  • Police book Shopian duo for alleged involvement in militancy

    Shopian: Police have booked two youth from South Kashmir’s Shopian district in a militancy related case.

    Sources told KNT that two youth Zahoor Ahmad Koka of Mailhora, and Uzair Ahmad of Wandina Zainpora were apprehended by Forces for allegedly carrying weapons.

    A police official said that a specific information was received by police about the movement of two militant sympathizers of Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit planning to attack government forces.

    “A naka was immediately established near Wachi petrol pump, while observing naka two suspects tried to flee from spot but deployed forces personnel belonging to soldiers from 55RR and CRPF 178 Battalion and Police overpowered both the suspects and were detained.”

    During frisking a pistol with magazine and 8 live rounds and two grenades were recovered from their possession.

    A formal case vide FIR number 27/2020 under section 18, 20, 23, 38, 39 ULAP Act, 7/25 IA Act was registered against them. (KNT)

  • 10 year old girl among 7 tests positive in Bandipora

    Bandipora, April 20: A 10 year old girl have been tested positive for COVID-19 among 7 in north Kashmir’s Bandipora taking the toll in the district to 91.

    Official sources told news agency KINS that today seven more cases from Bandipora District tested positive. “All are from Gund-Jehangeer village. 10 year old girl also tested positive among them. We have forwarded more samples for the testing however the reports are yet to come” he said.

    Pertinently, on late Sunday three fresh cases were tested positive in Bandipora district among one was police cop with physical contact history. (KINS)
  • WHO-recommended disinfectants effective against novel coronavirus: Study

    Alcohol-based hand disinfectants recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) are effective against the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19, according to a study.

    The formulations can be prepared quickly and easily by pharmacies and help alleviate the current shortage of disinfectants, said researchers from Ruhr-Universitat Bochum (RUB) in Germany.

  • Cyber Police Books Female photojournalist for her Facebook posts

    Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police have booked a female freelance photojournalist under unlawful activities (Prevention) Act for uploading anti-national posts with criminal intention to induce the young and to disturb public order.

    “Yes, she has been booked for her Facebook posts that glorify militants. Her posts post threat to law and order and spread misinformation,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Cyber Cell Kashmir, Tahir Ashraf told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

    Police sources said that a case under FIR number 10/2020 under section 13 UA(P) act and 505-IPC stands registered with the Cyber Cell of police, Kashmir.

    Under IPC 505, a person can be booked for two years of rigorous imprisonment—(KNO)

  • Policeman posted in Sgr tests positive for Covid-19

    Contact tracing on, 13 family members of cop put under quarantine


    Srinagar: A policeman posted in Srinagar has tested positive for novel coronavirus becoming the first cop to test positive after which his family members were shifted for quarantine. The police is now tracing all the contacts of the cop.

    A senior police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a police man posted with Indian Reserve Police (IRP) battalion in Srinagar belonging to Baramulla has tested positive for Coronavirus.

    Top officials told KNO that the policeman who tested positive was posted in Srinagar, adding that after his results, all the official contacts are being traced for sampling and quarantine. The officials also said that at least 13 members of his family were shifted for quarantine in Baramulla.

    The officials further said that all the protocols and medical guidelines are being followed to track the on duty and home contacts, all the close contacts will be shifted for quarantine—(KNO)

  • Minor tests positive in Uri, toll 10

    Baramulla April 20: A 06 year old child tested positive for COVID-19 in north Kashmir’s Uri town Monday talking the toll to 10 in the town.

    Block Medical Officer Dr Ramzan confirmed to News Agency KINS that minor had came in close contact with his uncle who last week was diagnosed positive. The doctor said they are monitoring to track down the physical contacts of the victim.((KINS)

  • Policeman shot dead in Hiller Anantnag

    Srinagar, April 19: A policeman was killed after fired upon by suspected militants at his residence in Hiller Shahabad area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.

    A police officer told GNS that the militants opened fire upon the policeman namely Manzoor Ahmad Dar at Hiller village at around 9:35 pm. The officer also confirmed that the policeman was at home when the attack took place.

    Dar, a Selection Grade Constable and working as Munshi at Police Station Larnoo was removed to nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

    He said that a police team has been rushed to the spot and further investigations are underway. (GNS)

  • Cop shot dead in Anantnag

    Anantnag, Apr 19: Suspected militants on Sunday evening shot dead a policeman in Kokernag area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

    Reports reaching news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that a head constable, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Akbar Dar of Hiller Bahai, was at home when gunmen opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured.

    A police officer confirmed the incident and said that the constable was immediately rushed to nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

    Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off to the nab the attackers—(KNO)

  • No relaxation in Kashmir from April 20 : Div Com Kashmir

    Srinagar, April 19: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole today said that all the restrictions that have been put in place will continue from April 20 as well.

    “Relaxations are for carrying out agriculture, horticulture sector activities and related activities like juice manufacturing, rice mill operations or operation of essential commodities,” he told KNS.

    Clarifying that no relaxation has been given in any district of Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner said, “all the 10 districts have one or more positive covid 19 cases. All commercial establishments will remain closed.” (KNS)
