{"id":4498,"date":"2014-07-07T16:49:36","date_gmt":"2014-07-07T16:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir-today.net\/?p=4498"},"modified":"2014-07-07T16:49:36","modified_gmt":"2014-07-07T16:49:36","slug":"kashmir-youth-awarded-lifer-mumbai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=4498","title":{"rendered":"Kashmir youth awarded lifer in Mumbai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Srinagar:\u00a0<\/strong>A Mumbai court Monday awarded life sentence to a Kashmiri watchman earlier convicted of murdering and molesting a woman lawyer, Pallavi Purkayastha, reports said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: black\">Sajjad Aziz Pathan alias Mogal, 23, who hails from Uri in north Kashmir\u2019s Baramullah district, worked at the\u00a0<em>Himalayan Heights<\/em>\u00a0apartments when he \u2018stabbed to death\u2019 the 25-year-old woman Aug 9, 2012. The victim was the daughter of a senior bureaucrat couple.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: black\">According to reports, last week, Sessions Judge Vrushali Joshi pronounced Mogal guilty and said that \u201ca case of murder, molestation and criminal trespass has been proved\u201d against him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: black\">Meanwhile, the parents of the youth alleged that their son was fabricated in a false case and has been punished because he is a Kashmiri.\u00a0 \u201cHe is a Kashmiri and that is why he has been awarded lifer,\u201d his parents told GNS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: black\">\u201cLast year in\u00a0<em>Chillai Kalan<\/em>\u00a0we went there in last time. We asked everything him and also scolded him. But he told us that \u2018they are accusing me only because I am a Kashmiri\u2019. We trusted him,\u201d his father, Abdul Aziz Mughal said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: black\">Aziz said he went there twice to meet his son in prison. \u201cHe told us that his (lawyer\u2019s friend) used to fight with him. He also told us that on the night when she was murdered he was at his home and the police arrested him at Haji Peer Shrine\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: black\">On being asked whether they would appeal in High Court, the parents of the youth said: \u201cWe are very poor. We don\u2019t have money. Sometimes, we don\u2019t have money even for food.\u201d \u201cI have literally begged before lawyer to fight case of my son.
