{"id":19085,"date":"2019-07-28T21:34:58","date_gmt":"2019-07-28T16:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/?p=19085"},"modified":"2019-07-28T21:34:58","modified_gmt":"2019-07-28T16:04:58","slug":"at-kashmir-hospitals-patients-not-treated-with-dignity-respect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=19085","title":{"rendered":"At Kashmir hospitals patients not treated with dignity, respect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><b>Srinagar: <\/b>Doctors\u00a0Association Kashmir (DAK) on Sunday said patients at Kashmir hospitals are not treated with dignity and respect.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cPatients feel alienated by the non-committal attitude and professional distance they encounter at hospitals in Kashmir,\u201d said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cFailure to take into account patients\u2019 concerns and expectations, lack of warmth and friendliness on part of doctors leave patients dissatisfied,\u201d he said.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cPatients recover their health simply through their contentment with the goodness of a physician,\u201d he added.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cKind words, compassion and empathy have equal hand in cure as much as medical competence does. But this need is often not met,\u201d Dr Nisar said.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He said patients are not treated with courtesy and doctors do not spend time in talking, listening and more importantly hearing them.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Dr Nisar said there are reported observations of doctors avoiding discussion on emotional and social impact of patients\u2019 problems which adversely affects their recovery.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cYou might have healed their physical illness, but hurt in their feelings by the interpersonal treatment they receive, Dr Nisar said adding that any treatment can be undone in just a few moments by the physician\u2019s wrong attitude.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He said in the past, hospitals were looked as most trusted friends, but there has been a steep decline in positive feelings about hospitals.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cLong wait times for consultations and long delays in procedures are provoking and frustrating for patients. They are left uncared for most of the time and attendants are forced to take care of their patients which otherwise is the duty of hospital staff,\u201d Dr Nisar said.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He said hospital environment is uncomfortable and distressing which is pushing patients in despair.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cUncleanliness, poor food and noisy environment are adding to the woes of patients.
