{"id":706,"date":"2014-02-16T13:50:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-16T13:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kashmir-today.net\/one-billion-rising-in-valley\/"},"modified":"2014-02-16T13:50:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-16T13:50:00","slug":"one-billion-rising-in-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=706","title":{"rendered":"One Billion Rising in Valley"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>SRINAGAR:<\/b> Kashmir joined the International campaign of One Billion Rising Sunday aimed at raising voice against discrimination and injustices suffered by women in all walks of life and strongly condemning the same.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The campaign aims rise of one billion people across &nbsp;the world to stand up against the violence suffered by women across the globe.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">To observe the event, a creative display of painting and writing was organised in the lawns of Pirzoo Island Srinagar.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Khemlata Wokhlu, Chairperson Social Welfare Board visited the event and encouraged the participating youth and the organizers. She emphasized on the role of youth in catalyzing a positive change in the society \u2014 by raising their voice against discrimination and injustice \u2014 which women suffer, everyday.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe need to change in real sense and that is possible only when youth are emancipated and women empowered,\u201d she says on the occasion.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">She also encouraged the girl participants by quoting anecdotes from her life and told them how to act when deviants would taunt and tease them.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The campaign is set to mobilize hundreds of thousands of women, men and children across the world who are one with the struggle to uphold, respect and assert women\u2019s rights.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event was joined by impressive number of &nbsp;youth who expressed their concern about women\u2019s issues by writing their stories of discrimination and injustice, by sketching on the theme of \u201cviolence against women\u201d.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some participants also related their stories of struggle whereas few others &nbsp;compiled and read their poetry dedicated to women.
