{"id":35979,"date":"2021-01-12T18:27:46","date_gmt":"2021-01-12T12:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/?p=35979"},"modified":"2021-01-12T18:27:46","modified_gmt":"2021-01-12T12:57:46","slug":"brown-dog-go-home-indians-racially-abused-at-sydney-cricket-ground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=35979","title":{"rendered":"Brown dog, go Home: Indians racially abused at Sydney Cricket Ground"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The issue of racism, simmering since the first day of the third Australia-India Test at Sydney Cricket Ground, boiled over on Sunday when Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj, abused constantly by a section of the crowd while fielding on the boundary line, went up and complained to his skipper Ajinkya Rahane and on-field umpires. Play was halted for 10 minutes before tea break, police called in and six people were ejected from the stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The six told Siraj and fellow pacer Jasprit Bumrah, \u201c<em>You brown dog, go home. We don\u2019t like you\u201d<\/em>. The two had been called <em>\u201cmonkeys, wanker and motherf*\u201d<\/em> on Saturday following which Team India had lodged an official complaint with ICC, which is looking into the matter. On Sunday, Cricket Australia (CA) \u201cunreservedly\u201d apologised to the Indian team and launched a parallel probe with NSW police, promising to take the \u201cstrongest measures\u201d against anyone found guilty of vilification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/photo\/imgsize-159704,msid-80208335\/80208335.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>File Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese crowds have been free to come to the stadium and move around freely in Sydney, mouthing off. The Indian players have been subjected to all kinds of abuse at the same ground. The players are going through hell,\u201d said a member of the Indian contingent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Cricket Australia (CA) \u201cunreservedly\u201d apologised to the Indian team. \u201cAs series hosts\u2026 we assure them (Indian players) we will prosecute the matter to its fullest extent,\u201d CA head of security and integrity, Sean Carroll, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>India captain Virat Kohli, himself the victim of racial abuse on the boundary line in the past in Australia, tweeted: \u201cRacial abuse is absolutely unacceptable. Having gone through many incidents of really pathetic things said on the boundary lines, this is the absolute peak of rowdy behaviour. It is sad to see this happen on the field. The incident needs to be looked at with absolute urgency and seriousness and strict action against offenders should set things straight for once.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>An Indian team official said, \u201cWe will move on from this incident \u2014 like possibly many such incidents that former Indian teams or other sides from the subcontinent have been subjected to on tours over the years. Whatever this culture change that they (Aussies) harping about, fact it this (sort of abuse) comes naturally to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt just doesn\u2019t end. At airports, while leaving the hotel, inside the stadium, on the streets \u2014 somewhere you\u2019re going to get it. It\u2019s nobody\u2019s fault that some nameless, insensitive and vile human is going to let his or her tongue loose. But it\u2019ll happen and there\u2019s no running away from it.
