{"id":15278,"date":"2019-01-10T08:50:46","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T03:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/?p=15278"},"modified":"2019-01-10T08:50:46","modified_gmt":"2019-01-10T03:20:46","slug":"if-talks-with-taliban-why-not-with-hurriyat-ask-ex-cms-omar-abdullah-mehbooba-mufti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=15278","title":{"rendered":"If talks with Taliban, why not with Hurriyat, ask ex-CMs Omar Abdullah &amp; Mehbooba Mufti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><strong>Srinagar:<\/strong><\/i><i> Former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday questioned New Delhi\u2019s reluctance to initiate dialogue with separatists in J&amp;K when Army Chief General Bipin Rawat could advocate holding talks with the Taliban in Afghanistan.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said if the Army Chief could suggest talks with the Taliban \u201cthen why different standards when it comes to our own people?\u201d \u201cAccept peace offer from Pakistan, initiate dialogue with Hurriyat and other stakeholders to put an end to the vicious cycle of violence in J&amp;K,\u201d she said.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Earlier in the day, the Army Chief had said there should be negotiations with the Taliban in Afghanistan where the Islamist group is battling the US and government forces for nearly two decades.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The National Conference vice-president also voiced his concern and questioned the unwillingness of the Centre at launching political initiatives in the state. \u201cWe bat for talks with Taliban, autonomy for Tibet and Tamil areas of Sri Lanka, yet we are unwilling to look at engagement or political initiatives in J&amp;K,\u201d Omar said.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Omar said: \u201cWhy is our policy all about \u2018do as we say, don\u2019t do as we do\u2019?
