{"id":26504,"date":"2020-06-01T17:22:57","date_gmt":"2020-06-01T11:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/no-increase-in-risk-of-covid-with-blood-pressure-medicines-dak\/"},"modified":"2020-06-01T17:22:57","modified_gmt":"2020-06-01T11:52:57","slug":"no-increase-in-risk-of-covid-with-blood-pressure-medicines-dak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=26504","title":{"rendered":"No increase in risk of Covid with blood pressure medicines: DAK"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Srinagar:<\/strong> Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Monday said blood pressure medicines do not increase the risk of infection, serious illness or death from the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is perfectly safe to continue your blood pressure medication during the Covid pandemic,\u201d said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople have apprehensions that ACE inhibitors and ARBs, two classes of drugs that are widely prescribed for high blood pressure increase the risk of Covid infection and the likelihood of severe illness among those infected with the novel virus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cACE inhibitors include enalapril, lisinopril, captopril and other drugs with generic names ending in \u2013pril; ARBs include Losartan, telmisartan, olmesartan and other generic drugs ending in \u2013sartan,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Nisar said speculations about worse outcomes among patients on these medications during the Covid pandemic have caused widespread anxiety among patients and their care providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quoting three studies published in New England Journal of Medicine, Dr Nisar said no link was found between the use of blood pressure drugs and coronavirus infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was also revealed that patients on these drugs faced no increase in risk of becoming severely ill with Covid infection,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Nisar said the articles showed no association between use of the two classes of blood pressure drugs of concern and dying from Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn fact, some studies suggest that these drugs might reduce lung injury in people infected with the novel virus,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Nisar said it is vitally important to keep your blood pressure well controlled and take medication as advised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHaving high blood pressure has been associated with higher rate of dying from Covid-19,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople should stick with their blood pressure medication because high blood pressure is a risk factor for heart attack, stroke and kidney failure,\u201d said Dr Nisar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Monday said blood pressure medicines do not increase the risk of infection, serious illness or death from the novel coronavirus. \u201cIt is perfectly safe to continue your blood pressure medication during the Covid pandemic,\u201d said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan. \u201cPeople have apprehensions that ACE inhibitors and ARBs, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":25312,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-26504","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-union-territory"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26504","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=26504"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26504\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=26504"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=26504"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=26504"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
