  • Soldier, civilian injured in Pulwama militants attack

    Srinagar: A soldier and a civilian were injured after militants attacked army camp at Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday night.
    Official sources told GNS that suspected militants opened fire upon army’s 50 RR camp at Kakapora.
    While confirming the incident, SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary told GNS that militants fired upon the army camp late this night.
    The fire was retaliated by army triggering off a brief encounter.
    In the incident a soldier was injured and civilian critically injured SSP said.
    He said that a civilian is also said to have received bullet wounds in the cross fire.
    Soon after the incident the government forces launched a hunt to nab the attackers.(GNS)

    Ready to talk to Huriyat, Pakistan, says Home Minister Rajnath Singh

    Srinagar, May 26 : Stating that the Government of India was ready to hold talks with Huriyat, the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Saturday said that if Huriyat leadership is ready to come to the table for talks, the government is ready for it.
    “If Hurriyat is ready to come to the table for talks, we are ready for it. However, as on date, there is no indication from them to this effect,” Rajnthat Singh said.
    He also said that New Delhi is ready to hold talks with Pakistan if it comes forward to hold talks. “To not welcome anyone who wants to talk, is not the right thing,” home minister told in an interview with National TV channel.
    Rajnath Singh claimed that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government wants to revoke FIRs against several first-time stone pelters, especially young Kashmiris, as a method to reach out to people. “Kashmir is ours, Kashmiris are ours,” he said. “Children are misled. We refuse to look at first-time stone pelters as terrorists,” Singh added.
    Union Home Minister Rajnath further said that Pakistan will have to learn lesson. “If you see, there is a consensus emerging in the international community that Pakistan has become a shelter for terrorists,” he said.
    “I believe that Kashmir and Kashmiri are both ours,” he said.
    Asked about the ceasefire announced during Ramzan, the home minister said that since Ramzan is a holy month, the government has decided to temporarily suspend operations. “But this does not mean that security forces will not respond to attacks on them,” he said.
    Home Minister added that coming together of opposition parties may make the challenge “slightly difficult” but the NDA will emerge victorious. “People may have different views on how much we have achieved, but no one doubts the intention of the government,” he said.
    He also said that Border situation is a concern, but the government of India has comprehensive plan for the welfare of border people. “Border people are special for us. We are doing everything for their safety,” he maintained.

  • Grenade attack in Safakadal, four vehicles damaged

    Srinagar: Suspected militants on Thursday evening lobbed a grenade towards a paramilitary CRPF camp at Safakadal area of Srinagar city.

    A police officer told GNS that the militants hurled a grenade on 161 bn CRPF camp at Braripora, Safakdal. However, the device missed the target and exploded outside the sentry post along the roadside.

    In the blast four vehicles including two auto rickshaws, one santro and a school bus suffered damage, the officer said.

    There was no injury to any person in the incident, the officer said.

    He said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this regard and further investigations initiated. (GNS)

  • Woman among 6 civilians injured in Bijbehara blast

    Srinagar, May 23 : At least six civilians were injured after unknown persons hurled a grenade on forces vehicle in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.
    A police officer told GNS that suspected militants lobbed a grenade on forces Gypsy which missed the intended target and exploded on road side.
    In the blast six persons including the woman sustained splinter injuries.
    All the injured have been hospitalised, the officer said.
    He said that a case has been registered and further investigations have been taken up. (GNS)

  • New Delhi to hold dialogue with Hurriyat very soon: Prof Gani Bhat

    Srinagar: Hinting of a possible dialogue with the centre Hurriyat Conference Tuesday said that the day was not far off when government of India will hold dialogue with All Party Hurriyat Conference and Pakistan.
    Addressing people on the death anniversary of former Hurriyat chairman late Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone at Handwara, senior Hurriyat leader and Muslim Conference chairman Professor Abdul Gani Bhat said that dialogue was the only way forward in resolving the Kashmir issue.
    According to the KNS correspondent, Bhat added that only way which leads to the resolution of the Kashmir dispute is sitting across the table. He hinted that government of India would soon initiate dialogue with Pakistan as well as the Hurriyat Conference. While stressing that All Party Hurriyat Conference will talk in clarion terms Prof Bhat said that the conglomerate was a viable platform which does not believe in dividing and whenever it enters into dialogue it will put forth its agenda unambiguously.
    Prof Bhat’s statement has come at a time when government of India has already announced unilateral ceasefire as a part of confidence building measure following which suggestions and demands have pouring in for opening channels of dialogue with Hurriyat Conference and the Pakistan. (KNS)

  • Militants attack police post in Pulwama village

    Rifle snatching attempt foiled ; says police

    Srinagar: Militants on Monday attacked a police post guarding the Sikh minority community at Saidpora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
    Confirming the incident SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary told GNS that a group of Militants attacked the post and the fire was retaliated by the cops.
    The timely retaliatory action by the policemen foiled the rifle snatching bid, SSP said.
    He said that the cops posted in the police post guarding the Sikh minority community.
    However, SSP said that no one suffered injuries in the exchange of fire on the either side.
    He further said that a case has been registered and further investigation taken up. (GNS)

  • Grenade lobbed on forces in Pulwama

    Srinagar, May 19: Militants on Saturday lobbed a grenade on joint party of CRPF and police at Muran Chowk in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
    Confirming the incident a police officer told GNS that the device, however, did not explode.
    The officer said that Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot and the device is being defused. (GNS)

  • Three militants killed in north Kashmir gunfight

    Srinagar, May 18: Army on Friday claimed to have killed three militants in a gunfight at Brinjal forest area of Vilgam, Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    An army official told news agency GNS that soldiers of 15 RR intercepted a group of militants believed to be infiltrators at Brinjal forest adjacent to Shahnagar Jat Gali, around 7 kilometres away from Tehsil headquarter Vilgam.

    “The group of militants opened fire upon the forces which were retaliated by the troops triggering off a gunfight. The militants fired indiscriminately and in the gunfight that ensued, three infiltrators were gunned down,” he said.

    “We are ascertaining their outfit affiliation,” the official said, adding the operation is still going on. (GNS)

  • Unknown Gunmen loots JK Bank in Kulgam

    Srinagar, May 18: On Friday Unknown Gunmen looted J&K Bank branch at Qaimooh area of Kulgam district.
    SSP Kulgam Harmeet Singh confirmed the incident and told GNS that JK Branch Qaimoh has been looted with amount of 3 lac 28 thousand rupees.
    Official sources told that unknown gunmen were two in number who entered bank and looted said money.
    Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off. (GNS)

  • Militants attack army’s patrol in Tral forests, area cordoned off

    Srinagar, May 16: Militants on Wednesday attacked an army’s patrolling party in Tral forests of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

    Official sources told GNS that a group of militants opened fire on the army’s 42 RR near Koil Shikargah forest area at around 8:30 am.

    The soldiers retaliated to the fire. However, there was no immediate report of any casualty on either side.

    Soon after the attack, the additional reinforcement was rushed to the area and the whole area has been cordoned off to nab trace out the militants.

    When contacted, SSP Awantipora Zahid Malik confirmed the incident and said that police is verifying the details.

    “Exchange of fire happened, the area being cordoned off. It is forest area,” SSP said. (GNS)
