  • Pakistan will be dangerous if they enter semis: Waqar Younis

In an inspiring run similar to their 1992 World Cup-winning campaign, Pakistan have won three consecutive games to be alive in the ongoing 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. The Green Brigade had climbed to the fourth spot in the points table before England’s 31-run win over India on Sunday pushed the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side a place down.

With a game left, Pakistan still have a chance of making it to the knockouts and former skipper Waqar Younis feels if Sarfaraz’s team enter the semis, they would be the most dangerous side.

Waqar, however, also pointed out that Pakistan will not only have to win but should also raise the bar in their last league game against Bangladesh.

“It is actually becoming quite scary at this point! Is history repeating itself? I have no idea but if Pakistan do make the semi-finals then they are going to be such a dangerous side. For that to happen they will need some results to go their way, but most importantly of all they will have to beat Bangladesh,” Waqar wrote in his ICC Column.

“To beat Bangladesh they will have to play better than they managed against Afghanistan. The win over Afghanistan on Sunday was not the performance of champions and yet, somehow and some way, they are still in contention for a semi-final spot and you can never write them off,” he added.

The 47-year-old also credited bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim for Pakistan’s three-wicket win over the winless Afghanistan on June 29.

“We were so lucky to escape and survive and still be floating in this World Cup, really it was thanks to Imad Wasim. Unfortunately it has always been this way for Pakistan, we don’t seem to be able to find that collective consistency,” he expressed.

“But there is no doubting the individual pure talent in our country, look at a guy like Imad who won us that game,” Waqar added.

He also suggested that the team management shouldn’t make much changes in the Pakistan playing eleven and should stick to the winning combination. Waqar also felt that despite opener Fakhar Zaman struggling with the bat, he should be given more chances.

“We appear to have found a perfect XI at last, and I hope they (team management) don’t tinker with it anymore. Fakhar Zaman has had a poor tournament but I don’t think it would be right to drop him now,” expressed the former Pakistan skipper.

“He (Fakhar) should be given every chance to come good, and at the same time, just think how much pressure that would put on the player coming into the side at such an important time,” he backed the opener adding: “Look at the other teams doing well in this World Cup and they are making very few changes.”

Placed fifth with nine points, Pakistan will not only have to register a win against Bangladesh on July 5 but at the same time, will hope that hosts England lose their last league match against New Zealand as it would boost their chance of entering the semis.

  • Be like Zaira Wasim: Hindu Mahasabha chief Swami Chakrapani’s advice to Hindu actresses

SRINAGAR, (PTK): Hindu actresses should take inspiration from ‘Dangal’ star Zaira Wasim and quit films, Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani has said. Wasim had announced on Sunday morning that she is quitting films since they were affecting her relationship with her Islamic faith.

“Actress Zaira’s (Wasim) decision to withdraw from films is praiseworthy. Hindu actresses should also take inspiration from Zaira,” read a tweet by Swami Chakrapani.

There was however no further information on how or why acting in films was at odds with Hindu religion or culture.

Wasim, 18, had posted a long note explaining her decision. In the note, she had explained her dysphoria in reconciling her adherence to her faith with the demands of being an actress. Her announcement had drawn comments of both solid support and strong criticism.

The criticism of Wasim’s decision covered a range of topics from patriarchy to radical Islam to the need to do it publicly. Arguments about her decision to quit films being her choice were met with counters over why the same yardstick of choice could not be applied to West Bengal MP Nusrat Jahan, who saw a fatwa issued against her for wearing sindoor to her swearing-in ceremony.

However, many politicians and celebrities jumped to Wasim defence and called on everyone to respect Wasim’s decision.

Wasim shot to prominence for playing a young Geeta Phogat in the runaway global hit ‘Dangal’ in 2016. She remained in the tutelage of her Dangal co-star Aamir Khan and went on to star in ‘Secret Superstar’ in 2017. Her third film, ‘The Sky is Pink’, is set to release soon. The film stars Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar. The makers of the film have issued a statement saying they totally support her decision.

  • BJP Mahila Morcha Leader Says Hindus Should Gangrape Muslim Women; Gets Expelled

Sunita Singh Gaur said Muslim mothers and sisters should have their “honour looted” as there is “no other way” to “protect India”.

New Delhi: Sunita Singh Gaur, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha in Uttar Pradesh’s Ramkola, has reportedly been removed from her position after she posted on Facebook that Hindu men should enter Muslim homes and rape the women.

“There is only one solution for them (Muslims). Hindu brothers should make a group of 10 and gang rape their (Muslims) mothers and sisters openly on the streets and then then hang them in the middle of the bazaar for others to see,” Gaur’s post in Hindi says.

She goes on to say that Muslim mothers and sisters should have their “honour looted” as there is “no other way” to “protect India”.

Lallantop reported that the comment has since been deleted and The Wire was unable to ascertain the exact date of the comment. Screenshots of the post have since gone viral on social media.

Vijaya Rahatkar, national president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, responded to a tweet about Gaur’s posts by saying that such “hateful comments” would not be tolerated and Gaur has been expelled.

According to the press release Rahatkar tweeted, Gaur was removed from her post on June 27.

While this would not be the first time BJP leaders have been accused of propagating hate online or offline, the fact that a Mahila Morcha leader was instigating rape and gruesome sexual violence shocked many on social media.

  • “Always Had Faith In People”: PM In First Mann Ki Baat Of Second Term

Mann Ki Baat: “When I had said in February that I will meet you again in a few months, people said I am over confident. However, I always had faith in the people of India,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, in his last Mann Ki Baat promised to return before long, today said he could make the promise because he “had faith in the people”. In the first edition of his popular radio address after the BJP’s mega victory in the national election, he said: “When I had said in February that I will meet you again in a few months, people said I am ‘overconfident’. However, I always had faith in the people of India”.
“For Mann Ki Baat, I receive so many letters and telephone-calls but there are hardly any elements of complain. Also, in the last five years, I haven’t come across any letter where people demand anything for themselves. Can you imagine such a thing? People writing letters to the Prime Minister demanding nothing for themselves! Such is the greatness of crores of countrymen,” PM Modi said.

“In the 2019 general elections of India, over 61 crore people voted. The number may seem small but if, barring China, we take the world into perspective, then it is more than population of any country in the world. The number of voters who voted in 2019 Lok Sabha elections is almost double the population of American and more than the population of entire Europe,” PM Modi said.

He focussed a large portion of his monthly radio address today on the issue of water crisis, asking citizens to find ways to save water.
“Over the last few months, so many people have written about water related issues. I am happy to see greater awareness on water conservation… I wrote a letter to Gram Pradhans on the importance of water conservation and how to take steps to create awareness on the subject across rural India,” he said.

“There is no fixed way to conserve water. In different parts, different methods may be adopted but the aim is same – to conserve every drop of water.”

The PM’s message to save water comes amid a severe water crisis in Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country. The southern state has been reeling under water stress for the past several months after four reservoirs including the Chembarambakkam lake – the largest reached its lowest level. The scorching heat and delayed monsoon further worsened the situation.

PM Modi’s BJP scored a victory in the national election this year bigger than in 2014 to emerge as the single-largest party. The party kept its core states – the Hindi heartland, Gujarat and Maharashtra – while posting fresh victories in West Bengal, Odisha and the northeast. It also scored a huge win in Karnataka – a state the Congress rules jointly with HD Kumaraswamy.

Menk while replying to her post on Facebook wrote, “May the Almighty bless you, be with you, keep guiding you, protect you, grant you goodness, happiness, contentment, bliss and success in this world and the next & the same for everyone of us. Aameen.”
