{"id":8837,"date":"2017-02-18T10:23:05","date_gmt":"2017-02-18T04:53:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir.today\/?p=8837"},"modified":"2017-02-18T10:23:05","modified_gmt":"2017-02-18T04:53:05","slug":"fir-filed-against-former-jnu-student-leader-for-insulting-prophet-muhammad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=8837","title":{"rendered":"FIR filed against former JNU student leader for \u2018insulting\u2019 Prophet Muhammad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>New Delhi:<\/strong> The Aligarh Muslim University Students\u2019 Union (AMUSU) has filed an FIR against former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students\u2019 Union (JNUSU) Vice-President Shehla Rashid Shora for allegedly disrespecting Prophet Mohammad in a Facebook Post.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cJNU student Shehla Rashid Shora made objectionable remarks against Prophet Mohammad in a Facebook post on January 9. She wrote insulting things about other religions as well,\u201d AMUSU member Ghazal Ahmed said in the complaint filed at the Civil Lines police station in Aligarh.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHer post has disturbed students and could spoil the atmosphere of AMU campus,\u201d the complaint further said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Rashid, however, denied the allegation, saying she had posted about some \u201cright-wing persons\u201d, who had abused her by making objectionable statements against the Prophet. \u201cThe post was about the hate speech in which I mentioned some right-wing trolls were abusing me by abusing the Prophet. If I\u2019m quoting those tweets as an example of abuse, how does it become my statement?\u201d she asked.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The AMUSU has also postponed the All India Students\u2019 Leader Meet scheduled to take place on Saturday, where Rashid and five other JNU students were invited. \u201cThe meet has been postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances and a fresh date will be announced shortly,\u201d the AMUSU said in a notice.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Rashid, who was also attacked in 2013 when some people took offence to her article published on an online portal, where she argued that Prophet Mohammad was a feminist, said that some people were trying to instigate AMUSU against her. \u201cI don\u2019t want to defend myself because anyone who is acting outraged has either not read the article or is trying to divert the attention from the Najeeb issue,\u201d she said. \u201cI refuse to allow myself to be targetted for giving a scholarly opinion on hate speech,\u201d she added.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Meanwhile, several JNU students came forward in Rashid\u2019s support. \u201cI read that post and then re-read it at the risk of being accused of the same thing that Shehla is being accused of right now, but I did not find it offensive at all,\u201d student leader Umar Khalid said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe \u2018hurt sentiments\u2019concept is largely used by the dominant majority to silence and even kill the minority communities.
