  • ‘US will directly raise with China issue of genocide against Uighur Muslims’

Washington: The United States will directly raise with China the issue of genocide against Uighur Muslims, the Biden Administration said on Thursday.

It added that a range of global issues is expected to part of the conversation of the Quad’s leadership summit.

“Addressing the genocide against Uighur Muslims is something that will be a topic of discussion with the Chinese directly next week but certainly this conversation (Quad summit) tomorrow… I have invited National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to come and give you a readout of that meeting.

“I know there’s a lot of interest in the Quad summit tomorrow, but we expect the conversation to be about a range of global issues,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at her daily news conference.

The Quad summit, she reiterated, is not focused on China. “Of course, China is a topic on the minds of many leaders and countries, but we expect they will talk about the climate crisis, about economic cooperation, about addressing COVID, a range of issues and discussions and you know certainly the position of the United States is that what is happening is genocide and we will look for opportunities to work with other partners on putting additional pressure on the Chinese, but we also raise it directly, and it will be a topic of discussion next week,” she said.

Days after the Quad summit, US Secretary of State and the National Security Advisor are scheduled to meet their Chinese counterparts in Anchorage, Alaska on March 18.

“This meeting next week, we felt it was important to have it on US soil, we certainly anticipate that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Tony Blinken will be discussing both the challenges we’ve had, and not holding back on issues and concerns we have with the behaviour of Chinese leadership, whether it’s on Taiwan or recent, you know, efforts to push back democracy in Hong Kong or on concerns we have about the economic relationship,” Psaki said in response to another question.

“So they will certainly raise those issues and the lack of transparency as it relates to COVID, human rights abuses as well. But they’ll also talk about areas of opportunity and ways we can work together. They will not be holding back in the conversation. But they wanted to, you know, it’s an important moment next week to engage directly and in person. I know they’re looking forward to it. We’ll have a robust readout, I’m sure, when that meeting concludes,” Psaki said.

At a separate news conference, State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters that the US will engage China from a position of strength. “There will be some difficult conversations, I would expect. We will certainly not pull any punches in discussing our areas of disagreement,” he said.
“But as Secretary (of State Tony) Blinken has said, our relationship with Beijing is a multifaceted one. It is fundamentally competitive. It is adversarial, in some ways. And there also are potential areas for collaboration. And so I suspect all of those elements will come up during these discussions on March 18,” he said.

The United States, he said, expects Beijing to demonstrate seriousness regarding its own often stated desire to change the tone of the bilateral relationship.

“This will be a difficult conversation. We’ll be frank and explain how Beijing’s actions and behaviour challenge the security, the prosperity, the values of not only the United States, but also our partners and allies,” he said.

“Now, on the flip side of that coin, we also will explore avenues that, for cooperation, that are in our interest. When Secretary Blinken first spoke with Director Young, when Secretary–when President Biden first spoke with President Xi, they made very clear that there will be areas for collaboration, or at least there will be the potential for areas of collaboration. But there has to be one common denominator, when it is in our national interests,” he said.

“Of course, climate change, I think, is one of those that we can tangibly point to is undeniably in our own national interests for the world’s largest and the world’s second largest emitters to be able to work productively and constructively together when it comes to climate change. But the point remains that we’re not looking to engage in talks for the sake of talks, Price said.

The US is looking for Beijing to demonstrate that seriousness of purpose, to demonstrate that it seeks to live up to its own oft stated desire to change the tone of the bilateral relationship.
The relationship between US and China, he said is multifaceted. “It is primarily and fundamentally a relationship that is predicated on competition. Our goal, when it comes to our relationship with Beijing, our approach to Beijing is to compete and ultimately to out compete with Beijing, in the areas that are competitive. We have talked about them, the economic realms, the security realms are primarily competitive,” he said.

“There are, of course, areas in this relationship that are adversarial. And there are areas for potential collaboration. So I wouldn’t want to attach one label to it, because it truly is multifaceted. We are going to discuss those more difficult areas with the Chinese,” he said.

He said there was every expectation that when it comes to more difficult issues — Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, pressure on Taiwan, broader human rights abuses, the South China Sea, the Mekong, economic pressure arbitrary detentions, the origins of COVID-19 — they would come up. (PTI)

  • Fearing Blood Clots, Several Countries Including Denmak Suspend Use of AstraZeneca Covid-19 Vaccine

    • The vaccine would be suspended for 14 days, Danish authorities said
    • AstraZeneca has said its shots are subject to strict and rigorous quality controls and that there have been no confirmed serious adverse events associated with the vaccine”.

COPENHAGEN : Denmark has temporarily suspended Oxford University-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine shots after reports of cases of blood clots forming, including one in Denmark, Danish authorities said on Thursday.

They did not say how many reports of blood clots there had been, but Austria has stopped using a batch of AstraZeneca shots while investigating a death from coagulation disorders and an illness from a pulmonary embolism.

They said six other European countries had halted the use of a vaccine batch from AstraZeneca.

“Both we and the Danish Medicines Agency have to respond to reports of possible serious side-effects, both from Denmark and other European countries,” the director of the Danish Health Authority, Soren Brostrom, said in a statement.

The vaccine would be suspended for 14 days, the health agency said. It did not give details of the Danish blood clot patient.

AstraZeneca has said its shots are subject to strict and rigorous quality controls and that there have been “no confirmed serious adverse events associated with the vaccine”. It said it was in contact with Austrian authorities and would fully support their investigation.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Wednesday there was no evidence so far linking AstraZeneca to the two cases in Austria.

It said the number of thromboembolic events – marked by the formation of blood clots – in people who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine is no higher than that seen in the general population, with 22 cases of such events being reported among the 3 million people who have received it as of March 9.

The Danish Medicines Agency said it had launched an investigation into the vaccine together with corresponding agencies in other EU-countries as well as EMA.

“It is important to emphasise that we have not opted out of using the AstraZeneca vaccine, but that we are putting it on hold,” Brostrom said.

The agency said it had pushed back the final date for when it expects all Danes to have been fully vaccinated by four weeks to Aug. 15 as a result of the vaccine suspension.

  • Isra wal-Miraj -The Miraculous Night Journey

Glory to (Allah) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who hearth and seeth (all things).

Talha b. ‘Abd Allah, one of the ten men who were promised to enter paradise, said. I asked the prophet about the meaning of Subhana Allah? He said: it is to believe in the ultimate goodness of God.

Al-Qushayri said: When Allah made him [meaning the prophet Muhammad] ascend to the glory of His Presence and raised him over the high stars, gave him the title of servant (‘abd) to stress the importance of humility to the ummah.

The story of ascension has been mentioned in all books of Hadith, and was reported on the authority of the prophet’s companions in all Muslim regions. As a result, it is considered mutawatir, that is, widely reported.

It’s been narrated in the sahih, that Anas b. Malik said: that the prophet said:

The Buraq was brought to me. It is a tall white animal, little bigger than a donkey and smaller than a Mule. It travels in one step as far as the eye can see. He added; I mounted on its back until I arrived at the BaytalMaqdis. I tied it with a leash in the same place that apostles had previously done so. Then I entered the mosque and prayed two rak‘a. When I exited Jabril may peace be upon him came to me with two vessels; one of wine and one of milk. I chose milk. Jabril said: your choice matches the fitra, the natural state of purity. Then he ascended with us to heaven.

There is no divergence of opinion among Muslim scholars and historians that it was during this night that the prophet was informed that the prayer became obligatory.

In the following morning, the prophet told of his journey and what he saw. The Meccans started talking about the story, mocking the prophet and laughing at the idea. Then some of them challenged the prophet to describe to them the ruins of the old city of Jerusalem since he claims to have gone there and prayed in it. Immediately, Allah placed the image of the city before his eyes and he started describing it in details and with impeccable exactitude.

Both Bukhari and Muslim reported that the prophet peace be upon him said: “When Quraysh accused me of lying. I went to the ka’ba. Then Allah brought before my eyes the image of bayt al-maqdis, I started telling them its signs as I looked at them.”

Abu Bakr may Allah be please with him was informed of the story by some polytheists, hoping he will think it is unbelievable. He said: If the prophet said so, then is true. I will even believe him if he claims to have gone even beyond that. I believed that he receives revelation from heaven in the morning and evening, why would I not believe him in this regard. If he said, what you say he said, then he is right. This is why Abu Bakr was nicknamed al-Siddiq.

    Oh dear Muslim:

If we reflect on the prophet’s life and the events that took place in his life, we will realize that Allah has given him many miracles—which cannot be gainsaid—since it has been reported to us by sound chain of narration and through the mutawatir. All of these reports are conclusive.

The Arabic term al-mu‘jiza or miracle means an act that appears to violate the known norms of physics. Miracles are often granted to prophets.

The imam al-Nawawi, may Allah bless his soul, counted up to 1200 miracles in the introduction of his commentary on Sahih Muslim. We should also know that the prophet was given all the miracles given to other prophets. Any miracle that was granted to other prophets was given to the our prophet as well.

The greatest miracle of our prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam is the Holy Quran, God’s revelation in his own words. It contains knowledge and legislation, pertaining to iman, to Allah, His angels, His books, His prophets, and the Day of Judgment.

The miracles that were given to the prophet include: the water springing out of his fingers; increasing the volume of foods [at times of food shortage]; interacting with animals, trees and other objects; defeating his enemies by throwing sands into their faces; the crying of a trunk which he used to lean on when delivering his sermons; the splitting of the moon per the request of the nonbelievers.

He also returned the eye of Qutada b. al-Nu‘man during the battle of ‘Uhud after it had fallen on his cheek. He took it with his honourable hands and placed it back in its place, and said oh Allah make him handsome.

The most evident miracle is your own presence: Al- Haythami reported that Tamim al-Dari said: this religion will reach any place covered by day or night (meaning any place on earth). There will be no house of brick or wool, which this religion won’t enter regardless of the strength or weakness of Muslim leaders. This is something which Allah will make a source of pride for Muslims and a source of humiliation for the disbelievers.

Locals told news agency Kashmir Dot Com- (KDC) that shopkeepers in Srinagar markets have increased the rates upon their free will.

A consumer while taking to KDC said, “I usually buy vegetables from the Amirakadal market but vegetable vendors there have increased the rates by 15-20%.
