{"id":5308,"date":"2016-10-01T13:19:27","date_gmt":"2016-10-01T07:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir.today\/?p=5308"},"modified":"2016-10-01T13:19:27","modified_gmt":"2016-10-01T07:49:27","slug":"kfa-urges-govt-keep-jawahar-tunnel-open-round-clock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=5308","title":{"rendered":"KFA urges Govt to keep Jawahar tunnel open round the clock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Chairman, KEF, Showkat Chowdhary, urged the government to keep the tunnel open round the clock so that \u201cno fruit laden truck remains stranded.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kashmir Economic Forum (KEF) has expressed serious concern over the losses being suffered by the horticulture sector in the Valley \u201cdue mainly to the government restrictions on the movement of fruit laden trucks at Jawahar tunnel.\u201d<br \/>\nChairman, KEF, Showkat Chowdhary, urged the government to keep the tunnel open round the clock so that \u201cno fruit laden truck remains stranded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe stranding of the trucks damages the fruit which causes losses to the growers and dealers,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nKEF said the horticulture forms the mainstay of the state economy and the government should provide every kind of support to the growers at this point in time when fresh fruits are being exported to outside mandis.<br \/>\n\u201cThe fruit has low shelf life and if the trucks are stranded unnecessarily at tunnel, the consignment would not reach to the dealers outside the state on time. The fruit would get damaged. By restricting the movement of the fruit laden trucks at Jawahar tunnel, government is spoiling the fresh fruits and the horticulture industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Chowdhary said the transporters are also charging higher rates to the growers because of the loss of time at the tunnel.<br \/>\nThe KEF Chairman said: \u201cThe valley growers toil hard during the year to ensure better crop.
