{"id":274,"date":"2014-03-20T15:03:00","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T15:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kashmir-today.net\/kamal-wants-police-to-allow-pro-freedom-leaders-carry-out-peaceful-election-boycott-campaign\/"},"modified":"2014-03-20T15:03:00","modified_gmt":"2014-03-20T15:03:00","slug":"kamal-wants-police-to-allow-pro-freedom-leaders-carry-out-peaceful-election-boycott-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=274","title":{"rendered":"Kamal wants police to allow pro-freedom leaders carry out \u2018peaceful\u2019 election boycott campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\"><b>Srinagar:<\/b> A senior National Conference leader&nbsp;Wednesday&nbsp;said Jammu and Kashmir police should allow the pro-freedom leaders to carryout &#8216;peaceful&#8217; election boycott campaign.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Additional General Secretary of ruling National Conference (NC) Mustafa Kamal said that the boycott call by pro-freedom leaders in Kashmir carries no weight and people will defy their call in upcoming elections.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Talking to GNS, Kamal, who is also the uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, said: \u201cIn democracy, the election is a process by which government is formed. The boycott call by resistance leaders is unnecessary and useless.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">He said that in the past people of Kashmir defied the boycott calls by resistance leaders and this time they will do the same. \u201cSee, in 2008 Assembly Elections, 2009 Parliamentary elections and in Panchayati elections, people came out and casted their vote. The voting percentage was high despite boycott call, and this time they will come again because they are the same people,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cthey (resistance leaders) are calling for boycott to save their nose.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">The National Conference leader urged police to allow resistance leader to \u2018peaceful anti-election campaign. \u201cPolice should not get worried,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Kamal, however, said that the resistance leaders should be only allowed to run boycott campaign \u2018as long as they remain peaceful\u2019. \u201cIt is their democratic right to run boycott campaign. But, if they resort to violence or create law and order problem, they should be dealt according to law,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">In a meeting held yesterday, police had reportedly formed the list of alleged \u2018troublemakers\u2019 which include many resistance leaders and activists &nbsp;\u2013who would be rounded up before elections in order to ensure smooth conduct of &nbsp;Parliamentary polls from next month.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Kamal claimed that elections are the sole way to solve day-to-day problems and issues of the people. \u201cPeople should vote and elect government so that their issues would get resolved,\u201d he said, adding: Elections won\u2019t affect Kashmir issue.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cKashmir is political issue and it needs a political solution. Elections aren\u2019t solution of Kashmir. It is not a referendum. Those who say that election is affecting Kashmir issue are actually misleading people,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">The NC leader praised Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for terming election a \u2018non-issue\u2019, while lashed out at Syed Ali Shah Geelani and termed him a \u2018threat to peace\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cMirwaiz understands that it is a non-issue and we also say it is a non-issue,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cKashmir is an international issue and everybody knows it.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cGeelani is a threat to peace in Kashmir. Wherever he goes, he disturbs peace and sparks violence. He is responsible for so many deaths in Kashmir and is never for peace,\u201d Kamal said.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cGeelani has no support in Kashmir. Nobody listens to him. When he went to Sopore, he himself said that stone-pelting hurts his cause but still nobody obeyed,\u201d the NC leader said, adding: \u201cempty vessels make much noise.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Agricultural Minister, Ghulam Hasan Mir, opposed the boycott campaign by pro-freedom leaders and termed it \u2018unconstitutional\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cElection process is constitutional and challenging this process is unconstitutional.
