DSP Operations killed in Kulgam Gunfight

Kulgam, February 24: A senior police officer was killed during an ongoing encounter that broke between forces and militants in Turigam village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, a militant was killed while a cop and an Army man had sustained injuries in an encounter in Turigam village.

Official sources told KNO that SDPO Yaripora Aman Thakur has been killed in the gunfight while as the exchange of fire is still going on.

Pertinently, one unidentified militants was killed in an encounter this afternoon. They added that a cop and an Army man got wounded during the gunfight who were rushed for medical attention.

Earlier, the gunfight broke out this afternoon in Kulgam village after forces launched search operations in the village following specific inputs about the presence of militants there.

The search party was fired upon by the hiding militants during the search operation in the village, which was retaliated, thus leading to an encounter, they said.

They added two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area, saying that operation was going on. (KNO)
