{"id":2101,"date":"2014-05-03T16:59:30","date_gmt":"2014-05-03T16:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir-today.net\/?p=2101"},"modified":"2014-05-03T16:59:30","modified_gmt":"2014-05-03T16:59:30","slug":"werent-allowed-to-offer-fateh-at-graveyard-family-of-slain-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=2101","title":{"rendered":"Weren&#8217;t allowed to offer &#8216;Fateh&#8217; at graveyard: Family of slain youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Police denies family claims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Srinagar:\u00a0<\/strong>The family of slain Old City youth\u00a0<span>Saturday<\/span>\u00a0said they were not allowed to offer Fateh (a post-funeral prayer) of their son at &#8216;martyrs graveyard&#8217; by police and paramilitary troopers.<\/p>\n<p>The family of Bashir Ahmad Bhat who was killed in \u2018armed forces\u2019 firing\u00a0<span>on Wednesday<\/span>\u00a0soon after the polling concluded, said that the police and Central Reserve Police Force came early in the morning and imposed curfew in of Gratabal Nov Kadal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, after seeing their mood, we couldn\u2019t even dare to ask them to allow us for offering Bashir\u2019s Fateh,\u201d Farooq Ahmad Bhat, his family member, said over phone, adding when we asked they refused.Bashir was buried at \u2018martyrs\u2019 graveyard\u2019 Eidgah, which is barely one kilometer away from Nov Kadal. He alleged that the tent which was installed by family was also removed by government forces. \u201cThey even removed the tent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Farooq added then we installed the tent in another locality, Arampora. \u201cThey allowed us to install tent at Arampora only after telling us that no loudspeaker should be used by you people or any disturbance should be created,\u201d he said. \u201cThey also thrashed two to three people.\u201dHe said due to government restrictions we could not install epitaph on Bashir&#8217;s grave.<\/p>\n<p>However, denying family\u2019s claim, the Superintendent of Police (SP) City North, Tahir Saleem Khan told GNS they didn\u2019t bar anyone from going to Eidgah. \u201cBut,\u201d he said, \u201cWhosoever felt that he can\u2019t reach the grave yard, he didn\u2019t go. But we didn\u2019t stop anyone.\u201d The officer also denied family\u2019s charge that they were forced to remove the tent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was curfew on main road but no restrictions were imposed from inner localities,\u201d he added.
