  • Hyderabad | Man gets rigorous life imprisonment for life for sexually abusing minor girl

    Hyderabad: A local court on Monday sentenced a 46-year-old man to rigorous life imprisonment for sexually abusing a four-year-old girl.

    The First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Suneetha Kunchala found the man guilty under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment.

    The court found the man guilty also under different IPC sections and awarded the rigorous imprisonment ranging from three-10 years.

    It imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 and said the sentences will run concurrently.

    According to the prosecution, the city police received information on December 17, 2015, that the accused committed an unnatural offence and sexually abused the girl. The act was recorded in a CCTV camera at his house.

    The girl lived in the house rented out by the accused to her parents.

  • 5 more COVID-19 deaths in Ladakh, toll rises to 14

    Leh: Five more patients died of coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the death toll due to the disease in the union territory to 14, officials said on Monday.

    Kargil district recorded four new deaths, while one COVID-19 patient breathed his last in Leh, the officials said.

    So far, Kargil has reported eight deaths due to the disease and Leh six.

    As of Sunday evening, the number of cases in Ladakh stood at 1,948, of which 1,005 infections were in Kargil and 943 in Leh, the officials said.

    They said 70 per cent of the total patients have been cured of the disease and subsequently discharged from hospitals.

    The union territory now has 578 active COVID-19 cases — 350 in Leh and 228 in Kargil district.

  • 10th,11th & 12th Class Annual Session 2020 Exams likely to be held in November 2020: JKBOSE

    Srinagar: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have said that annual examination for 10th, 11th and 12th will be held in month of November 2020.

    In a notification issued by Director Academics Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer has said that there will be 30 percent syllabus relaxation in annual examinations of 10th, 11th and 12th classes which is scheduled to be held in November 2020.

    “It is notified for infomation of all the concemed that, in view of prevailing Covid-19 Pandemic, the following concession shall be awarded to the students of classes 10th, 11th and 12 Annual, Regular appearing in the forthcoming Examinations likely to be held in the month of November 2020 in Kashmir Division and Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division while in March 2021 for Summer Zone Areas of Jammu Division, as onetime measure, reads an official order while adding that the students appearing in these examinations shall have to attempt only 70% marks from the question papers which shall be treated as 100% at the time of evaluation and he score of students attempting less than 70% from the question paper shall be raise proportionately.

    The students should note that question papers will be set from the entire syllabus
    prescribed for the session, the order adds.

    Mentioning that instead of attempting all the questions the student has to attempt only 70% questions, thus there is resultant concession of 30%

    Explanation: For students appearing in subjects having no practical courses, the
    question paper is of 100 marks and the student has to attempt questions with a total of 70 marks, while for all such subjects which have both theory and practical components the concession will apply to theory part only.

    For example in Physics, Chemistry and Biology that have a practical component of 30 marks and theory question paper of 70 marks, the students shall have to attempt 49 marks out of 70 marks only, which will be treated as 100% (70 marks)

    For other papers having different marks scheme for theory papers the student shall have to attempt 70 of marks allotted to the theory paper and for further clarification, queries can be mailed to [email protected], It adds. (PTK)

  • Cases filed after communally sensitive videos went viral in Jammu

    The J&K police on Sunday filed cases for uploading communally sensitive videos online and beating up of a local resident by cow vigilantes, as the political parties demanded action against those seen in them.

    “An incident involving a video of communally sensitive nature has gone viral on social media which seems to have been maliciously posted to create communal tension. Cognizance has been taken and investigation into the matter has started in the Pacca Danga police station, Jammu, to ensure strict action,” said IGP, Jammu, Mukesh Singh, in a statement.

    “Satpal, the main speaker in the viral video, and Deepak, who circulated the video, have been arrested,” IGP Singh told The Hindu.

    An FIR under Section 153A and 295A have been lodged against them.

    Mr. Singh requested people “not to fall prey to the agenda of anti-social elements”. “Sharing and posting of such content in punishable offence. We assure strict legal action against such accused who have created or shared such content,” he said.

    Guftar Ahmed, spokesman of the Gujjar Bakarwal Youth Welfare Conference J&K, said two incidents took place in Jammu’s Reasi in the past 24 hours. In one incident, some hate mongers almost lynched Muhammad Asghar, he said.

    According to locals, Asghar was attacked by a group of cow vigilantes while he and his son were heading for a pastureland with their cattle.

    “Will the government please come out with a response? Has any action been taken as it appears that someone in khaki uniform was on spot?” Peoples Democratic Party leader and ex-Minister Naeem Akhtar said.

    Senior SP, Rashmi Wazir, said two FIRs have been lodged in a case where Asgar’s son “hurt the sentiments of a community by injuring a cow with a sharp-edged object” and “another in a case where people attacked Asghar”.

    Indu Chib, deputy commissioner, Reasi, also tweeted, “I will not allow anyone to disturb peace of my district. Anyone forwarding this video on social media shall be booked as well.”

  • Militants attack security forces, three killed in Baramulla

    Srinagar: Two CRPF jawans and a policeman were killed in a militant attack in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, police said.

    Militants attacked a security forces party at a ‘naka’ in Kreeri area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir this morning, a police official said.

    He said two CRPF personnel and a special police officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed in the firing.

    Security forces have cordoned off the area and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants.

  • Militants attack Naka party in Baramulla, SPO killed, two CRPF personnels injured

    Srinagar: An SPO was killed, and two CRPF personnels were injured after suspected militants on Monday morning attacked joint Naka party in Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

    A senior police officer told GNS that militants fired upon the Naka party. The fire was retaliated by forces triggering an brief exchange of firing.

    During exchange of firing one SPO identified as Muzaffar Ahmad was killed and two CRPF troopers were injured and subsequently shifted to nearby hospital, the officer said.

    The officer further said that there are chances of encounter as the militants have been surrounded by forces.
