Jammu And Kashmir Assembly elections could be held after Ramzan
Srinagar, March 16: Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir could be held in June this year sources confirmed News agency Press Trust of Kashmir.
The Election Commission (EC) may announce the poll dates after the holy month of Ramzan is over and before the Amarnath Yatra begins on July 1. The ongoing spell of the President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir is due to get over on July 3. Assembly polls could be held in seven phases, higher than the five-phase Lok Sabha elections in the state.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration in its report and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a written communication to EC, had suggested conducting the parliamentary elections first, immediately followed by the assembly polls. The state administration had also opposed simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha elections. It had suggested the EC consider factors such as Ramzan, tentatively timed from May 5 to June 4, and Amarnath Yatra while finalising dates for assembly polls.
According to a reports, the union home secretary, in a review meeting with EC on February 18, had also endorsed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s view of holding assembly polls in June. However, it was only on February 26 that the MHA formally wrote to EC, backing a June state poll immediately after the Lok Sabha elections, said the report. (PTK)

Nehru’s Mistakes Turned Into Cancer For India: Amit Shah
New Delhi, March 15: BJP President Amit Shah Friday hit back over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks stating that before making such “insensitive remarks”, the Congress President should think about the mistakes committed by his party and his great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru on China and Kashmir, which he said had “turned into cancer for the country”.
Rahul Gandhi had blamed the BJP for the release of Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Masood Azhar during the earlier National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government,
The BJP Chief’s remarks came after Gandhi, at a public rally in Gandhinagar, asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not telling the nation that it was the earlier National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which had released Azhar — the man behind the Pulwama suicide bombing.
Shah added that by raising such questions, the Congress President was not just “displaying his insensitivity” but also questioning the wisdom of senior leaders of his own party.
“This debate does not start nor end with the release of Masood Azhar. This list is long, and if discussed, the Congress will look like the guilty party,” he wrote in a blog on Friday.
Shah said 10 years before the Kandahar flight hijack incident — which forced the government to release Azhar in exchange for the safe return of over 170 passengers — the Congress government released 10 terrorists in exchange for then Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s daughter Rubaiya Sayeed.
He said while the decision to release Azhar was taken through consensus in an all-party meeting called by Vajpayee, the UPA government in 2010 unilaterally released 25 terrorists as a goodwill gesture to improve relations with Pakistan, including a terrorist who went on to become one of the main handlers of the Pathankot terror attack.
“The Congress, which is today raising questions on a decision taken through consensus during a very sensitive situation, how will it answer the question of why those terrorists were released during its governments?” Shah asked in his post.
The BJP Chief wrote that at a time when Pakistan was under pressure, such questions being raised by the Congress and its President were helping those aiding terror.
“Today, when the world is not only looking at a strong India but is also standing firmly beside it, the Congress with its statements is helping those countries that do not want to see a strong India,” he said.
Shah said the Congress policy against terrorism, separatism and Naxalism had always been unsure and senior “Congress leader Sheila Dikshit had herself admitted that Manmohan Singh’s policy on terrorism was weaker compared to the strict policies of the Modi government”.
He also attacked Nehru for supporting China’s case for inclusion in the United Nation’s Security Council (UNSC) at India’s cost and said the same China was now repeatedly using its position in the Security Council to protect terrorist Masood Azhar by blocking India’s bid to designate him as a global terrorist.
“Nehru also made the mistake of taking Kashmir problem to the UN forum. Prior to insensitive comments on terrorism, Rahul Gandhi should consider these two mistakes of his party and Nehru. Both these mistakes have become cancer for the country,” Shah said. (Agencies)

From Kashmir to US, story of Valley’s first woman wheelchair basketball player
SRINAGAR: There are many Indian athletes who are physically challenged but are still setting benchmarks in various sporting events. Among them is 24-year-old Inshah Bashir who is the first woman wheelchair basketball player from Jammu & Kashmir.
Inshah was left wheelchair-bound at the age of 15 when she met with an accident that caused a spinal injury. A year earlier, she had diagnosed with a stomach ulcer that led to bleeding when she coughed and was only 14 back then.
Inshah hails from Budgam district which lacks proper medical facilities. She told The Logical Indian,
I was in class 12th when this incident happened. Following treatment for a major spinal injury proper, I became dependent on the wheelchair. Lack of proper medical facilities in Budgam even made it more difficult for my family and I was confined indoors. But my family’s constant support helped me to overcome that phase.
Inshah was an avid basketball lover since her childhood days. But what motivated her to take up the sport was witnessing people with disabilities like her playing the sport.
She saw this during a visit to the Shafqat Rehabilitation Center in Srinagar and since then she has never looked back. Even though there wasn’t any women’s in the valley, Inshah used to practice with the resources available and often play with the boys’ team.
Speaking to She The People, she said,
I saw some people like me and even in worse condition than me playing basketball. They suggested that I join them. At first, I felt I may not be able to do it, but then I did, and felt this game is interesting and convenient to play on a wheelchair.
In 2017, Inshah was selected in a team called “Rest of India” at the national level.
Little did she know that after nine years of her struggle and hard work, she would be invited by the US Consulate to participate in the Sports Visitor Programme 2019 to be held at North Carolina, USA.
Just like any other sportsperson, Inshah goes to the gym daily. Now her only aim is to bring a change in the Indian sporting scenario for women and bring out hidden talent, reports She The People.

NZ terror attack reaffirms what we have maintained: terrorism does not have a religion, says Imran Khan
Srinagar: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and other politicians strongly condemned Friday’s terrorist attack on two mosques in New Zealand, which killed 40 people and injured more than 20.
“Shocked and strongly condemn the Christchurch, New Zealand, terrorist attack on mosques,” said the premier on Twitter. “This reaffirms what we have always maintained: that terrorism does not have a religion. Prayers go to the victims and their families.”
“I blame these increasing terror attacks on the current Islamophobia post-9/11 where Islam & 1.3 billion Muslims have collectively been blamed for any act of terror by a Muslim,” he went on to say. “This has been done deliberately to also demonise legitimate Muslim political struggles.”

The terrorist identified himself as “Brenton Tarrant” – a white, 28-year-old Australian-born man. Twitter has shut down a user account in that name.
NZ Police Commissioner Mike Bush said he was aware the footage was on social media and police were doing everything they could to get it removed. “It shouldn’t be in the public domain.”

The gunman as he sped away from the mosque, firing several shotgun blasts at a vehicle.
