{"id":9047,"date":"2017-03-12T15:52:44","date_gmt":"2017-03-12T10:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kashmir.today\/?p=9047"},"modified":"2017-03-12T15:52:44","modified_gmt":"2017-03-12T10:22:44","slug":"president-dak-dr-nisar-ul-hassan-seeks-free-medical-tests-at-govt-hospitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kashmir.watch\/?p=9047","title":{"rendered":"President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan seeks free medical tests at govt hospitals"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong><em>It is painful to see poor patients leaving hospitals without treatment because they cannot afford the expenses of tests.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>Srinagar, March 12:<\/strong> Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today has sought free medical tests for patients at government-run hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir.<span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><br \/>\nPresident DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that free diagnostic tests and scans would bring huge relief to poor patients.<br \/>\nIt is painful to see poor patients leaving hospitals without treatment because they cannot afford the expenses of tests.<br \/>\nDespite the availability of latest equipment at government hospitals, patients are deprived of treatment because of financial constraints.<br \/>\nAll these advances are meaningless if patients cannot avail them.<br \/>\nPoor patients go to public hospitals with a hope that free treatment will be given to them.<br \/>\nBut government hospitals are no less than private hospitals when it comes to spending money.<br \/>\nThey charge hefty sums on diagnostic tests like CT and MRI scans.<br \/>\nThe contrast enhanced CT scan costs to the patient Rs 3700 and for CT angiography, patient has to pay Rs 4200.<br \/>\nFor contrast enhanced MRI and MR angiography, patient is charged Rs 3700 each.<br \/>\nPatient has to pay Rs 5,500 for coronary angiography which is done to diagnose blocked or narrowed vessels in a heart attack patient.<br \/>\nFrom simple tests like CBC, KFT, LFT, Lipid profile, thyroid function, urine examination to x-ray, ECG, Echo, USG and Endoscopy, patients are being charged.<br \/>\nWhile JK government has announced free drugs in government hospitals, but patients have to pay even for life-saving medicines.<br \/>\nIf someone gets a heart attack, he\/she has to pay Rs 30,000 for tenecteplase, a thrombolytic drug that dissolves clot in clogged arteries and restores blood flow to heart.<br \/>\nPoor have to end up on compromise in treatment as they cannot afford this costly drug.<br \/>\nPatients have to pay for high-end antibiotics that are unaffordable to poor patients and doctors end up prescribing less effective drugs to them.<br \/>\nDelhi government recently announced free diagnostic tests and drugs for all.<br \/>\nIf delhiites get free tests and drugs, why not people in JK?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is painful to see poor patients leaving hospitals without treatment because they cannot afford the expenses of tests.
