Pulwama, July 11: A top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Kaiser Koka, was among two militants killed in an encounter in Awantipora area south Kashmir’s Pulwama, officials said on Monday here. 
Terming his killing a major success for the security forces, a top official told Kashmir news service (KNS), that the notorious militant of JeM terror outfit identified as Kaiser Koka was active since 2018.
He said that the identification of 2nd terrorist being ascertained. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 USA made rifle (M-4 Carbine), 01 pistol and other materials have been recovered. He said the search operation was still going on. 
Earlier, officials said that as the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot during the operation, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately at it, which was retaliated effectively leading to a gunbattle (KNS).

An important issue that needs prior attention is the scientific disposal of the waste and offals

Let’s pledge this Eid-ul-Adha to keep our environment, especially water bodies clean by not littering and throwing sacrificial animal skins and other remains in them. Let’s demonstrate a true character and refrain from throwing the sacrificial wastes on roadsides or in rivers/lakes.

Let’s make an effort to dump them hygienically. The incharge of Mohalla Committees, Imams and youths are requested to encourage people not to throw it open. Youths needs to take the lead and keep a tight vigil that no waterbodies are being polluted again.

Srinagar, July 7: On the eve of Eid ul Azha a special meeting of the leading and founding members of Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir was held on Thursday and a unanimous resolution passed which will be read tomorrow at Friday prayer’s accross all major mosques and shrine , the resolution reads
1. The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema extends its heartfelt greetings to the Islamic World, especially the Muslims of Jammu & Kashmir, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, and appealed to them to to celebrate the  festival with simplicity in keepers with the islamic tradition and in view of the situation prevailing in J&K . On this occasion it urges people to extend all possible help to the poor and needy sections of society so that they too partake in the joys of Eid.
2. Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema expressing deep concern over the current social situation of Kashmir feels there is a dire need for all-round reform in society. The excesses at weddings and other celebrations are glaring and need to be curtailed . Following the sunnah in all matters and affairs of life is the way to follow, as the prophet (pbuh )has set the example for us .
The serious problems and difficulties faced by the people of Kashmir, especially by the youth, are a matter of great concern for all . Again these can be faced and resisted in the light of Islamic teachings.
3. Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema in this resolution again urges the rulers and administration not to cause obstruction in regarding the Friday prayers at the historical  Jama Masjid Srinagar, the largest place of worship in Kashmir so that the Muslims can seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT) at this great spiritual centre, without any hindrance.
4.Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema is deeply concerned and anguished over the arbitrary and illegal detention of its patron and the topmost religious leader of Kashmir Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq for the last three years, due to which all his responsibilities and dawah work has got suspended, which is highly regrettable and reprehensible.
As such, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema strongly urges the rulers and the administration to ensure the release of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir in view of Eid-ul-Adha and Qurbani so that he can carry out his centuries-old religious obligations and responsibilities as per the practice of his forefathers – the Mirwaizeen-e-Kashmir.

Srinagar, Jul 06: Ahead of Eid-Ul-Adha, camels have once again been put on sale in Kashmir.

Talking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Mushtaq Ahmad from Srigufwara in Anantnag said that he brought a camel for Rs 1.3 lakh from Rajasthan.

According to him, it was his dream to sacrifice a camel on Eid and this year his dream has come true.

Many dealers said that though the sacrifice of camels in Kashmir is very rare, the trend is increasing and more people are opting for camels instead of sheep and goats.

Ghulam Rasool, a butcher from south Kashmir said that he brought two camels a few days ago and has already sold one.

“If demand will increase, I will bring more camels,” he said

He said that camel meat is little less than that of sheep and goat.

Camels, popularly known as the ship of desert, for the past few years have become regular attractions ahead of Eid-al-Adha in Kashmir—(KNO)

Handwara July 6: A Four year old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in Rajpora Village of Handwara in North Kashmir.

Reports reaching KNS said that, the victim identified as Mehraz Azad Mir was at maternal uncle’s home in Rajpora village, when he was attacked by leopard and mauled to death.

The leopard dragged the boy to a nearby forest and his body was retrieved from the forest this evening by locals.

Police confirmed the death of the boy in the leopard attack.

Srinagar, July 06: Inspector general of Kashmir police (IGP) Vijay Kumar on Wednesday said that many lives can be saved if every parent will appeal to their militant sons to shun the path of violence.

Kashmir zone police, while quoting IGP Kashmir on its official Twitter handle said that many lives can be saved like two were saved today, if parents will appeal to their militant sons.

He said that whether they are trapped during live encounters or have joined militancy.

“If every parent appeal to their terrorist sons to shun the path of violence, whether they are trapped during live encounters or have joined the terrorism, many lives can be saved as in today’s encounter two lives were saved,” police tweeted.

Notably, two LeT militants surrendered during a live encounter in Kulgam today morning after an appeal by their parents and police.

Anantnag, Jul 6: Semi-decomposed body of a newborn baby was found abandoned in a river at Bidhard Kokernag of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district this afternoon.

Local sources told GNS that a baby was found by passersby inside Daksum river, upon which they informed police. A police team later on arrived at the site and took the body into its possession for burial.

The incident has in the meantime caused outrage among the people and have demanded stern action against anyone ‘who is in any way involved in the unfortunate incident’. (GNS)

Srinagar, Jul 05: Amid spread of fungal disease alternaria and leaf blotch, apple orchards are hit by premature fall of the fruit.

Growers in Kashmir told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they are witnessing such fruit fall in the months of June and July for the first time.

They said that every morning they see dozens of apples on the ground in orchards.

Mohammad Yousuf, an apple grower from Shopian said that there was bumper crop in his orchards spread over 10 kanals but premature fruit fall is becoming cause of concern.

He said that if fruit fall continues with the same speed then there won’t be any apples left on trees till harvesting season.

Abdul Rashid, another grower from Budgam said that on a daily basis he sees spread in his orchards.

Experts attribute multiple reasons to the fruit fall including stress caused by incessant rains followed by heat. Also, they said spraying plant growth regulators besides improper irrigation and nutrient management are other possible reasons—(KNO)

Srinagar, July 05: Meteorological department on Tuesday predicted widespread light to moderate rain in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

An official told that widespread light to moderate rain is likely to occur in J&K during the next 24 hours which will break the current heat wave.

He also said that there’s already lots of water in local streams and rivers, due to melting of glaciers and addition of rain water in these streams often generate flash floods and mudslide.

He advised the people to remain cautious and avoid venturing near such places which are vulnerable to flash floods.
