{"id":2592,"date":"2014-05-13T12:47:46","date_gmt":"2014-05-13T12:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir-today.net\/?p=2592"},"modified":"2014-05-13T12:47:46","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T12:47:46","slug":"if-we-inform-police-kashmir-freedom-movement-wouldve-been-over-panchayat-body-tells-geelani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=2592","title":{"rendered":"If we inform police, Kashmir freedom movement would\u2019ve been over: Panchayat body tells Geelani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar:\u00a0<\/strong>Reacting to Syed Ali Geelani\u2019s allegation that elected village heads were working as \u2018police informers\u2019, a Panchayat body in Jammu and Kashmir\u00a0<span>Tuesday<\/span>\u00a0said if the village council members worked for police Kashmir\u2019s freedom movement would have been over.<\/p>\n<p><span>On Monday<\/span>, the chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Geelani had called village heads \u2018police informers\u2019 and had asked them to resign en-masse \u2018so that a message could be given to the world that they support freedom struggle\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf 17000 Sarpanches and Panches in Kashmir are police informers according to Geelani \u2018Sahab\u2019 then we tell him that this resistance movement would have drowned,\u201d the spokesman of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Council, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, told GNS.<\/p>\n<p>He said the village heads also belong to Kashmir and Geelani\u2019s remarks are \u2018highly objectionable and sad\u2019. \u201cIt is very sad that Geelani labeled us police informers. We are not police informers. We too are Kashmiris and our kin and families have also sacrificed their lives for resistance movement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Questioning Hurriyat chairman, he asked: \u201cWeren\u2019t we part of this movement? Was Geelani alone running this movement?\u201d He said village representatives also accept that Kashmir is an \u2018issue\u2019 and it is yet to be resolved. He, however, said: \u201cWe believe in democratic setup of India and we do have ideological differences with Geelani.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are for development of our villages. Kashmir issue won\u2019t end by our participation in Panchayat elections. We are not against movement,\u201d he said everyone including India accepts Kashmir as a dispute.<\/p>\n<p>He called on village heads not to resign till new government takes charge in New Delhi. \u201cWe will go there after 17 and see how they will respond.
