    Srinagar, Aug 13: The administration of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory has sacked four employees on charges of being involved in anti-national activities.

    Sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that J&K Government has terminated four employees under Article 311 of the Constitution of India for their involvement in anti-national activities.

    According to sources, the activities these employees had come to the adverse notice of law enforcement and intelligence agencies, as they have been found involved in activities prejudicial to the interests of the security of the State.

    Those sacked are Dr. Muheet Ahmad Bhat( scientist-D in post-graduate Department of Computer Science, University of Kashmir), Majid Hussain Qadri, (Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, University of Kashmir), Syed Abdul Mueed, (Manager IT, JKEDI) and Assabah-ul-Arjamand Khan, (Publicity, Directorate of Rural Development, Kashmir)

    Syed Abdul Mueed is son of United Jehad Council chief Syed Saluhuddin while Assabah-Ul- Arjamand Khan is wife of JKLF leader and former militant commander Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karate. Assabh was a KAS officer—(KNO)

  • Shah Faesal posted as Deputy Secretary Tourism

    Srinagar: The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has reinstated Jammu and Kashmir’s IAS officer Shah Faesal and posted him as Deputy Secretary in the Union Ministry for Tourism.

    Shah Faesal, a 2010 batch IAS topper of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir cadre, now AGMUT, had resigned from the Government services in January 2019 and launched his own political party Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM).

    However, he said goodbye to politics in August 2020.

  • Pregnant Woman Dies After Found ‘Hanging from Ceiling Fan’ in Shopian Village

    Srinagar, Aug 12: A 28-year-old woman died after she was allegedly found hanging from a ceiling fan in Zainapora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

    Reports reaching GNS said the woman (name withheld) was at her parental house at Safanagri village, where she was found hanging from the ceiling fan this evening. The woman, pregnant for several months now, was removed to a health facility in critical conditions where she died shortly after.

    Confirming it, a police official told GNS that cognizance has been taken into the matter for due investigations. (GNS)

  • Cyber Police Lodges Case Against Social-media Users for ‘Live Transmission of Explicit Content’

    Srinagar: Cyber Police Kashmir has registered a case against few unascertained ‘Instagram’ handles for alleged transmission of explicit content.

    “After taking cognisance of live transmission of explicit content by some unknown Social Media (Instagram) users, Cyber Police Kashmir has registered a case FIR No. 43/2022 U/S 67, 67A IT Act, 294 IPC and investigation set into motion”, reads a tweet by Cyber Police Kashmir, as per GNS.

    Pertinently, the action has been taken after concerns were expressed by netizens over transmission of explicit content over Instagram – a photo and video sharing social networking service – by few handles. Netizens have been decrying that several users have been sharing offensive and abusive content. (GNS)

  • Instagram accounts of ‘girls’ posting adult content on social media, Cyber police Kashmir takes cognizance

    Srinagar, Aug 12: Jammu and Kashmir cyber police wing in Srinagar have taken cognizance after a few Instagram accounts were posting adult content and live streaming from the last few days.

    Reports reaching Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) that Cyber police Kashmir has taken a legal action against some alleged Kashmiri girls Instagram accounts that were posting adult content in Kashmiri language and live streaming from the last few days.

    Posting adult content on social media is a cognizable offense and it violates the social media law, a police officer told KDC and said immediate action under rules has been initiated against the handlers involved in this crime.

    We have set the investigation into motion, the officer said adding that we will first check the content and will verify it and accordingly will proceed in the investigation with relevant sections of law. (KDC)

  • Teenage non-local labourer shot dead in Bandipora village

    Bandipora, Aug 12: A 19-year-old non-local labourer has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Sadunara village of Hajin in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, officials said here.

    An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that unknown gunmen fired upon the non-local labourer at around 1 am in the night.

    He said that the labourer suffered critical injuries and soon after the incident he was shifted to a nearby hospital, where from he was referred to JVC Bemina.

    The official said that he succumbed to his injuries at JVC Bemina, however, the body has been brought to CHC Sumbal now.

    The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Amrej (19) of Besarh village of Bihar and was presently putting up at a rented accommodation in Sadunara village—(KNO)

  • Fidayeen attack on army camp in J&K’s Rajouri: Four soldiers; two suicide attackers killed

    Army Major among two soldiers injured; identification of slain being ascertained, seem to be foreigners; reports of steel coated bullets used by attackers being investigated: Police

    Rajouri, Aug 11: Four soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and two fidayeen were killed during an encounter at the army camp Pargal in Darhal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, police said Thursday.

    Defence officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), alert troops foiled a major fidayeen attack on the army camp at Pargal as the attackers were intercepted right at the fence of the camp.

    “Two fidayeen attacked army camp at Pargal in upper reaches of Darhal amid heavy firing on sentry posts in the wee hours,” the officials said. “The attackers managed to sneak inside the camp and were on way towards army barracks when a quick reaction team of army from inside the camp responded to the situation and engaged both the militants outside the army barracks preventing their entry inside.”

    The officials said that the army troops managed to engage the attackers outside barracks while intense gunfight between both the sides lasted for over three hours during which both the militants were gunned down.

    “During the exchange of firing, six army personnel including one Major and one JCO received injuries. The JCO identified as Subedar Rajendra Prasad, Rifleman Lakshmanan D and Rifleman Manoj Kumar succumbed to their injuries whereas injured army Major and two other personnel were removed from the site and shifted to Rajouri army hospital where they are under treatment,” the defence officials said.

    Army in an official statement to KNO said that this was a “suicidal strike” on army camp which was foiled due to alertness of troops.

    “In the early morning hours, alert sentries of Indian Army post at Parghal in Rajouri detected suspicious persons approaching their post taking advantage of the inclement whether and dense foliage,” the statement said, adding that the sentries challenged the two militants who lobbed grenades while attempting to gain entry inside the post. However, alert troops cordoned the area and engaged then in a fire fight thereby pinning them.

    “In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed whereas six soldiers of Indian Army were injured out of which three “brave hearts succumbed.”

    Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri Mohammad Aslam while addressing media at the site of encounter said that it was a suicide strike on army camp but alert troops foiled the attack and prevented the major loss.

    “The exchange of gun fire between Army men and militants lasted for hours in which both the fidayeen militants were killed while three soldiers also attained martyrdom while three others are injured,” he said. “Searches in the area are still going on and high alert of security is being maintained.” Meanwhile, defence officials said fourth soldiers identified as Rifleman Nishant Malik, succumbed in the evening taking the number of slain soldiers in Rajouri attack to four.

    In the meanwhile, as some media reports suggested that the slain militants in Rajouri attack used armour-piercing steel bullets, police said that it was investigating the nature of bullets used by the militants. Pertinently, so far armour-piercing steel bullets have been used by Jaish-e-Muhammad fidayeen in Kashmir in many encounters especially the one that took place in Lethpora area of Pulwama on December 31, 2017—(KNO)

  • Three soldiers,Two militants killed in Pre-Dawn attack in Rajouri

    Jammu, Aug 11: Three soldiers and two militants, suspected to be fidayeen, were killed and two soldiers including a Major were injured in a gunfight in Darhal area of Rajouri on Thursday, officials said.

    The gunfight happened in Pargal area early this morning, defence ministry spokesman based in Jammu said.

    “2 (militants) trying to sneak into a post in the dark at Pargal Rajouri were detected and engaged by alert troops. The (militants) have been neutralised,” he said in a statement to GNS.

    5 soldiers also suffered injuries and are being treated, he added.

    Sources told GNS that one among the soldiers is a Major. Three soldiers among the injured succumbed to wounds, they said. (GNS)

  • Personal Information of over 1 million students, staff allegedly on sale for just 250 dollars

    Alleged breach being analyzed, preliminary analysis state data is unmodified: KU

    Srinagar, Aug 10: At University of Kashmir (KU), there has been alleged data breach of its over one million student’s and staffers wherein the threat actor has put their information on sale for just 250 dollars.

    According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the threat actor has allegedly shared the proof of the breach by sharing a database index.

    Reportedly, the threat actor had claimed to have personal information of students and the staff of the varsity.

    The information which the threat actor claimed to have includes the registration number, emails of the students and staff, their phone contact numbers and address.

    The threat actor allegedly even claims to have the passwords of the employee.

    Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Kashmir University (KU) in a statement has said that the alleged breach was being analyzed and as per the preliminary analysis it has been found that the data is unmodified.

    “Any breach on data read which is already accessible in public domain is being analyzed in-depth and depending upon the analysis, the university will take further course of action and take an appropriate legal recourse accordingly, it reads—(KNO)
