{"id":24638,"date":"2020-04-29T17:22:39","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T11:52:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/no-risk-of-covid-infection-from-dead-body-dak\/"},"modified":"2020-04-29T17:22:39","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T11:52:39","slug":"no-risk-of-covid-infection-from-dead-body-dak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=24638","title":{"rendered":"No risk of Covid infection from dead body: DAK"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThere is no evidence of a person being infected from the exposure to corpse who died from coronavirus,\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Srinagar:<\/strong> Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday said there is no risk to catch the infection from the bodies of persons who die from the novel coronavirus.<br \/>\u201cCadavers do not transmit disease,\u201d said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/dak-nisar-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19084\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is no evidence of a person being infected from the exposure to corpse who died from coronavirus,\u201d he said.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Nisar the main driver of transmission of COVID-19 is through respiratory droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes.<br \/>\u201cThere is no chance of spread of infection from a dead person. The dead person won\u2019t cough or sneeze,\u201d he said.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe virus doesn\u2019t survive in the human body after death,\u201d he added.<br \/>Dr Nisar said health care workers and family members should be sensitized that dead people cannot spread the novel virus and there is no reason to worry as long as standard precautions are followed.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor health care workers, mortuary staff and others handling bodies, these standard precautions involve wearing PPE,\u201d he said<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor family members, they involve not touching the body, wearing basic protective gear and not gathering in groups to pray,\u201d he added.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Nisar said persons preparing the deceased for burial should follow recommended standard protocols.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe belongings of the deceased do not need to be burned or otherwise disposed of.
