{"id":6185,"date":"2016-10-12T09:51:40","date_gmt":"2016-10-12T04:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir.today\/?p=6185"},"modified":"2016-10-12T09:51:40","modified_gmt":"2016-10-12T04:21:40","slug":"govt-infringing-rights-muslims-jih","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=6185","title":{"rendered":"Govt infringing on rights of Muslims: JIH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>New Delhi:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), one of the prominent Muslim organisations, has come out strongly against the government\u2019s stand on triple talaq, insisting that there should be no interference \u201cin the belief and religion of any citizen\u201d.<br \/>\nIn a statement, JIH chief Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari said Muslims consider divorce, polygamy and other personal laws as \u201can intrinsic part of their religion and are hence obliged to follow the Sharia in those matters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government should respect this position of Muslims, instead of conspiring to put an end to it,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nMaintaining that attempts to \u201cimpose\u201d a common civil code in the name of social reform and gender justice will prove \u201ccounterproductive\u201d, he said, \u201cThe Constitution guarantees the freedom to profess, practice and propagate one\u2019s own religion.\u201d<br \/>\nStressing that the government cannot force Muslims to follow other communities in issues related to personal laws, the Jamaat chief said it would amount to \u201cinfringement\u201d on their fundamental rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose clamouring against triple talaq and demanding a ban on polygamy are a minuscule minority and are not representative of the Indian Muslim community,\u201d he said, adding the government should respect this position of Muslims instead of \u201cconspiring\u201d to put an end to it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJamaat-e-Islami Hind completely stands by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board which is the authentic representative body of Indian Muslims,\u201d he said, adding all \u201cmajor\u201d Muslim organisations and a \u201cvast majority\u201d of the Muslim community stand solidly behind the Board and \u201cwill not accept any interference in their personal law.\u201d<br \/>\nAsserting that those who are trying to \u201csow the seeds of dissension among Muslims will never succeed\u201d, the Jamaat chief said, \u201cThe problem of triple talaq and polygamy has been blown out of proportion with the sole motive of portraying Muslims as being patriarchal and misogynistic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the question of triple talaq, the JIH President said, \u201cMost of the Islamic scholars accept pronouncement of triple talaq in one sitting as leading to a final and irrevocable divorce.
