{"id":32905,"date":"2020-09-10T23:21:42","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T17:51:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/?p=32905"},"modified":"2020-09-10T23:21:42","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T17:51:42","slug":"serum-institute-pauses-covid19-vaccine-trials-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=32905","title":{"rendered":"Serum Institute pauses COVID-19 vaccine trials in India"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ptinews.com\/news\/11795918_Serum-Institute-pauses-COVID-19-vaccine-trials-in-India.html\">PTI<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Delhi<\/strong>: Serum Institute of India (SII) on Thursday said it is pausing clinical trials of AstraZeneca Oxford COVID-19 vaccine candidate in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this week, AstraZeneca said it had paused the trials because of &#8216;an unexplained illness&#8217; in a participant in the study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, SII on Wednesday said it was continuing with the trials and had not faced any issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ptinews.com\/pti_cms\/gall_content\/2020\/9\/2020_9$img_20209666-ll.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Photo Credit: PTI<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>SII&#8217;s latest announcement also comes against the backdrop of the central drug regulator DCGI issuing a show-cause notice to SII for not informing it about AstraZeneca pausing the clinical trials of the Oxford vaccine candidate in other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are reviewing the situation and pausing India trials till AstraZeneca restarts the trials,&#8221; SII said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pune-based vaccine maker also said it is following instructions of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>In the show-cause notice, DCGI V G Somani had asked SII as to why the permission granted for conducting phase 2 and 3 clinical trials of the vaccine candidate in the country be not suspended till patient safety is established.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PTI New Delhi: Serum Institute of India (SII) on Thursday said it is pausing clinical trials of AstraZeneca Oxford COVID-19 vaccine candidate in the country.
