Srinagar March 16: Food Safety Department Tuesday sealed a butcher’s shop for selling dressed chess in violation of rules at Elahibagh Buchpora.
An official told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) that it was brought into the notice of Assistant Commissioner Food Safety (intelligence cum legal cell) Hilal Ahmad Mir that some unscrupulous elements were taking advantage of shortage of mutton supply, import dressed meat clandestinely to valley in contravention of rules and regulations of food safety and standards act.
“Taking serious note of same, a butcher shop at Elahibagh Buchpora has been sealed and drive to curb this illegal practice shall continue in coming days,” the official said.
Commissioner Food Safety and Drugs Administration has warned these persons to desist from importing such food articles without following rules and regulations otherwise stern action shall be initiated against them which shall include seizure of whole imported stock. (KINS)

J&K ramping up capacity to administer 3 lakh COVID vaccine doses per day; store 50 lakh in cold chain
Approx. 4.40 lakh people vaccinated so far with no reported case of extreme adversity
JAMMU, March 18: The Chief Secretary, B V R Subrahmanyam today chaired the 3rd meeting of the UT Steering Committee to review the progress of COVID-19 vaccination drives that were rolled out in January 2021.Administrative Secretaries of the departments of Health & Medical Education, Home, Housing & Urban Development, Information, Youth Services & Sports, School Education, Tribal Affairs, besides Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Director, SKIMS, and Principal GMC Jammu participated in the meeting.It was informed that so far 77% of healthcare workers, 78% of front line workers, and 12.28% of elderlies and co-morbid patients, totalling 4,39,910 people have been vaccinated in Jammu and Kashmir with no reported case of extreme adversity. And arrangements have also been put in place for on-spot registration and administration of vaccination to the remaining health care workers and frontline workers, yet to be vaccinated.Moreover, COVID Vaccination Centres (CVCs) in Jammu and Kashmir are also being gradually enhanced to 3034 including 34 private centres. All the CVCs will be connected through 873 cold chain points with a total vaccine storage capacity of more than 50 lakh doses and vaccination capacity of 3 lakh doses per day. The vaccines are being administered free of cost at all government CVCs and at private centres against the payment of Rs. 250 per dose.At the vaccination centres, vaccination slots are being proportioned to accommodate reserved appointments of COWIN registered beneficiaries, 2nd dose beneficiaries and open/walk-in beneficiaries on a day-to-day basis.To effectively deliver the vaccines at the grass-root level, Chief Secretary impressed upon greater coordination between the frontline workers of various departments including health, social welfare, school education, rural development, and housing and urban development.The Chief Secretary also emphasized the need of evolving a multi-sectoral response to the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine by involving NGOs, NCC, and other volunteers, besides maintaining open and transparent communication through a proactive IEC strategy to curb misinformation and rumors.He also urged people to participate in the vaccination drives and get vaccinated on priority to keep themselves and their families safe from the infection. Govt Warns Mutton Dealers With FIR, Sealing Shops If New Rates, Quality Violated
Srinagar, Mar 18: The government on Thursday asked the retail mutton dealers in Kashmir Valley to strictly adhere to the newly fixed rates and warned them of strict action including lodging of FIR and sealing of shops for any violations including less weight and poor quality, etc.
As per an order issued by Director Food Civil Supplies and CA Department, Bashir Ahmad Khan, the newly fixed rates per kilogram of dressed mutton—535 without offal and Rs 490 with 100g offal—were issued following representation by wholesale and retail Mutton dealers and in view of reports submitted by two official teams.
He said the issue of revision of Mutton rates was discussed by the Chairman (Rate Fixation Committee) i.e. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir with other members and stakeholders on 27 February 2021 but remain inconclusive.
“The issue was discussed by the Chairman with stakeholders again on 17March 2021 and in view of separate Affidavits furnished by wholesale/retail mutton dealers to abide by the Government instructions/rate list, the new rate was decided and accordingly notified today,” reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS.
The Director said that all the wholesale mutton dealers who are importing the livestock from outside state are hereby directed to complete the formalities regarding their wholesale mutton licenses within 15 (fifteen) days positively from today “failing which action in view of SRO – 176 dated 29-06-20 09 shall be invoked and livestock imported illegally shall be confiscated and auctioned thereof.”
“Besides, he said, the retail mutton dealers are directed to display the rate lists in their shops and strictly adhere to the rate list issued by the Government and in case anybody resorts to violation of rate list, other violations including less weight, poor quality, etc. shall be dealt strictly as per law which includes lodging of FIR and sealing of their shops as and when required,” he added. GoI to continue discussion with China to resolve LAC issues: MHA

Srinagar, Mar 17: Government of India (GoI) Wednesday reiterated that it will continue the discussion with the Chinese side to resolve the remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh to achieve the objective of disengagement from all the friction points and restore peace.
In a written reply to a query in Lok Sabha, the MoS Home, GK Reddy as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that India’s engagement with China is complex.
“The two sides agree that the future direction of India China relations should be built upon respecting each other’s sensitivities, concerns and aspirations. The two sides have also agreed to manage their differences and not allow differences on any issue to become disputes,” Reddy said in his reply.
Reddy said that the two sides agree that the pending final settlement of the boundary question, maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the border areas is an essential basis for the overall development of the bilateral relationship.
“Since April/May 2020 the Chinese side undertook several attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the western sector,” he said.
The reply also reads that the two sides have maintained communication through both diplomatic and military channels to ensure complete disengagement from all friction points and full restoration of peace and tranquillity in the India-China border areas.
Maintaining that the two sides have mutually decided to disengage, the Minister said that the two sides were able to reach an agreement on disengagement in the North and South Bank of the Pangong Lake, which has been completed.
“There are however still some outstanding issues with regard to deployment and patrolling at some other points along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh”, the Minister said.
“Government will continue discussions with the Chinese side to resolve the remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh and achieve the objective of disengagement from all friction points and restoration of peace and tranquillity in the India-China border areas at an early date,” the MoS said in a written reply—(KNO)

All units briefed about threat posed by sticky bombs during Amarnath Yatra: IG CRPF
Jammu, Mar 15: Inspector General (IG) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Jammu P S Ranpise Monday said that all units have been briefed about the threat posed by sticky bombs during the Amarnath Yatra.
Talking with reporters after inaugurating a free medical camp organised by the 16th Battalion in Sidhra, Ranpise said all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure successful Amarnath Yatra this year which is likely to witness heavy rush.
“We are already alert and are ready to face any challenges. All units have been briefed about the threat posed by sticky bombs and all arrangements are being made to make Yatra successful this year as it is likely to witness a heavy rush of pilgrims,” he said.
Ranpise said that security arrangements regarding Amarnath Yatra have been discussed with the police administration.
“The CRPF is trying its best to meet all the arrangements,” he said.
Ranpise said that a large number of forces were already deployed on the Jammu and Kashmir highway. “At the same time, using technology, drones and other modern equipment will also be included in the security arrangements, so that no hassle will be encountered during this yatra,” he said. “CPRPF personnel would also be given training on Amarnath Yatra.”
According to the Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board, the Amarnath Yatra will continue from June 28 to August 22.
The annual Amarnath Yatra was cancelled last year due to the Code-19 epidemic and a live telecast were arranged to provide devotees with a virtual view. Earlier, the administration had decided to hold the yatra from July 21 to August 3, but the decision was later withdrawn.

India administers nearly three crore vaccination doses so far, says Health Ministry
Srinagar, Mar 15 : The Union Health Ministry Monday said that India has administered nearly three crore vaccination doses so far.
Union Health Ministry said that more than one lakh 40 thousand people have been inoculated with Covid-19 doses in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, according to the officials the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate reached 96.68 per cent with the total recovery of more than 17 thousand patients in the last 24 hours.
The Ministry said that more than one crore ten lakh patients have already been recovered from this disease.
“Presently, the total number of active cases in the country is over two lakh 19 thousand which comprises only 1.93 per cent of the total positive cases”.
“A total number of 26 thousand 291 new cases have been reported in the country in the past 24 hours taking the cumulative positive cases to over one crore 13 lakh. The Health Ministry said 118 deaths have been reported during the last 24 hour taking the toll to over one lakh 58 thousand across the country”.
“The Indian Council of Medical Research said that various laboratories have conducted more than seven lakh three thousand tests of coronavirus samples during the last 24 hours and more than 22 crore 74 lakh tests have been done in the country so far,” it said.(KINS) -
Bird Flu Scare: Scores of Crows Found Dead in Kupwara Village; Carcasses of Several Foxes Also Spotted
Srinagar, Mar 15: Amid bird flu scare, scores of crows were found dead besides carcasses of few foxes also spotted in Lolab area in north-Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Reports reaching Global News Service (GNS) said that panic triggered among local residents after dozens of crows were found dead at Gundmacher area in Lolab early this morning. However what puzzled the locals is that carcasses of around three foxes were also spotted at several places in the vicinity.
“The authorities have been intimated about the issue and we expect a quick follow-up in the matter”, a senior citizen of the area said adding that “Nonetheless the area has been witnessing a spike in the mortality rate of poultry birds even.”
Meanwhile when contacted SDM Lolab, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat told GNS that a team will be shortly sent to the area to take the samples of affected fauna, as to ascertain the cause of their death. (GNS)

Shabaan moon not sighted; first Shabaan on Tuesday
The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee of Pakistan announced today (Sunday) that the moon of Shabaan 1442 AH has not been sighted and the month will commence on Tuesday, the 16th March.
This announcement was made by the committee after a meeting held in Islamabad today with Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad in chair.
