{"id":49935,"date":"2022-01-12T16:49:10","date_gmt":"2022-01-12T11:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kashmir.today\/as-omicron-surfaces-in-kashmir-doctors-association-kashmir-advises-people-to-take-precautions\/"},"modified":"2022-01-12T16:49:10","modified_gmt":"2022-01-12T11:19:10","slug":"as-omicron-surfaces-in-kashmir-doctors-association-kashmir-advises-people-to-take-precautions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=49935","title":{"rendered":"As Omicron surfaces in Kashmir, Doctors Association Kashmir advises people to take precautions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Srinagar, Jan 12: <\/strong>With the detection of 5 cases of Omicron in Kashmir valley, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday advised people to take precautions to protect themselves from the new variant of Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSimple precautions would help prevent the spread of the variant,\u201d said DAK President and Influenza expert Dr Nisar ul Hassan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Hassan said people should continue wearing masks as they are effective at reducing the risk of contracting or spreading Covid-19 including Omicron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMasks act as barrier, trapping and filtering out virus particles from the air we breathe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf the infected person wears a mask, that reduces the risk of infection to those around them. If the uninfected person wears a mask, that reduces the risk of infection to them from the infected person,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DAK President said people are advised to avoid crowding and gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCrowding puts you at higher risk of getting Omicron and it increases the chances for the virus to spread in the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you are down with respiratory symptoms, self isolate and get tested,\u201d said Dr Nisar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf your test turns positive, report to the health authorities for tracing your contacts,\u201d he said adding contact tracing is an important tool to prevent the virus from spreading in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Secretary DAK Dr Arshad Ali said vaccine remains the single best tool against Covid-19 and its variants including Omicron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFully vaccinated people have significant protection against Omicron infection, serious illness and death,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThose who are unvaccinated should go and get it now. People who are eligible for boosters should take them as soon as possible to protect themselves, their families, loved ones and the community,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spokesperson DAK Dr Riyaz Ahmad Dagga said Omicron is more contagious than delta which devastated us in the second wave.
