{"id":33170,"date":"2020-09-16T23:38:21","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T18:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/?p=33170"},"modified":"2020-09-16T23:38:21","modified_gmt":"2020-09-16T18:08:21","slug":"china-says-india-violated-border-agreements-rebutting-rajnath-singh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=33170","title":{"rendered":"China says India \u2018violated\u2019 border agreements, rebutting Rajnath Singh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><em>Responsibility for the current situation does not lie with China, says China\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>China on Wednesday blamed India for \u201cviolating\u201d border agreements and said India bore responsibility for the recent tensions, a day after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament that China had, by amassing troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) this summer, violated the 1993 and 1996 boundary agreements that have helped keep the peace along the border for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe responsibility for the current situation does not lie with China,\u201d Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press briefing, in response to a question on Mr. Singh\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Asked why China had not yet disengaged and withdrawn its troops to the status quo as of April, prior to its transgressions, Mr. Wang said: \u201cThe most urgent and important task is for the Indian side to immediately correct its wrong course of action, disengage on the ground as soon as possible, and take concrete actions to promote easing of the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is the Indian side that has violated the agreements, first trespassed, and first fired shots to threaten the safety of the Chinese border troops,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>On the \u201cfive point consensus\u201d reached on September 10 by the two Foreign Ministers in Moscow, he said China \u201chopes India will work with China to follow through on the agreement and other previously reached agreements, and put the border issue in an appropriate position in the bigger picture of China-India relations\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported Chinese troops had last week \u201craised their combat readiness to the second-highest possible\u201d level after the firing of warning shots on September 7 near the south bank of Pangong Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The newspaper said \u201cthe alert was lowered after a meeting of the nations\u2019 foreign ministers\u201d in Moscow three days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second-highest of four levels of readiness prompts for increased deployments of troops to forward areas and stepping up of training exercises. The highest threat level is only for armed conflict. The newspaper said this was the first time the threat level had been raised to two along the border since 1987, during a stand-off in Sumdorong Chu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince the combat readiness level was raised, commanders, officers and soldiers have been working around the clock, carrying out extra training and drills,\u201d a military source told the newspaper. \u201cThe PLA (People\u2019s Liberation Army) mobilised more troops and weapons systems to the Line of Actual Control in preparation for the worst.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the alert level had now been lowered, the source told the paper \u201cit could be reinstated if circumstances changed\u201d. \u201cThe level can be decided by troops on the border, as happened before the 1987 skirmish, when it was adjusted several times,\u201d the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><em>With inputs from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/china-says-india-violated-border-agreements-rebutting-rajnath-singh\/article32623184.ece?homepage=true\">The Hindu<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Responsibility for the current situation does not lie with China, says China\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.
