{"id":4149,"date":"2014-06-30T14:11:39","date_gmt":"2014-06-30T14:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir-today.net\/?p=4149"},"modified":"2014-06-30T14:11:39","modified_gmt":"2014-06-30T14:11:39","slug":"mercury-soaring-kashmir-kids-await-summer-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=4149","title":{"rendered":"With mercury soaring in Kashmir, kids await summer break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar:\u00a0<\/strong>With the scorching heat giving tough time to the people at large in Srinagar, no decision so far has been taken by the authorities over the announcement of the summer vacations for the school going children.<\/p>\n<p>Details have informed KNS that despite that rise in the temperatures and inadequate facilities at the government schools in valley, the decision over the summer holidays has been kept in limbo by the government here- giving tough time to the kids.<\/p>\n<p>Parents while expressing resentment over the silence of the department about the crises getting erupted due to the increase in day temperatures stated that no facilities are in place for their children at schools to beat the scorching heat. \u201cWhere are the authorities at present who keep on claiming to have the best infrastructure at schools. Our children faint when they reach home as no measures have so far been taken in the schools during the ongoing hot summers,\u201d said Mukhtar Ahmad, a Srinagar resident.<\/p>\n<p>Scores of other parents stated that little is being done on ground by the concerned department so that the children could study in conducive environs. Also there are no measures so far been taken to give a bit of relief to the school going children during the hot summer days.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Ramadan with most of the students on fasting, the authorities, according to the sources are yet to take the final call over the announcement of the summer break in valley.<\/p>\n<p>However, reports suggested that the education department has decided to announce the break after 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of the ongoing month.<\/p>\n<p>According to the met office the Srinagar city will remain partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures to be round 30\u00b0C and 15\u00b0C respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Relief from the scorching heat was earlier expected as the weather men\u00a0<span>Monday<\/span>\u00a0had predicted rains and thundershowers accompanied with strong winds at some places over Jammu and Kashmir. According to MET office reports, Kashmir valley witnessed much increase in the temperatures during the last few days with Sunday\u2019s temperature recorded as 31.6 degrees Celcius. In Jammu, the temperatures\u00a0<span>on Sunday<\/span>\u00a0were recorded as 33.7 degrees Celcius. The people of the region from the last several days are witnessing unabated increase in the temperatures. In Leh, the temperature remained 28. 2\u00a0<span>on Monday<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The state metrological department\u00a0<span>Monday<\/span>\u00a0maintained during the last 24 hours there is a possibility of light rain and thundershowers.<\/p>\n<p>Maximum and Minimum temperatures will be around 30\u00b0C and 15\u00b0C respectively in Srinagar. In Jammu, the weather department predicted rain and thundershowers. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 37\u00b0C and 29\u00b0C respectively. Ladakh will be partly cloudy sky.
