  • Covid-19: Now restrictions under 144 CrPc imposed in Pulwama

    Pulwama, March 19: In view of Coronavirus pandemic, District Magistrate Pulwama has ordered imposition of restriction on public Movement under section 144 in the district with immediate effect.

    The order followed amid the growing threat of coronavirus spread in Srinagar where a sexagenarian woman yesterday tested positive, making it the first case of covid-19 in Kashmir Valley.

    “Restrictions have been imposed on public movement, assembly, gathering or procession involving five or more than five persons in the entire district including villages and towns,” reads an order issued by the District Magistrate Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer.

    “The instances of spread of Novel Corona Virus across globe the situation has become a matter of great public concern and advisory has been issued in view of the situation by Government,” the order reads, a copy of which lies with GNS.

    The order reads that no public movement /assembly, gathering congregation or procession involving five or more than five persons shall be allowed in the district including towns and villages. It also reads that no public transport shall ply in the district till 31st March 2020 whereas Hotels, Restaurants, Gyms, parks and public places shall remain closed.

    Any violation by any person shall invoke penal action under Section 188 of IPC, the order reads.

    Moreover special Nakas have been established at all prominent places as a measure to restrict the movement of people. (GNS)

  • OPDs in tertiary care hospitals to operate for only emergency patients and people having symptoms of Coronavirus: Div Com


    Srinagar, March 19: Asking people to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurang Kondbarao Pole on Thursday said OPDs in tertiary care hospitals will operate only for emergency cases and patients having coronavirus symptoms.


    “People should restrain from visiting hospitals unnecessary. They can visit primary health centres and district hospitals for minor ailments. They should visit tertiary care hospitals only in emergency cases or patients having coronavirus symptoms,” Pandurang told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) over the phone.
    “OPDs in tertiary care hospitals will continue to operate but for only severely ailment patients and those having symptoms of coronavirus,” he said.


    The reports Thursday said that authorties have decided to close OPD section at SMHS hospital here amid growing threat of coronavirus spread in Srinagar where a sexagenarian woman yesterday tested positive, making it the first case of covid-19 in Kashmir valley.

  • Darul uloom Shah-e-Hamdan Tral gutted in fire incident

    Pulwama, Mar 19: Darul-Uloom Shah-e-Hamdan in Khachir Mohalla area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was gutted in fire incident during night.

    An official told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that fire broke out from the main building of religious institution in dead of night and in no time, it engulfed the whole building.

    A police party and Fire and Emergency Services department rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation, he said, adding that no one was injured in the incident.

    Students and teachers were rescued and shifted to safer places, however their belongings besides Library, Laboratory and other stationary items got completely damaged in the incident, he added.

    Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tral Shabir Ahmad Raina visited the spot today morning and assured head of the institution of compensation and time bound investigation about the incident —(KNO)

  • Transporters from South, North and Central districts asked not to enter Srinagar city

    Srinagar, Mar 16, KNT: Regional Transport Office Kashmir has imposed a blanket ban on the transport services in Srinagar and has asked transporters from South, North and Central Kashmir to refrain from entering into Srinagar.


    The order has been issued in wake of Coronavirus threat.


    RTO Kashmir, Ikramul Tak, issued a circular, a copy of which lies with KNT that reads that to mitigate the transmission of Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmri, it is hereby ordered that no bus service, mini-bus service, maxi-cab service, auto passenger service shall ply in district Srinagar with immediate effect till further orders.


    “Further no public transport shall enter into district Srinagar from the North, South or Central districts of Kashmir Division.”

  • Coronavirus: Authorities seal restaurant for violating orders

    Srinagar, March 19 (GNS): With government of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory declaring the COVID-19 as pandemic, authorities on Thursday sealed a restaurant in Bagath area of Srinagar district in violation of of order.

    An official told GNS that the Srinagar administration has sealed the Cottage Inn Restaurant located at Baghat for violating closure orders. “Officials on ground across the district to ensure strict implementation of orders issued under the disaster management act to prevent spread of coronavirus infection”.

    He said that a case has been registered in this connection. (GNS)

  • Coronavirus: SMHS hospital closes OPD

    Srinagar, March 19: Authorities on Thursday decided to close OPD section at SMHS hospital here amid growing threat of coronavirus spread in Srinagar where a sexagenarian woman yesterday tested positive, making it the first case of covid-19 in Kashmir Valley.

    Official sources told GNS that the decision to close Out Patient department (OPD) section at SMHS hospital has been taken to stem the spread of coronavirus.

    Principal GMC Srinagar Dr Samia Rashid when contacted by GNS said that she was in a meeting and “would talk about it later.”

    Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital Dr Nazir Choudhary did not give a clear reply and told GNS that “the one who visited the hospital was seen.” He dropped the call even as a number of doctors at the hospital confirmed to GNS that the OPD facility was closed in “right earnest to prevent spread of the coronavirus and that people should cooperate.” (GNS)

  • 78 persons from Leh quarantined, 40 students from England, Bangladesh being screened

    Srinagar, March 19: Seventy-eight passengers of an Air India Leh-Srinagar flight were quarantined on their arrival here on Thursday, officials said. However, a decision is awaited as regards nearly forty students who are being screened at the Srinagar airport on their arrival from England and Bangladesh respectively.

    Officials told GNS all passengers arriving from Leh at the airport have to undergo mandatory quarantine as such they were taken to quarantine facilities set up by the authorities in Srinagar. “There were protests by some of them, demanding they should be allowed to go home after proper screening,” sources said. However, the officials said that all of them were moved to quarantine facility, set up at different places, as part of the already announced procedure to arrest the spread of the coronavirus.

    Regarding the 40 odd students who arrived from England and Bangladesh, the officials said that “decision was awaited” whether or not they will be allowed to go home or they too will be moved to quarantine. “Presently their screening is being done,” they said. (GNS)

    Srinagar, March 19: In view of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) scare and advisories issued by various Government agencies, the University of Kashmir on Thursday announced a series of preventive measures including suspension of all administrative & academic activities upto March, 28, 2020.

    In this connection an order No : L(COVID-Closure)/REG/KU/20 dated :19/03/2020 issued by Registrar KU Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir reads “All administrative and academic activities across campuses of University shall remain suspended initially upto 28th March, 2020. However, employees associated with essential services including electricity, water works, sanitation & hygiene, landscape maintenance, health centre and Proctorial/Watch & Ward wing shall continue to report to their respective duties.”

    The order further reads “In view of the closure of Financial year 2019-20 the employees associated with the Accounts/Finance Wing including office of the Dean Research of the University shall also continue to report to their duties.”

    According to the order all interviews and M.Phil/Ph.D Viva Voce Examinations scheduled till 31st March, 2020 are postponed.

    However it adds “wherever the postponement of M.Phil/Ph.D Viva Voce examinations is unavoidable, same may be conducted through Skype and no outside expert be invited to the University upto March 31st 2020.”

    Moreover the order clarifies that “all employees however shall ensure that they are accessible through their Mobile phones and shall provide home inputs/report to their duties as and when called for.”

    Meanwhile in the academic interest of the candidates , the date for submission of application forms for PG and BA-LLB programs session-2020 invited under admission No: F(PG Admission-20) DACE/KU/20 dated 10.03.2010 has been extended upto and including April,07,2020.

    According to a notification issued by Assistant Registrar Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examinations KU the last date of submission of online application forms as well as the last date of submission of hard copy of application forms in respect of candidates applying under any reserved category has been extended upto 07-04-2020 (working days only).

    Earlier on Wednesday in a statement issued by the varsity all examinations both at PG & UG level including Regular/Private/Backlog/Fresh private/Division improvement/Mercy chance and internal assessment which were scheduled to be held upto and including March, 31, 2020 were postponed. The University has already ordered suspension of class work across all its campuses upto March 31, 2020.

  • Govt cancels leaves of medical staff

    Srinagar March 19: In the wave of coronavirus scare, the government has canceled leaves of medical staff and directed them no to leave stations without prior permission from the concerned authorities.
    Sources told Kashmir Indepth News Service that the government has communicated to Director Health Services Kashmir, Jammu, GMC principals, Director SKIMS Soura to cancel leaves of all health staff including medical superintendents, doctors, contract workers at all hospitals. However, the concerned authorities have been told to sanction leaves only in emergency cases.
    They have also been told not to leave the stations without prior permission from the concerned authorities. (KINS)
