{"id":31266,"date":"2020-08-14T12:23:40","date_gmt":"2020-08-14T06:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/?p=31266"},"modified":"2020-08-14T12:23:40","modified_gmt":"2020-08-14T06:53:40","slug":"jkpm-future-uncertain-after-faesals-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=31266","title":{"rendered":"J&#038;KPM future uncertain after Faesal\u2019s exit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>New party chief promises to stay the course<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Launched with a lot of fanfare with prominent, young faces 17 months ago, J&amp;K\u2019s youngest political party, the J&amp;K Peoples Movement (J&amp;KPM), is struggling to stay afloat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Days after IAS topper Shah Faesal announced his decision to quit politics, the other well-known face of the party Javaid Mustafa Mir, a former legislator and minister, also has quit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMany young faces are also leaving the party. These is a sense of disillusionment after Faesal\u2019s exit and his recent statements,\u201d a young party leader, who also quit the party, told The Hindu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Promise of change<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scores of youth were attracted to the party that pledged to \u201cfight corruption and push for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mumbai-based Kashmiri businessman-turned-politician, Feroze Peerzada, has taken over as the president of the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy first priority is to give confidence to those who joined the party because of (Bureaucrat-turned-politician) Faesal. We are trying to restore the party system. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not possible to reach out to masses on the ground. But we are intact as a party and will not dissolve it,\u201d Mr. Peerzada told The Hindu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, he also said, on hindsight, if the party leaders had had any inkling about the events of August 5, 2019, \u201cMe and Faesal may not have floated the party\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On rumours of Mr. Faesal returning to the civil services, Mr. Peerzada said, \u201cFaesal\u2019s passport was impounded following the slapping of the Public Safety Act (PSA) on him. If he is given the passport back and allowed to travel, his first priority would be to go abroad for studies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said Mr. Faesal is \u201calso hurt that no one came to his support the way he expected and shed tears with his family during his detention\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Peerzada said Mr. Faesal was a very popular across the country. \u201cAt a party in Mumbai, Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan praised his (Faesal) decision saying \u2018he is brilliant\u2019,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Unusual situation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disagreeing with the former IAS officer over \u201cpolitical parties not having much role now in J&amp;K\u201d post August 5, 2019, Mr. Peerzada said, \u201cTime heals every wound. It\u2019s a matter of time. We are hopeful statehood will be restored soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Peerzada said he has watched closely the working style of senior leaders like Sharad Pawar, Vilasrao Deshmukh during his stay in Mumbai. \u201cI have seen them working on the development agenda. Unfortunately, Kashmiri politicians don\u2019t have that quest.
