem with the National Register of Citizens, may put millions of genuine Muslim residents at risk of persecution. Although the centre now claims that there is no immediate plan to implement the national register on a countrywide scale, critics have cited speeches made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the Lok Sabha elections to claim that such an exercise may actually be in the offing.
Several states, including West Bengal and Kerala, have already stalled the National Population Register process in their territories in protest against the new methodology adopted by the central government. The ruling party, however, insists that the additional responses and documents in question have to be provided only on a voluntary basis.
“No document is to be collected during the updation of NPR,” Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had said recently.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the National Population Register, which is otherwise a “normal administrative process”, is being demonised for vote bank politics. “Those who carried out the NPR are now spreading misinformation. Biometric data was collected in 2010, we came in 2014…We have all the records. Why are you lying? Why are you fooling people,” he remarked in the Rajya Sabha recently.
Critics, however, are far from convinced. The slogan “Kagaz Nahi Dikhayenge”, which translates to “we will not show our documents”, comes from a poem written by comedian-lyricist Varun Grover that has found wide circulation on the Internet ever since protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens first broke out. The poem, which condemns police action against protesters across the country, has been translated into Bengali to “Kagaz Dekhabo Na” too.
The NPR exercise will be carried out across the country along with the house listing phase of the Census 2021 from April 1 to September 30, 2020.

Capital infusion will substantially improve bank’s risk bearing capacity: Chibber

J&K Bank is set to receive Rs 500 Cr capital infusion from government of Jammu and Kashmir to meet the Basel-III requirements.
The funds, as per the Finance Department of the government, will be released over the period of next two months of the current financial year (CFY) 2019-20, as the government has already set aside the amount meant for equity infusion or recapitalization of the bank.
Consequently, the Board of Directors of the bank in a meeting held on February 7 considered raising of capital by the bank by way of preferential issue of specified securities to the government of Jammu & Kashmir- the promoter and majority shareholder of the bank.
Expressing his gratitude to the government, especially Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu, for timely infusion of the capital, the bank’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Rajesh Kumar Chhibber said besides improving the bank’s capital adequacy under the Basel-III norms, the capital infusion would substantially improve its risk bearing capacity.
He said the much needed infusion shall also help the bank in revising its lending policies particularly towards the retail segment like housing, education, government sponsored schemes, agriculture etc.
Acknowledging the government’s support, Chibber said as the promoter and majority stakeholder of J&K Bank, the government has remained ever committed in its support towards the bank and the capital infusion is another glaring example of the same.
The infusion, he said, will translate into growth and expansion and at the same time boost the confidence of all other stakeholders in the bank.
