  • Don’t pick calls from international numbers, it’s a scam: Cyber Police Kashmir to people

If people get missed calls from unknown international no’s don’t respond, follow twitter handle, FB account of Cyber Cell for safety precautions: SSP Cyber Cell Tahir Ashraf

Srinagar, June 09: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir police Tuesday sounded an alarm over the “one ring phone scam” urging people of Kashmir not to return missed calls or to respond to the calls from unknown international numbers. The Cyber wing termed it as “global scam, which has got active for Kashmir also” where scammers give missed calls to people, to irritate them and engage them in long conversations to make huge bucks.

Talking exclusively to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Cyber Police Cell Kashmir, Tahir Ashraf said that just a day after “one ring phone scam” stepped into Kashmir, they got active and started taking measures to counter the same.

“We have issued an advisory for the people how to deal with the scam,” he said. The advisory issued by the Cyber wing reads: “If your phone rings once and then stops. If this happens to you and you don’t recognize the number, do not return the call. You may be target of a one ring phone scam.”

The advisory further reads that one ring call may appear to be from the international number. For countering the scam, the advisory states that “don’t answer ore return any calls from number you don’t recognize, report that number as a spam. Before calling unfamiliar number, check to see if the area code is international. Always be cautious, even if a number appears authentic.”

The SSP Cyber Cell said that it is a global scam active across the world where scammers engage people for long durations to make easy money. “Since international calls are costly, the scammers engage people and earn money. By engaging people for long durations over phone, they can access bank accounts and steal the money as well as phone numbers are linked with the banks of the people across Kashmir,” he told KNO

He said if people counter this issue, they should immediately contact their service providers to ensure that the number is marked as a spam. “People of Kashmir should also follow twitter handle and Facebook account of Cyber Cell J&K police for regular updates about how one ring scam can be countered effectively,” the police officer said—(KNO)

  • Understanding a Woman

It’s really very difficult to understand a woman – actually it’s not she but he who is confused
    Amit Abraham

Following is an incident which happened in UAE where a Wife sought divorce because husband loves her a lot, doesn’t argue with her…

If one argument could save a marriage, this is it. But the fawning husband cooked, cleaned, swept and loved his wife passionately. Completely. She in turn felt choked by his affection and now wants to divorce him.

The woman sought divorce from her husband at the Shariah court in Fujairah because his love was too much for her to bear.

“He never yelled at me or turned me down,” the woman, a Gulf national, told the court.

“I was choked by extreme love and affection. He even helped me clean the house.”

He sometimes cooked for her and there were no disputes in their year-long marriage, she said.

The wife complained that her life turned “hell” because the man was so kind to her.

“I long for one day of dispute, but this seems impossible with my romantic husband who always forgave me and showered me with gifts.

“I need a real discussion, even an argument, not this hassle-free life of obedience.”

The husband said he did nothing wrong. “I wish to be a perfect and kind husband,” he said.

She once complained about his weight, so he went on a strict diet and exercised to get back in shape, only to suffer a fracture in the leg for his efforts.

The husband asked the court to advise his wife to withdraw the case.

“It’s not fair to judge a marriage from the first year, and everybody learns from their mistakes.”

The court ordered the adjournment of the case to give the couple a chance at reconciliation.

  • Have the Chinese occupied Indian territory in Ladakh, Rahul Gandhi asks Rajnath Singh

A tweet from former Congress chief on Monday on the border situation started off an exchange between Congress leaders and the Defence Minister on social media

Moving away from a poetic engagement, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday posed a direct question to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh if Chinese troops had occupied Indian territory.

“Once RM [Raksha Mantri] is done commenting on the hand symbol, can he answer: Have the Chinese occupied Indian territory in Ladakh,” asked Mr. Gandhi on Twitter.

“Denigrating Party Symbols of Opposition isn’t same as ‘Defending India’. Will @rajnathsingh ji answer the simple question posed by Sh. Rahul Gandhi,” asked Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

A tweet from Mr. Gandhi on Monday on the border situation started off an exchange between Congress leaders and Mr. Singh on social media.

“Everyone knows the reality of the seema [borders] but Shah-yad [perhaps] the thought is good to keep one’s heart happy,” Mr. Gandhi tweeted by tweaking a famous Urdu couplet of Mirza Ghalib as well as the Home Minister’s surname.

Mr. Gandhi’s tweet on Monday morning was to take a dig at Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim at a digital rally on Sunday where he had said India’s defence policies were globally acknowledged and “after U.S. and Israel, if there is any other country that is able to protect its borders, it is India”.

Late on Monday evening, Mr. Singh responded with another Urdu couplet but took a dig at the Congress party’s symbol.

“If there is pain in your hands, apply medicine. But when hands itself become the source of pain, then what do you do?” tweeted Mr. Singh over the Congress leader’s comments.

Mr. Surjewala then got into the fight with yet another couplet.

“Dear Rajnath ji, When we pose a question, then questions are asked. Those in power question our language. We are India. We want to see you use the force in your hands to answer those who show us a red eye,” Mr. Surjewala replied to the Defence Minister.

  • West Indian cricketers depart for 3-test tour of England

    PTI | AP

St John’s (Antigua): The West Indies cricket team departed from Antigua for a three-test tour of England with the entire touring party based in the Caribbean having returned negative tests to COVID-19.

Earlier on Monday, two planes collected players from various islands in the West Indies and they joined a private charter which is due to arrive in Manchester on Tuesday morning.

West Indies Cricket said in a statement Monday that on arrival at Old Trafford in Manchester, the entire touring party will be quarantined and tested again for COVID-19 as they begin the seven-week tour where they will live, train and play in a “bio-secure” environment.

Those protocols will restrict movement in and out of the venues, so a group of reserve players will travel to train and help prepare the test squad and ensure replacements are available in case of injury.

There will be no spectators allowed at the three tests which are being played over just 21 days starting July 8 in Southampton and at Old Trafford from July 16-20 and again from July 24-28.

The venues were chosen because they had hotels attached or nearby and could be turned into bio-secure environments.

The original tour was scheduled for May and June but was postponed due to coronavirus restrictions.

“This is a huge step forward in cricket and in sports in general as we travel over to England for this series,” captain Jason Holder said.

“A lot has gone into the preparations for what will be a new phase in the game.”

West Indies test squad: Jason Holder (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich, Chemar Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Raymon Reifer and Kemar Roach.

Reserve Players: Sunil Ambris, Joshua DaSilva, Shannon Gabriel, Keon Harding, Kyle Mayers, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley, Shayne Moseley, Anderson Phillip, Oshane Thomas and Jomel Warrican.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Centre and state governments to send all the migrant workers to their native places within 15 days and formulate employment schemes after conducting their skill mapping to rehabilitate them.

A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M R Shah also directed the Centre to provide additional trains within 24 hours of states making the demand for sending the migrant workers back to their native places.

The bench also directed the authorities to identify and register migrant workers who want to go back to their native places and conclude the exercise, including their transportation within 15 days from Tuesday.

The bench, which posted the matter for further hearing in July, said the schemes for welfare and employment of migrant workers should be publicised adequately.

The top court had on June 5 reserved its order on the suo motu case registered on the plights of migrant workers during the coronavirus-triggered lockdown period.

  • AMU to conduct online open book exams for final semester

    PTI

Aligarh (UP): The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to conduct online open book exams for all final semester papers of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, according to a spokesman of the university.

However, a section of the teaching staff has voiced concern over the idea of online exams, contending that the method is “discriminatory and flawed”.

The AMU’s decision follows the Delhi University’s move to hold open book exams.

An AMU spokesman said, “Final semester examinations for UG and PG classes will be held after July 10 and the schedule will be announced shortly. It has also been decided that those papers of the first semester which had not been held earlier will also be conducted through the same manner between July 5 and 10”.

Following the decision, a section of teachers have written a letter to the Vice Chancellor.

In the letter, teachers’ elected representative to the university’s executive committee, Prof Aftab Alam, said the decision to hold online exams violates the statutes of the institution and any decision to hold online exams has to be preceded by certain mandated procedures.

The letter points out that all students may not have proper access to Internet facilities in the present scenario.

Meanwhile, all university offices, which reopened on Monday, reported full attendance.

Employees, who are senior citizens or those who reside in coronavirus containment areas, have been exempted from attending office.

The statue, which is across the road from the Indian Embassy, was vandalised on the intervening night of June 2 and 3, prompting the Indian embassy to register a complaint with the local law enforcement agencies.

The incident happened during the week of nationwide protests against the custodial killing of Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.

It was a disgrace, Mr.Trump made the brief comment at the White House on Monday when asked about the incident.

The Indian Embassy here has taken up the matter with the U.S. Department of State for early investigation into the matter, as also with the Metropolitan Police and National Park Service.

It is working with the US Department of State, Metropolitan Police and National Park Service for expeditious restoration of the statue at the park.

The U.S. President and First Lady Melania Trump, during their visit to India in February, had spent considerable time at the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had personally given them a tour of the historic place.

“The First Lady and I have just had a pleasure of visiting Mahatma Gandhi’s Ashram, a few miles from here, where he launched the famous Salt March, “ Mr. Trump had said during his address at the Namaste Trump rally at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 24. A day later, Trump and the first lady also laid a wreath at Raj Ghat in New Delhi.

Pictures of Mr. Trump and the first lady with Gandhi’s spinning wheel during their visit to the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad are seen hanging on the walls of the White House.

“Very disappointing, tweeted Kimberly Guilfoyle, advisor to Donald J Trump for President Inc. and National Chair of the Trump Victory Finance Committees.

North Carolina Senator Tom Tillis said, “It’s disgraceful to see the defacing of the Gandhi statue” in Washington DC.

Gandhi was a pioneer of peaceful protesting, demonstrating the great change it can bring. Rioting, looting and vandalising do not bring us together, he said.

    ‘Legitimate protests hijacked’

Senator Marco Rubio said, more evidence that violent radicals and run of the mill crazies have hijacked legitimate protests to create anarchy or for their own purposes.

Protests against the custodial killing of Floyd turned violent in the U.S. and prestigious monuments were damaged. In Washington DC, protestors burnt a historic church and damaged monuments like the Lincoln Memorial.

US Ambassador to India Ken Juster apologised for the incident.

“So sorry to see the desecration of the Gandhi statue in Wash, DC. Please accept our sincere apologies, he said.

Appalled as well by the horrific death of George Floyd and the awful violence and vandalism. We stand against prejudice & discrimination of any type. We will recover and be better,” he said in a tweet last week.

One of the few statues of a foreign leader on a federal land in Washington DC, the statue of Gandhi was dedicated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the presence of the then U.S. president Bill Clinton on September 16, 2000, during his state visit to the US.

  • Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked For Third Straight Day

In Srinagar Petrol prices hiked to ₹ 77.76 and diesel ₹ 69.60 per Litre

Petrol and diesel prices were hiked for a third straight day in metros on Tuesday, as state-owned oil marketing companies reverted to the normal practice of daily price revisions after a gap of 83 days. In Delhi, the price of petrol was increased by 54 paise per litre and diesel by 58 paise per litre with effect from 6 am on June 9. The price of petrol in the national capital was revised to Rs 73 per litre compared to Rs 72.46 per litre the previous day, and that of diesel to Rs 71.17 per litre from Rs 70.59 per litre on Monday, according to notifications by state oil marketing companies.

International oil prices rose a day after plunging more than 3 per cent, following an agreement by top producers to extend supply cuts. Brent crude futures – the global benchmark for crude oil – added $1.13 to $41.25 per barrel.

State-run oil marketing companies revise the prices of petrol and diesel from time to time, besides aviation turbine fuel (ATF) – or jet fuel – and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). However, since March 16, the oil companies had kept petrol and diesel prices on hold, possibly due to the volatility in global oil markets.

Fuel retailing in the country is dominated by state refiners – Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation.

The three own about 90 per cent of the retail fuel outlets in the country.
