{"id":26979,"date":"2020-06-07T17:43:07","date_gmt":"2020-06-07T12:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/reopening-amid-surge-in-covid-cases-risky-doctors-association-kashmir\/"},"modified":"2020-06-07T17:43:07","modified_gmt":"2020-06-07T12:13:07","slug":"reopening-amid-surge-in-covid-cases-risky-doctors-association-kashmir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=26979","title":{"rendered":"Reopening amid surge in Covid cases risky: Doctors Association Kashmir"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>\u201cIf we reopen now we will be back into a situation where our only response would be another lockdown,\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Srinagar:<\/strong> With Kashmir valley witnessing surge in number of Covid-19 cases, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Sunday said reopening of economic activities in presence of high degree of virus transmission would be risky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReopening of activities while Covid is still circulating widely will accelerate virus transmission in the community which would be disastrous,\u201d said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.<br \/>\u201cIf we reopen now we will be back into a situation where our only response would be another lockdown,\u201d he said<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Nisar said the purpose of lockdown was to keep people away from coming into contact with each other, therefore curbing the spread of the virus.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith cases rising thick and fast, reopening would further deteriorate the situation, the effect of which could be worse than what has happened,\u201d he said.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Nisar said the vast majority of people are uninfected making them like dry kindling or a forest floor.<br \/>\u201cSudden relaxation of restrictions will supply new targets for the novel coronavirus,\u201d he said adding \u201cthe virus will keep burning until it runs out of fuel.\u201d<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Nisar said we understand the anxiety that our people are facing and are acutely aware of the economic and social impact of prolonged closure of various sectors. All of us want to get back to normal as soon as possible and to be able to see our friends and families.<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut, we are not in a situation to open it up because opening prematurely will result in more cases and we will have to shut down again,\u201d he said.<br \/>Dr Nisar said next few weeks are crucial.
