  • Police books hatemonger under PSA in Budgam

    June 04: Acting tough against the anti-social elements, Police in Budgam booked a hatemonger under Public Safety Act for spreading hate and justifying killing of a lady artiste by uploading a video on social media.

    A hate-monger identified as Mohammad Irfan Bhat son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat resident of Takiya Wagoora Kreeri Baramulla has been booked under PSA by Budgam Police for recording and uploading a video spreading hate and justifying the killing of an artiste Amreen Bhat who was shot dead by terrorists in Hashroo Chadoora on 25/05/2022.

    The act of uploading such hateful video, justifying killing of artiste Ambreen Bhat on YouTube channel has not only caused alarm and fear amongst the class of people performing art, singing, dancing etc. but also the families associated with them. Moreover, this act also amounts to supporting terrorist act, besides such videos have tendency to make more people vulnerable to such attacks.

    Accordingly, the person involved in spreading hate and venom on the social media sites has been detained and lodged in Kot Balwal Jail Jammu.

    Police once again advises the social media users not to get involved in such filthy acts and avoid falling prey to such anti-social and anti-national agenda. Community members are requested to share any such information with Police so that legal action under law shall be taken against such anti-social/anti-national elements.

  • Take our lands but give protection to minorities in Kashmir, says Maulana Fayaz Amjadi

    Anantnag, June 04: Pitching strongly for the protection of minorities in Kashmir which has witnessed targeted killings, a leading cleric said during Friday congregational prayers in Anantnag that Islam does not give permission for jihad to commit atrocities on the minority community, ANI reported.

    The cleric, Maulana Fayaz Amjadi, was addressing a congregation in Jamia Masjid Anantnag. His exhortation for the protection of minority community was strongly supported by the locals present in the mosque.

    According to a video of the address, he said they are willing to give their lands but minorities in Jammu and Kashmir should be given protection.

    Maulana Fayaz Amjadi said if any Muslim is committing atrocities or killing against minorities thinking it is jihad, “we condemn it”.

    “If any Muslim is doing this thinking it is jihad, we condemn this jihad. Islam has not given permission for jihad to commit atrocities on minority or any other person or to kill the person,” he said as per ANI.

    Maulana Fayaz Amjadi said the atmosphere should not be spoilt in Kashmir.

    “The minorities should be taken care of. We urge the administration, we urge the government we are with the minority here. We condemn those attacking minorities. We request that minorities are given protection in Kashmir. You need our lands take them, but provide security to minorities. As you provide security to minorities here, do the same to us in the entire country,” he added. A clip of the video was also posted on social media.

    There have been targeted killings of innocent civilians in Kashmir and the victims include members of the Kashmir Pandit community, civilians and people in government.

    Last month, two civilians – including Kashmiri Pandit employee Rahul Bhat — and three off-duty policemen were killed in Kashmir by militants. In October last year, prominent chemist M L Bindroo was killed in his shop.

    The minority community members have been protesting against targeted killings and some of them have spoken about migrating out of Valley.

    A bank manager, identified as Vijay Kumar, was shot dead outside his office by militants in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

    Earlier this week 36-year-old Hindu woman teacher Rajni Bala, hailing from Jammu’s Samba district, was shot dead by militants at a government school in Gopalpora, Kulgam.

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and other top officials on security in Jammu and Kashmir.

    National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh also participated in the meeting

  • Anantnag encounter: Hizb commander killed, 03 Soldiers, civilian injured

    Anantnag, Jun 04: Hizb commander has been killed in an ongoing gunfight that broke out between militants and government forces at Gawas village of Karan Verinag area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Saturday.

    An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving the information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area.

    He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.

    He said during exchange of fire, one militant has been killed bedsides that three soldiers and one civilian was injured initial exchange of fire while as operation is underway in the area.

    He identified slain militant as Nisar Khanday a commander of Hizb who was active for past few years while adding that condition of injured soldiers and civilian is stable at 92 base hospital Srinagar.

  • J-K woman held for posting friend’s nudes on social media

    Jammu, Jun 3: A woman was arrested by the Cyber Cell here on Friday allegedly for sharing nude pictures and videos of her female friend on social media, police said.

    The accused had captured the pictures and videos of the victim, a resident of Reasi district, without her knowledge during the COVID lockdown, a police spokesperson said.

    The victim recently lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Jammu and a case was registered under relevant sections.

    After investigation, the police arrested the accused, a resident of Janipur locality of Jammu, from her relative’s house in Chinore in the outskirts of Jammu, he said.

    Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the accused did so due to some personal grudge. She first shared the content with a few people, including some close relatives of the complainant in Reasi, and later posted them on social media several times using fake accounts, the spokesperson said.

    “Police are still trying to identify other people based in Ransoo and other areas who may have either shared or kept those videos or photographs in their mobile phones and other devices,” he said.–(PTI)

  • Newborn Found Dead in DH Handwara Premises

    Handwara, Jun 3: A newborn was found dead in the premises of District Hospital Handwara this afternoon.

    Reports reaching GNS said some people spotted the baby lying in the premises and informed the hospital authorities about it. A medical team soon after reached the spot and took the body into its possession.

    Riled up over the incident, a large number of people, according to whom the infant’s body had several dog bite marks, assembled near the health facility and demanded a thorough investigation to bring the culprits involved to justice.

    IGP Kashmir visits Kulgam, chairs security review meet; directs officers to identify, kill attacker involved in Kumar’s killing; orders joint day, night patrolling, surprise area domination; CCTV footage of attack goes viral; Omar, Mehbooba, Sajad, others condemn killing

    Kulgam, Jun 02: A Bank Manager of Elaqahi Dehati Bank, Branch Kulgam, was shot dead in Southern district of Kashmir on Thursday.

    An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a Bank manager of Elaqahi Dehati Bank was fired upon by militants when he was on duty at Arreh Mohanpora Branch in Kulgam.

    The injured identified as Vijay Kumar of Rajasthan was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment.

    An official from district hospital Kulgam said that he was brought dead to the hospital. Officials told KNO that the slain Bank manager was married in February this year and was staying with his wife. The killing of Bank manager came a few days after militants shot dead a female government teacher Rajni Bala outside the school in Gopalpora, Kulgam.

    Interestingly, the CCTV footage where in a shooter shooting at the Bank manager has gone viral on the social media. A police spokesman said that militants shot dead a Government Bank Employee in a gruesome “terror attack in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.”

    Senior police officers along with reinforcement reached at the crime spot. “Officers attending the crime spot learnt that, at about 1100 am, militants had indiscriminately fired upon Manager of Ellaquai Dehati Bank identified as Vijay Kumar son of Om Prakash, resident of Hanumangarh Rajasthan, at Areh Mohanpora in Kulgam District. In this incident, he had received critical gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment of his injuries however, he succumbed to his injuries,” the spokesman said.

    He said that the Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” the spokesman said.

    He said that IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar along with DIG SKR Anantnag and DIG CRPF visited Kulgam district where he held meeting with Police and security forces officers. “The IGP Kashmir reviewed security scenario and instructed field officers to conduct surprise joint area domination in the day and night, to identify militant involved in today’s terror crime and neutralise him at the earliest,” the statement said, adding that “the IGP also directed to identify the militant associates who have been harbouring militants and arrest them on priority basis.”

    Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and vice president NC Omar Abdullah while condemning the act said that condoling a death are becoming a mind numbingly regular thing.

    “So very sorry to hear about the targeted killing of Vijay Kumar. Tweeting to condemn an attack & condole a death are becoming a mind-numbingly regular thing. It’s heart-breaking to see families destroyed like this.” tweeted Omar.

    Former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti also condemned killing.

    “Condemn yet another targeted killing today of Vijay Kumar, a bank manager working in Kulgam. Heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace,” tweeted Mehbooba Mufti.

    “Yet again extremely sad news coming in. An innocent civilian working as a manager in a bank in Kulgam has been shot dead. Am at a loss of words to express my condemnation for such heinous acts. May the family have the courage to bear this loss. May the deceased rest in peace,” JKPC President Sajad Lone tweeted.

    “It’s distressing to learn about the killing of a bank manager in Kulgam. Indeed a very sad situation where innocent civilians are being targeted. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased and I pray for immense strength for the bereaved family to bear this loss.” Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari tweeted.

    Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday said that NDA Government has failed to restore peace in Kashmir. He while condemning the attack on Rajasthan resident in Kulgam said that government of India must ensure the safety of citizens in Kashmir.

    “The militant killing of bank manager Vijay Kumar, a resident of Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, working in Kulgam, J&K is highly condemnable. NDA Govt has failed to restore peace in Kashmir. Central Govt should ensure the safety of citizens in Kashmir,” tweeted Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot—(KNO)

  • Chadoora Attack: One Among 2 Non-Locals Dies

    Srinagar, June 2: One among the two non-locals who were fired upon by militants on Thursday late evening in central Kashmir’s Budgam district succumbed to the injuries at a hospital here.

    Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh confirmed to GNS that one among the non-locals succumbed to the injuries. Sources identified the deceased as Dilkhush of Bihar, who was working as a labourer at Brick Kiln.

    Earlier a senior Police officer told GNS that the two non-local labourers were fired upon by militants in Magraypora area of the district.

    One had bullet wound in hand and other received firearm injury in neck area. Both were immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, the officer said.

    Soon after the attack whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers. More details will follow soon. (GNS)

  • Srinagar Police arrests one accused who attempted to murder a mouzin in Nawakadal area

    Srinagar: Today, a complaint was received in Safakadal PS that a person, Feroz Khan, who also happens to be Muazin (person who summons people for prayers) of a mosque, was attacked with an iron rod by some unidentified person. The victim sustained injuries in his head and received eight stitches.

    Acting swiftly, police registered case as FIR no 101/2022 under sections 307, 341 of IPC in Police Station Safakadal.

    During the investigation one accused was identified and arrested within an hour. The accused was later identified as Mohammad Shafi Seeru and he has prima facie been found to be pursuing some old rivalry against the victim.

  • Target Killings in Kashmir: Ajit Doval, RAW Chief met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi

    Srinagar 02 June: After an unabated target killings in Kashmir valley with no let-up in the string of attacks, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Home Minister Amit Shah in north block in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.

    The meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah was attended by NSA Ajit Doval, RAW Chief Samant Goel and other officials of the MHA.   

    Reliable sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that slew of measures have been crystalized, after consulting with top brass officers of security agencies, which would be conveyed forth to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha besides other top officials from J&K Administration.

    The meeting between the Home Minister, Ajit Doval and Samant Goel went for more than an hour and was convened after militants killed a Bank Manager Vijay Kumar of Rajasthan in Kulgam this morning. The incident took place just two days after a school teacher from Samba was killed in the Gopalpora area of Kulgam district.

    Some directions are likely to be passed by this evening to the UT Administration for its forthwith implementation to stem the targeted killings in the valley, sources informed.  

    Pertinently, Home Minister Amit Shah would chair the second meeting tomorrow after spree of killings in Kashmir, the second such exercise in less than a fortnight. (KDC)
