  • Carve out separate Union territory along Jhelum river for Kashmiri Pandits: Panun Kashmir to Centre

Srinagar: Panun Kashmir an organisation representing the Kashmiri Pandits has said that they will not return to the Valley till the Centre carves out a separate centrally-administered Union territory for their rehabilitation.

The body also demanded abrogation of articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution, claiming that these had led to displacement of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley.

Referring to a reported meeting between moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and a group of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, who also met several BJP leaders over the past two weeks, Panun Kashmir chairman Ajay Chrungoo dismissed the move as a “ploy” by the Centre to compromise with the pro-freedom leaders.

Kashmiri Pandits will not return to the Valley till the Centre carves out a centrally-administered Union territory along the Jhelum river for the community, he told reporters.

  • At Kashmir hospitals patients not treated with dignity, respect

Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Sunday said patients at Kashmir hospitals are not treated with dignity and respect.
“Patients feel alienated by the non-committal attitude and professional distance they encounter at hospitals in Kashmir,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.
“Failure to take into account patients’ concerns and expectations, lack of warmth and friendliness on part of doctors leave patients dissatisfied,” he said.
“Patients recover their health simply through their contentment with the goodness of a physician,” he added.
“Kind words, compassion and empathy have equal hand in cure as much as medical competence does. But this need is often not met,” Dr Nisar said.
He said patients are not treated with courtesy and doctors do not spend time in talking, listening and more importantly hearing them.
Dr Nisar said there are reported observations of doctors avoiding discussion on emotional and social impact of patients’ problems which adversely affects their recovery.
“You might have healed their physical illness, but hurt in their feelings by the interpersonal treatment they receive, Dr Nisar said adding that any treatment can be undone in just a few moments by the physician’s wrong attitude.”
He said in the past, hospitals were looked as most trusted friends, but there has been a steep decline in positive feelings about hospitals.
“Long wait times for consultations and long delays in procedures are provoking and frustrating for patients. They are left uncared for most of the time and attendants are forced to take care of their patients which otherwise is the duty of hospital staff,” Dr Nisar said.
He said hospital environment is uncomfortable and distressing which is pushing patients in despair.
“Uncleanliness, poor food and noisy environment are adding to the woes of patients. There is no privacy in wards which makes patients uncomfortable and communication difficult between patients and doctors,” said Dr Nisar.

  • ‘No proposal before RBI regarding merger of J&K Bank’

Srinagar, Jul 26: Amid unconfirmed reports about the merger of Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd with some other nationalised or private bank, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sources Friday clarified that there was no such proposal before it. “There has been no initiative from the RBI regarding merger of the J&K Bank. Some TV channel ran this story which is absolutely baseless,” they told KNS. “If there is something from the state government regarding the merger that is separate. But RBI has neither issued any notification nor is privy to any such decision. There is a state level meeting of the J&K Bank scheduled on August 10 and there is nothing much beyond that,” sources said and added no such proposal has been moved by the state government as well as of now. On Wednesday some news channels ran a story claiming that J&K Bank faces the prospect of a merger with a public sector bank, most likely the State Bank of India. The J&K Bank has remained in news ever since its chairman Parvaiz Ahmad was sacked by the governor in early June following which state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths conducted raids on the Corporate Office of the Bank on TRC Road here. Executive Director of the Bank RK Chhiber was named as its interim chairman in place of Ahmad, who was appointed in October 2016 as the chairman of J&K Bank. The governor administration also approved a proposal that provisions of the J&K Right to Information Act, 2009, shall be applicable to the Bank just like other state-owned undertakings. It also now follows guidelines of the Central Vigilance Commission. (KNS)
