{"id":82,"date":"2014-04-03T15:53:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-03T15:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kashmir-today.net\/cant-stop-sympathizers-from-voting-jamaat-chief\/"},"modified":"2014-04-03T15:53:00","modified_gmt":"2014-04-03T15:53:00","slug":"cant-stop-sympathizers-from-voting-jamaat-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=82","title":{"rendered":"Can\u2019t stop sympathizers from voting: Jamaat chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div><b style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Srinagar:<\/b><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Reiterating election boycott call, Kashmir\u2019s socio-religious organization Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI)<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Thursday&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;\">said that its cadre won\u2019t take part in upcoming parliamentary polls but the group can\u2019t stop sympathizers from voting.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Talking to GNS over phone from New Delhi, JeI chief, Muhammad Abdullah Wani said: \u201cThe Jamaat\u2019s Majlis-e-Shura (Central Advisory Council \u2013 the main decision making body of the party) has announced that the party won\u2019t participate in the upcoming polls. We have directed our cadre not to vote for any mainstream party as all of them are same for us.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Wani, however, said: \u201cThough we have called for boycott, but we can\u2019t stop those who are going to vote even if the person will be Jamaat\u2019s sympathizer.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Elaborating further, the Jamaat chief said:&nbsp; \u201cA Jamaat cadre is accountable to the organization but a sympathizer isn\u2019t.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">Wani, while reacting to National Conference leader, Mustafa Kamal\u2019s allegations that Jamaat will vote for Peoples Democratic Party in the elections, said: \u201cI don\u2019t know from where he gets such information. It is baseless and far away from the ground realities.\u201d<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cIn 2008, two Jamaat members from Doda had been found involved in casting their vote but strict action was taken against them,\u201d he informed.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">\u201cLast time we took part in elections under the banner of Muslim United Front (MUF) in 1987 but since then we haven\u2019t participated in any election,\u201d he said.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;\">He said Jamaat believes that long pending issue of Kashmir should be solved according to United Nations resolutions or tripartite talks between India, Pakistan and Kashmir.
