Extension in Tosa Maidan Lease unacceptable: Hurriyat (G)
Srinagar: While rejecting the proposal to extend the lease to army over the Tosa Maidan firing range, Hurriyat Conference (G) cautioned about the move and termed it as unacceptable.According to a statement issued to KNS, Hurriyat (G) has said that it stands by the demand of the people from affected areas that the Tosa Maidan should be developed as tourist destination which will create many job opportunities for the poor people of the area. Ayaz Akbar, spokesman of the Hurriyat (G) has said that the Jammu Kashmir is the most militarized region in the world and they have forcibly occupied many lakh canals of land, which have made the life of surrounding people miserable. While terming the silence of Umar led government over the issue of Tosa Maidan as criminal, Hurriyat Conference said that the pro-Indian parties only care for their power and for this they can mortgage the entire state and the people with India. “They have failed in adopting a clear stand with respect to the lease of Tosa Maidan and they don’t want to make the army and intelligence upset because of the election drama of 2014.”Hurriyat (G) said that the areas like Gulmarg, Pehalgam, Toosa Maidan etc. are the models of the nature and beauty of Kashmir and due to these areas, Kashmir is known as Switzerland of Asia, but with the help of state government, the Indian army has forcibly occupied these landscapes and have created environmental problems for its future. Hurriyat cautioned that we are closely monitoring the issue of extension of lease of Toosa Maidan and if it happens, we will not sit silently.Meanwhile, paying tributes to Dr. Mohammad Ayoub Thakur on his 10 death anniversary, Hurriyat (G) prayed for his eternal peace. Akbar said that Thakur had dedicated his whole life for the Islam and Kashmir cause and he has been very loyal to this mission.(KNS) -
LS Elections crucial first step towards for change : Baig
NC sold out state intrests, resources: AnsariSrinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and Former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig has said NC has been persuing only the ideology of ‘power at any cost’ and it has never been bothered by the welfare of the people or their political problems. Responding to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s observation that the upcoming elections were an ideological battle Baig said the Chief Minister’s words donot amount to any thing except the usual poll time rhetoric by the NC, but “ there are no takers now for their statements”.Baig who is the party’s candidate for Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency was addressing a meeting of workers from Sonawari and Gurez Assembly Segments of Bandipora district. On this occasion senior PDP leader Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Chief Spokesman Naeem Akhtar, Molvi Abid Hussain Ansari, District President Yasir Reshi also attended and addressed the meeting.Baig said the elections to Lok Sabha would be the crucial first step towards a change in the system and government in the state. He said there of course would be a battle, but it will be between the arrogance of power that has blinded the NC to people’s problems on the one side and humility , a political vision and road map for development on the other which PDP represents. He said NC has degenerated as a political party into mere power broking structure that has had only the numerical strength in the assembly, but always lacked the credibility of a ruling party. He said the Lok sabha elections will in a good measure determine the future course of history in Jammu & Kashmir as it could send the NC and its exploitative structure into the dust bin of history.Baig said the people of the state this time have a clear choice to make wether they want to give PDP a chance with a decisive mandate or continue with the antipeople policies of NC and its rusted and out dated politics .He said voting for PDP in the Lok Sabha elections would be the first step towards a change that the people of the state have been wanting for the last six years.Baig said the election time is an hour of reckoning for all political parties. The emergence of PDP as credible alternative has ended the monopoly of the NC and it is now time that the people judge both parties on the basis of their policies , the credibility of their leadership and their performance in government and in opposition. “It will be very easy for any body to find out that PDP is way ahead of NC on all these counts” Baig said.Referring to the Chief Minister’s another statement that “Dr Farooq was never my best friend” Baig said this is an attempt by the Chief Minister to distance himself from his father who has made himself even more unpopular with his recent abusive statements against people of Kashmir. Baig said Omar has realised that by calling Kashmiris Maha Chors (Big theives) Farooq Abdullah has finally burnt his bridges with the people who have for decades helped the family to enjoy luxuries of power and is dissociating with Senior Abdullah. Farooq’s statement is in the nature of ‘ Pot calling kettle black’ as he is facing a serious charges of embazelment in the cricket scam in which the police has reportedly established his involvement, said Baig. He said Omar also is in the dock for the suspicious death of Haji Yousuf and the dirty money that the Abdullahs have been collecting to fix mandates and ministerial positions.Baig said to remain in the power the NC has been exploiting people on hallow promises from last more than 60 years now. “Be it in 1975 or 1996, the NC has always betrayed people and compromised their interests, self-respect for the sake of power,” they have been treating people as their slaves and it is their deliberate strategy to defame the image of Kashmiri’s to remain relevant in certain quarters in New Delhi, Baig added.Baig said all the U-turns that NC leadership has taken throughout its history has resulted in a serious trust deficit between the people of Kashmir and rest of the country. He said NC whippedup emotions in Kashmir in the name of pelbicite, autonomy which caused turmoil but never gave the people a chance to use their vote in a free and fair exercise. The rigg polls angered the youth who were forced to takeup arms and NC again posed as the only nationalist force and sought license from Delhi to manage Kashmir. ‘ when they propagated seperatism no body could match them and when they pose as nationalists they claim that every body else is an enemy agent and sending their oponents to jail and use bullets to silence any protest or voices of dissent’ Baig said adding that in the process the NC leadership accumulated wealth , built huge estates in and outside the state, looted our resources and converted the state into a begging bowl.Speaking on this Occasion Senior Party leader Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari said NC leadership has sold the most feasible power projects to NHPC only for the chair. ‘Meter Todo; Heater Lago’ (break meters, use heaters) slogan, by NC during 2008, was an assault on the system, which PDP had reformed during its brief stint in the government. He said they went back on this promise and instead gave consumers a shock by raising the electricity tariff five fold in the last five years. “Instead of their promises, what they gave the people of Kashmir pellet guns, chilli grenades, PSAs, arrests, disabilities and police cases, adding that the NC promoted darkness with load shedding touching new lowest level of power supply,Molvi said they(NC) handed over the administration to middle man, agents and bringing development process to a halt. While the ministers and ruling party politicians became richer, the state became poorer and people, from whom NC took votes on the promise of good governance, where subjected to unending curfews, tear gassing, lathi charge, if they ever raised their voices against the government atrocities. -

Will watch Modi’s conduct, if he becomes PM: Mirwaiz
Some of the members who are now with Shah’s Huriyat wanted executive membership in Huriyat (M)Srinagar: Stating that it would be important to watch Narendra Modi’s conduct in case he assumes the office of the Prime Minister, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said for the overall socio- political and economic development of South Asia the leadership of the region has to look beyond the narrow, communal and parochial boundaries.Talking to KNS, Mirwaiz said, “During Vajpayee’s tenure things moved ahead as far as the Indo-Pak relations and the Kashmir issue is concerned. We hope in case Mr. Modi becomes the Prime Minister, Vajpayee approach will not be forgotten altogether.”Commenting over the present political situation, Huriyat (M) Chairman maintained that the resistance movement has entered into a mature ‘phase’ now that people of Kashmir are now giving preference to the non-violent movement. “They utilize their resources whatever they have in hand. Earlier there used to be street pretests but now we have seen that the younger generation is taking on social networking sites and is informing the world about Kashmir’s real problem.” Mirwaiz added that world has acknowledged the sensitivity of Kashmir dispute through the cyber world as the youth now are raising concerns in blogs and other web tools.Commenting over the recent Huriyat split, Mirwaiz stated that some of the members who are now with Shah’s Huriyat wanted executive membership in Huriyat (M).” There is a procedure of everything. We must follow the rules in letter and spirit to uphold the values of our amalgam.”Mirwaiz added that if Shabir Shah had any issues, he should have discussed the same within the forum and not outside the forum. “He made the issues public. Also they didn’t attend the Huriyat meets for more than one year.As far as the constitution is concerned- it is open to all- I must say that if we talk about the implementation of UN resolutions, we must talk about the Indo-Pak dialogue.”He added further that unity is important and we feel that all pro movement leaders are one in striving for the resolution of the Kashmir Issue. We have a common cause and at critical movements we have raised our voice in unison. However, this needs to be understood that APHC being a forum rather than a single party we believe in democratic norms and try to work democratically, he said while adding that sometimes differences in the methods of working arise which is sometimes unfortunately blown out of proportions.Commenting over the policy of Huriyat vis-à-vis forthcoming polls, Huriyat (M) Chairman stated that Huriyat has already rejected all elections processes. “We don’t accept elections as means for the resolution of Kashmir issue. Elections for local bodies or legislations are in no way connected with the future dispensation of Kashmir, that is, what is laid down in UN resolutions.” He added that it is also for Kashmir’s leadership to see that it doesn’t not fall in the trap of making it a referendum for or against the Indian presence in Kashmir. “Elections in Kashmir, as has been provided in UN resolutions also, or anybody elected through these elections has no authority to decide upon the future dispensation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. That is why for us Elections is a Non Isuue and we ask people to reject these sham elections.”When asked about the alternate solutions his amalgam is talking for the Kashmir resolution Mirwaiz maintained that Huriyat constitution has laid down way back in 1993 the basic approach towards the resolution of this issue. It lays down that a resolution can be achieved at through a peaceful struggle by securing the right of self determination in accordance with the U.N character and the resolution adopted by U.N Security council. “As an alternative it has also laid down to make endeavors for a settlement through negotiations involving all the three parties to the dispute i.e. People of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India and Pakistan.” Mirwaiz added that to strive for a negotiated settlement is a constitutional responsibility of Huriyat and if serious negotiations start all the formulas that have come forward from various quarters can be discussed.Kashmir’s chief religious cleric however stated that without a congenial atmosphere dialogue cannot be result oriented. “The government is using all possible methods of coercion and suppression to bring the people down to their knees. Flagrant violations of human rights of people are going on day in and day out. Injustice and peace building cannot go together.”Commenting over the Nawaz Sharief’s recent offer to India for the dialogue on Kashmir resolution, Mirwaiz said that that Nawaz Sharief’s offer is a right decision taken at the right time. “Being two nuclear powers Pakistan and India cannot afford perpetual confrontation or state of tension between them. There are economic reasons as well. Both these countries cannot utilize their full potential of economic growth and prosperity in the absence of cooperation with each other. Therefore dialogue is essential and resolution of all pending issues between the two is a must.”Mirwaiz added that since Kashmir being at the root of confrontation, assumes priority and that by inviting India for a dialogue for the resolution of Kashmir would be like catching the bull by its horns and if it is done a strong possibility of a way forward could be expected. “ It is, however, important that any process in this regard needs Kashmiris to be taken on board because without involvement and without their satisfaction desired results cannot be achieved.” (KNS) -
UPA led Govt ‘ideal’ for J&K; BJP a ‘worst’ option: Omar
Rejects pre-poll surveys, says these are ‘fixed’ ‘Governance, new administrative units, normalcy in NC’s manifesto’Jammu: Terming UPA led government an ideal situation for Jammu and Kashmir, chief minister Omar Abdullah is of the opinion that the BJP led government at the Centre will not be in the interests of the state. Omar also made it clear that in case the Congress fails to form the next government at the Centre, he will prefer joining a Third Front supported by the Congress rather than joining BJP led government. In an exclusive interview with KNS, at CM’s secretariat in Jammu, Omar said: “For us the ideal situation is a UPA government. But unfortunately, if they don’t come to power, then I would prefer a Third Front government supported by the Congress.” He remarked that the worst option for his party to support is the BJP led government. “Because, it is completely an untested entity. Had BJP nominated Atal Behrai Vajpayee or L K Advani as its prime ministerial candidates, it was still worth to pay a heed. But you know nothing about BJP’s present prime ministerial candidate Narindera Modi except for what he says about Gujarat. We even don’t know what is happening in Gujarat. So it is an untested force. Let us see.”About pre-poll alliance with its coalition partner Congress in the state, the Chief Minister said his party has followed its alliance model of 2009 where NC and the Congress had fielded three candidates each. “We repeated those three candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on our share of three out of six seats. Let us see how Congress will go with the nominations of their candidates for rest of three Lok Sabha seats,” Omar informed. The chief minister added: “We have not fielded three candidates in Jammu because of the pre poll alliance. Let us be very clear, if there will be no pre-poll alliance between NC-Congress there will be no government in the state. Because there is no way that the NC and the Congress can fight each other in the parliament and sit in the cabinet together and govern the state jointly. That is hypocrisy which will not be accepted by the people.”When asked about the consistent demand of the Congress to field its candidate from one more Lok Sabha constituencies in the state besides having its own share of three seats, Omar termed the demand ‘unjustified’. “This is an unjustified demand. Why should we drop our sitting MP for this attitude? I would have been ready to debate on a seat if there would been no sitting MP from our party. Suppose we agree for pre-poll alliance for the assembly elections, then will they ask to drop our sitting MLAs as well. Tomorrowthey will ask me to leave Ganderbal or Gurez for them; is that a justified demand? Dr Farooq sahib had come here to get the feedback from the party on the Congress demand for one Lok Sabha seat of the valley but the party didn’t allow him to go for it. The party said that we have three sitting MPs and we should retain these three seats,” Omar told KNS.However, he clearly maintained that his party colleagues like some circles in the Congress, do not want to forge a pre-poll alliance for the forthcoming assembly elections in the state. “People in both the parties do not want pre poll alliance in coming assembly elections. If you talk to my party colleagues, they will not say it officially but unofficially they will confirm this.”While referring to pre poll surveys conducted by some organizations in collaboration with some media houses in Delhi, Omar categorically rejected these surveys saying that they are a fixed poll surveys. “It has been proven that C-Voter people take money to do these exit polls. Headlines today and India today have said that they will not work with the C-Voter anymore because they indulge in fixed polls. I don’t trust any pre-poll survey. You ask ten people and decide the fate of one lac! People will vote and those votes will decide and these surveys can’t change the results. We have a direct competition with PDP. Who says no?”Asked about preparedness of his party National Conference and the agenda with which it will go to people to seek votes, Omar said that his party is well prepared to go to people and seek their support. “We have already announced our three candidates in December 2013 and from that day we started our preparations for the ensuing polls. Since the poll bigul has been sounded and the election notification has already been issued, there will be campaigning now and I think we will have to go to the ground seek votes from people and let us what people decide.”About NC’s manifesto for Lok Sabha elections, Omar said that the same will be prepared by the party’s manifesto committee. “Obviously our agenda will be five years of governance, our performance, developmental work, creation of new administrative units and the extent of normalcy in the security situation of the state.” When asked to elaborate any breakthrough on NC’s major slogans like revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), return of power projects, employment and so on, the chief minister said: “This is an ongoing process. Obviously what government gets elected in Delhi will have some implications on these things. So we will see what happens.” However, he said an assessment of the AFSPA has to be made by state government, home ministry and the defense ministry. We are in the process of discussing it. Let us see.”He termed a brief halt (January-February 2014) in Cross LoC trade ‘unfortunate’ saying that the incident occurred because of one individual (Pakistani truck driver) who should face the legal course of action. “Suspension of trade was an unfortunate situation because it is one individual who is involved in drug smuggling. Reality is that there was only one driver from Pakistan involved in the matter but there were many people from this side of the LoC involved in this racket. Those people who were supposed to lift that drugs consignment and the end users of it were all involved. It was a nexus. It is not that the whole blame lies on the other side of LoC but the law must follow its own course. Suppose if our driver is arrested in Pakistan under the charges of drug smuggling then he will go to jail in Pakistan. The Pakistani law will follow. But fortunately the other side has understood this. They have not made it a prestige point. We will follow the law and whatever the courts will decide, will happen.”On creation of new administrative units and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) allegation that these units exist only on papers and have been created for political reasons, Omar said that these units have been approved by the cabinet and there has been a provision kept in the budget for the non plan expenditure. “Now that our plan is being approved there will be a provision kept for the planned expenditure. The Planning commission’s approval does not matter in this regard. We will manage our resources. I cannot inaugurate these units because of the model code of conduct already enforced. Once this code of conduct is over in May, I will start inaugurating these new administrative units in the state.” He said that the opposition PDP is confused on this issue. “First they say that these units exist only on papers then they broke furniture in assembly demanding more units.”
Omar also ridiculed the opinion about possible dangerous consequences of US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan on Kashmir. “There will be no impact of US troop withdrawal in Afghanistan on Kashmir. The groups with vested interests who do not want revocation of AFSPA in Kashmir try to scare us using this kind of theory. I think the US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan will impact security situation in Kashmir only if the conducive security situation in Kashmir is a result of their (US troops) efforts. If our army would say that the credit for normalcy in Kashmir goes to America then obviously there could be some dangerous implications of US troop withdrawal in Afghanistan. But you can’t say that your sacrifices have made this peaceful situation possible in Kashmir and in the same breath, say if this peace is disturbed it is because of American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.”(KNS) -
Some people within Hurriyat want to damage Mirwaiz family: Shabir Shah
We will have strong relation with Geelani in futureSrinagar: Stating that he has no personal rivalry with Huriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Senior Huriyat Conference JK leader Shabir Shah said that some people seem ‘hell-bent’ upon damaging the very foundations of Mirwaiz family.Shah while talking to KNS stated that the cause on the ongoing resistance is supreme that any person and that no party shall be allowed to breach people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We have no personal rivalry with any party. The issue is about the constitution. We have the constitution and we have to follow that in letter and spirit to achieve our objective. We cannot undermine the importance of the constitution. We want the same to be restored.”He stated further that HCJK will have a strong coordination with Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani. “At present there is no contact with Geelani sahib but in future there will be a strong coordination.” Shah stated further that people of valley must go for a complete poll boycott of the forth coming polls and that terming polls a non- issue means supporting pro-India parties. “It will be tantamount to supporting India once we term polls a non-issue.”The senior leader of the newly formed amalgam added that he rejects the bilateral system of talks and that the negotiations for Kashmir resolution must be between the three main stake holders of the dispute. “Never on earth shall we support the bilateral talks. It has not yielded anything for us. We have seen that in past the dialogue processes failed because the people of Kashmir were not taken into confidence. Also we demand that the third country must mediate to resolve the decades old conflict.”Maintaining that unity is only possible among the likeminded people and the the unity of minds must be preferred over the unity of heads. “Hope sustains life. I still hope that the pro-freedom camp must be unified for the larger interests of the people of Kashmir but at the same time we want to clear that unity is only possible among the likeminded people and the unity must be on principles.”(KNS) -
Worn Out Slippers of Supreme Leader Of Iran
Worn-out slippers of the Leader of a country with the 3rd highest proven oil reserves and 2nd proven gas reserves in the worldBy » [Waseem Raza]In the recent meetings of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatullah Sayyid Ali Khameine, and members of the Assembly of Experts, we saw the worn-out slippers of the great Leader.Worn-out slippers of the Leader of a country with the 3rd highest proven oil reserves and 2nd proven gas reserves in the world!I felt guilty and shamed of myself because all my shoes and slippers are far better than that. Intact I do not wear worn-out slippers, slippers are replaced before they get worn-out.When I saw those worn-out slippers of the Leader, I asked myself this question ‘Am I a true follower of the Leader’?That is a lesson to all of us, we should take this world lightly and concentrate on issues that are more important, issues like elevating the plight of the poor no matter how little. It was reported in history that Imam Ali(as) when he was the Amir ul-Mu’mineen used to mend his shoes with his own hands, and today he is the greatest role-model after the Prophet(sa) for all those who seek guidance. The above incidence also reminded me of another incident involving Ayatullah Khameine in 1989 when he was appointed to replace the late Imam Khomeini(rd). Then the frame of the glasses he was using was made of silver, when he was appointed as the Leader of the Islamic Revolution he changed that frame to an ordinary one and gave the silver frame in charity. Its truly a honor to have lived as a contemporary and a follower to such a Leader. -
NC representatives responsible for deliberate denial of democracy : PDP
Change in Srinagar is now or neverSrinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth wing in charge, Waheed-ur- Rehman Parra has said youth of Srinagar has suffered a systematic exploitation over the last sixty years at the hands of those who have represented it the most that is why the city is facing huge development crisis, growth stagnation and economic backwardness and the present election is the ‘Now or Never’ opportunity for the youth to get rid of this. Addressing a youth gathering from Srinagar on the party’s ‘Youth For Change’ campaign at Lala Rukh Lal chock, Waheed termed Srinagar as crown of J&K, which has, unfortunately, remained misrepresented for youth and the ruling party has always taken the city dwellers for granted for its political benefits. He said if developed and projected properly, the summer capital can compete with the best developed cities in the world given its historic, aesthetic and cultural value.Waheed said the people in Srinagar are facing tremendous problems on multiple fronts and its youth are not getting due share in the government and other public sector jobs. Srinagar youth has been facing bullets, killings, torture and state repression. He said unemployment ratio in Srinagar is high and the ruling party can’t go unscathed for the deceit, tricks it played with the youth of the city over the years now. He said it was the denial of democracy and the subsequent betrayals which have pushed the youth to the wall and the PDP will involve them in the governance system so that they could realise their dreams and will help the party in its unfinished agenda of J&K resolution and good governance. He said the youth are looking for quality education, respectful job avenues and have nothing to do with the politics of polarization and deceit practiced by the National Conference from time to time. He said no serious efforts were taken to address the grievances and anger of the youth, who are going through huge depression, resulted out of resultant betrayals at the hands of National Conference. He said the maximum youth who got martyred in 2010 at the hands of security forces and majority of whom against FIRs have been lodged are from Srinagar. He said by calling Srinagar their bastion, the ruling party politicians are simply adding insult to the injury of youth who have faced maximum brunt of their cruelty and callousness. He said the PDP envisions making the youth powerful and wants to bring back the scholarly status the state used to enjoy in the past. He said it is the policy of PDP to establish more quality schools, world class universities, research institutions in J&K that not only will help in stopping the money drain but will encourage people from other parts of the country, South and Central Asia to come over here for study purposes. He said next elections will be books versus ballot and merit versus money.Waheed said the trend has to be changed now, and the youth of Srinagar must come forward and help PDP to see an end of the NC’s exploitive politics which they have been playing with the state in general and the city in particular for a long time now. He said it is now up to people to think what is good for them, and PDP will ensure a transparent and accountable governance system that will respect the their aspirations. He said 2014 will be the turning point in the history of J&K and youth will be the agents of change.Speaking on occasion PDP Dist. Vice President Srinagar Ab Rouf said Srinagar needs a planned development keeping in view its rich history, culture and ambiance and the PDP during its brief tenure in the government not only tried to change the development discourse in the city but ushered in a new era of change in its entire outlook. The four laning of by pass, beautification of Jhelum bunds, development of historic Eid Gah, Jamia Masjid, Aali Masjid, construction of Veer Chattabal, reforms in power, mega drainage system, construction of first flyover etc. were some important projects which PDP could take up in the brief tenure. He said it is the PDP vision to take the development to next level and not to confine it to just lanes and drains only as is done by NC. He said change in the governance system is must to provide people relief and the youth of Srinagar have an important role to play in establishing an honest, accountable and transparent system in the state, so that the growth stagnation , economic deprivation which the city is facing will end. Hundreds of youth who interacted with youth leader highlighted the gripping insecurity among the youth and condemned the unfortunate remarks by Farooq Abdullah against Kashmiris. They appreciated the PDP roadmap of Self rule which was shown to them through Power point presentation. The youngsters pledged to participate in elections wholeheartedly and send the best people to parliament as their representative. On this occasion Youth Leaders Dr Shanti singh, Mohd Lateef Mir and others were also present and spoke to the gathering. -
