Homeland demand is aimed at making Kashmir another Palestine: Er Rashid
Srinagar: Awami Ittihaad Party President (AIP) and MLA Langate Engineer Rashid has stated that granting citizenship status to West Pakistani refugee settled in Jammu and Kashmir would have serious consequences for the state.
According to a statement issued to KNS, while speaking in the assembly today on the topics related to revenue, rehabilitation and law affairs Engineer Rashid stated that until doomsday it is not possible to grant permanent state subject rights to refugees from Pakistan as it is not only against the very paradigm of justice but aims at destroying the majority character of Muslims and strongly criticized Jammu based members for demanding the same.
Pertinently, Engineer Rashid stated: “If the state government is serious in addressing the issues of Pakistani refugees than it should raise the issue with Central Government. Government of India can take up the same with Government of Pakistan so that they can be settled comfortably back at their native places.
Er Rashid also criticized members of Jammu for trying to revive the issue related to restoration of ‘Dogra Certificate’ terming it illogical to get recruited in Army or other institution just on account of having ‘Dogra Ethnicity’. “Dogra Certificate revival would mean a great injustice against Muslims of Jammu region,” stated Engineer Rashid.
While reflecting on the issue of rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandit Community, Engineer Rashid advised the migrant Pandit community not to fall in the trap of Government. “The Homeland demand is aimed at making Kashmir another Palestine which won’t be allowed to happen .Kashmiri Pandits are part and parcel of Kashmiri society and they need to win the trust of majority community and fight alongside them for the just resolution of Kashmir issue rather than going after absurd packages,” stated Er Rashid.
On the other hand, Engineer Rashid expressed disappointment over the fact that in 1989 when first bullet was fired in Kashmir the major portion of Pandit community left Kashmir and virtually left the Muslim Community at the mercy of guns. “I question those fanatic pandit leaders who always speak in loud voices and call themselves the real patriots of India where was there conscience and nationalism when they took this step in 1989 to leave Kashmir and leave Muslim community alone to suffer. Realistically, in the major part of our unfortunate history mostly Muslim community lost lives to keep the occupation of India intact in Kashmir through getting used by vested forums like NC, PDP, Congress or Task force.”
Deliberating on the issue of administrative units, Engineer Rashid made it once again clear that in an undue manner Jammu region was granted big share while drafting new administrative units in state as compared to Kashmir region.
Engineer Rashid on the occasion also called for ensuring speedy justice in the Tabinda Gani rape and murder case and stated that the then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had established fast track court and ensured speedy justice. However he welcomed the statement of Law Minister statement that judgment would be soon delivered in this case. Engineer Rashid also expressed displeasure that lawlessness is increasing in state and government is patronizing the corrupt and dishonest elements. (KNS) -
Guru was hanged with Omar’s consent: SAR Geelani
Srinagar: Claiming that chief minister Omar Abdullah was privy to the decision on Afzal Guru’s hanging, Professor SAR Geelani Thursday alleged that Omar was called to Delhi for a detailed meet, a week before Guru was executed.
“The pro-India politicians in Kashmir had full knowledge about the exact date of Guru’s hanging and they all had given their consent for the same,” Geelani, who was acquitted by the Supreme Court in Parliament attack case claimed in a telephonic statement to KNS from Delhi.
“This chest beating at present is nothing but an election gimmick. Farooq Abdullah stated at the time of Guru’s hanging that justice has been delivered and now he is taking a U-turn as elections are near.” Geelani stated further that Guru’s hanging has changed all the equations in Kashmir and that now educated youth are joining the militant ranks. ”We have seen that the youth who are taking arms against Indian rule are not among an unemployed lot- they are well informed and well educated.”
Reacting to the Supreme Court judgment that commuted death sentence of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins to life in prison, Geelani stated that double standards adopted by the Judiciary have given the clear message to the people of Kashmir that they are living in the colony.”People of Kashmir have not understood where they stand.”
He added that Guru was hanged because ‘he was a Muslim and that too from Kashmir’. “It is not only Guru’s hanging but also Maqbool Bhat was sent to gallows in the same manner.” For the death sentence, you need the confirmation of the high court and in Bhat’s case, no confirmation was sought, said Geelani, adding that according t the law, death sentence is only given in the rarest of the rare case that too when the guilt of the accused is established beyond reasonable doubt.
He said that even the Delhi high court had stated that Police fabricated the evidence and forged the documents. “Then how Guru was hanged is beyond anyone’s logic. The people have understood now that how Guru was picked up against the queue- this is because India wants to give clear message to the people here that Kashmir is our colony and whosever rebels against our occupation will be killed like Guru.”
Stating that the decision of Supreme Court of commuting the death sentence into life imprisonment of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins on one side and hanging of Guru on the other is unjustified, Geelani stated that its repercussions will be disastrous in Kashmir valley. “See the number of militancy related incidents have taken place since Guru’s hanging. India has given clear signal to the people of Kashmir that it is at war against the people here.” (KNS) -
Congress responsible for hanging Guru: Mehbooba
Jammu: Accusing Congress of being responsible of Guru’s hanging, opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday while creating ruckus in the assembly stated that Congress was in hurry to hang Afzal.
According to KNS Jammu correspondent, talking to press outside the assembly secretariat, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti accused that congress played the foul play against BJP and hanged Guru was on number 28 in the queue. “We demanded that Guru’s mortal remains must be given to his family for the proper burial and also adopted the resolution in this regard but the home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde threw the same in the dust bin.”
She stated further that the people of valley protested for the moral remains of Guru for tow months on the streets and that it was Congress that was in power in Delhi when Guru was hanged. “It is beyond logic that now Congress is expressing grief over Guru’s hanging and asking for his mortal remains- where Congress was when Guru was mercilessly hanged in Tihar?”
PDP president also stated that when the death sentence of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins was commuted into the life imprisonment, how come Guru was picked from the queue and hanged. “Are we the citizens of different India where Justice cannot be delivered? Both Congress and BJP is playing the cheap politics over Guru’s hanging and through this salt is being rubbed over the wounds of Kashmiris.” (KNS) -
‘No dialogue going on with Delhi’: Hurriyat (M)
Srinagar: Reacting sharply to the statement of Indian Minister of State for Home Affairs R. P. N. Singh in the Parliament of India that the government of India was talking with the Hurriyat leadership, the a Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman has said that the Minister’s statement was misleading and made with a malicious intention to malign the image of Hurriyat Leadership as well as to hoodwink the public opinion here and abroad.
According to a statement issued to KNS, the Hurriyat (M) has said where as it was the considered policy of Hurriyat that the resolution of Kashmir issue lies in the implementation of UN resolutions or through a dialogue among the main stake holders i.e. people of Kashmir, India and Pakistan, the statement of Minister in Indian Parliament was far from truth. The Hurriyat (M) spokesman has said that at present no dialogue is going on between Hurriyat and New Delhi. Hurriyat believes in transparency with regard to dialogue and whenever we met Indian or Pakistani leadership it was done before the full public gaze and in a transparent manner.
The spokesman further said that the statement of the minister was self contradictory. The minister has said that “Mirwaiz met a former intelligence officer in November 2013” but added further with it that “the government was not aware of the deliberations of the meeting”. The Spokesman said that meeting prominent people, intellectuals, journalists and diplomats was part of Hurriyat agenda to make efforts to find a peaceful solution of Kashmir dispute. In pursuance to this policy Hurriyat Leaders met A. S Dulat, former Intelligence Officer, in New Delhi in Nov. 2013 and the leadership informed the Hurriyat rank and file and also the people in general about this meeting. By saying that “the government was not aware of the deliberations of the meeting”, it has been admitted by the Minister that the officer was not meeting Hurriyat on behalf of the government.
The spokesman said that Hurriyat was not shy of a dialogue and whenever Hurriyat feels that the possibility of a purposeful dialogue to settle the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir permanently arises, the Hurriyat will not hesitate to participate. (KNS) -

Alcohol Promotion a State backed Phenomenon ‘Ban Liquor or Face Agitation’: DAK
Srinagar: President Doctors Association of Kashmir Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan castigated Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather for his remarks that the manufacture, sale and consumption of alcohol cannot be banned in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement to CNS he said that this is shocking to know that the sale of alcohol bottles has increased to 520 lacs bottles in 2012 as against 30.51 lacs in 2011.Government is delibrately supporting the sale of alcohol for revenue generation and are promoting social evils in the society. Rather’s statement is safe to conclude that alcohol promotion is a state backed phenomenon/conspiracy to destroy our social fabric and cultural traditions.
“Mr Rather is legalizing a poison. Alcohol destroys individuals and societies.Alcohol kills and invites social evils in the society. It is not a remedy but a disease. It causes neurological disorders, heart attacks, gastrointestinal bleeds, pancreatic disease, cirrhosis and cancer of mouth, esophagus, stomach and liver.State is duty bound to uphold its own constitution wherein under article 47 state shall endeavour to bring about prohibition of use and trade of alcohol .State has moral and legal obligation to ban the trade of alcohol. If alcohol is banned in Gujrat and many other states, why not in J&K?”
“We as conscious nation have a responsibility to cleanse the society from social evils and safeguard our social fabric.
DAK is commited to fight against the use and trade of alcohol in the state. We will in no case allow state to promote this menace on this sacred soil. We warn state of dire consequences if liqor is not banned. We appeal all religiuos clerics to sensitise nation and prepare them for a state wide agitation against this menace,” he said.

Clashes in south Kashmir after protestors attempt to set ablaze police vehicles
PULWAMA: Intense clashes broke out in south Kashmir Thursday afternoon after protestors tried to set ablaze police vehicles in the area.
Authorities have imposed a curfew in Pulwama town and its adjoining areas after a local militant, Tawseef Ahmad of Pulwama district was killed in an encounter with forces in Dalwan village of central Kashmir.
The encounter led to resentment among the locals who alleged that the slain was killed in astaged encounter. Defying curfew orders, they came out on the streets and shouted anti- India and pro-freedom slogans.
Reports said a large gathering of protestors including women and children hit the streets in Muran chowk and pelted stones at the forces who have been deployed in large numbers in the area to prevent any protest.
The protestors pelted stones at the forces who retaliated with teargas and fired in the air to disperse the crowd. They also tried to set ablaze police and Army vehicles parked in the locality but their attempts were foiled.
On Wednesday, Army and police personnel shot dead Tawseef Ahmad in Dalwan village, some 38 kilometres from summer capital Srinagar, who they said was a militant. The forces claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
Protests had broken out in the village after the encounter when the forces refused to hand over the body of the slain militant to the locals in which a young boy was injured. -
Pakistan ready to consider Independent status of Kashmir: PaK Pres.
SRINAGAR: Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan has hinted that Pakistan was ready to talk with India on the option of carving out an independent state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We are ready to consider the option, if India comes to the negotiating table and puts forward the idea of giving Kashmir independent status,” PaK president remarked in what appears to be a major policy shift.
The Pakistani media reports said that the option of an independent state of Jammu and Kashmir had always been a contentious issue amongst the Kashmiris themselves and in India and Pakistan.
The PaK president is quoted as saying that Pakistan was sincere in wanting to resolve the Kashmir issue. “These things (discussing options) are only possible when India comes to the negotiating table and admits that Kashmir is a disputed territory,” he added. “If India agrees to give Kashmir an independence status, we can also think (along these lines),” PaK President was quoted as saying.
To a question about the possibility of the BJP coming to power in India and its impact on the Kashmir issue, the PaK president said he was more hopeful of a resolution to the issue with the BJP in power. “Congress has never shown any seriousness (to resolve the issue),” he remarked.
He said once NATO forces begin drawing back from Afghanistan, the Kashmir issue will once again become important. He said Afghanistan had overshadowed the Kashmir issue for the past 10 years.
