JRL had called for Shopian Chalo

Srinagar, Feb 01 : Srinagar administration has decided to impose restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in 7 police station areas tomorrow, the 2nd of February 2018.

The areas where restrictions will be imposed include Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj, and partial in Maisuma, Kralkhud.

A police official told KNS that the restrictions will be imposed as a precautionary measure.

It is pertinent to mention here that Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for Shopian Chalo on Tomorrow against the killing of five youth in Shopian. (KNS)

New Delhi: An eight-month-old baby girl has been raped allegedly by her cousin in the Indian capital, Delhi.

The girl is reportedly in a critical condition at a local hospital where she was brought in on Sunday.

Police told the media that they had arrested the 28-year-old accused, described as a daily wage worker.

Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, who visited the infant in hospital on Monday night, described her injuries as “horrific”.

The incident happened on Sunday but came to light on Monday after local media reported it .

Ms Maliwal tweeted that the girl had to undergo a three-hour operation.

“Her heart-rending cries could be heard in the intensive-care unit of the hospital. She has horrific injuries in her internal organs,” she tweeted .

She posted another tweet expressing her anguish.

“What to do? How can Delhi sleep today when 8 month baby has been brutally raped in capital? Have we become so insensitive or we have simply accepted this as our fate?” she tweeted.

Ms Maliwal also posted a direct appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that “stricter laws and more police resources” were needed to protect girls in the country.

Scrutiny of sexual violence has grown in India since the 2012 gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old student on a bus in the capital Delhi.

The crime sparked days of protests and forced the government to introduce tougher anti-rape laws, including the death penalty.

However, brutal sexual attacks against women and children continue to be reported across the country.

Kashmir Police Chief Repeats Offer To Local Militants

Srinagar: Police on Friday reiterated call to local militants to “come back home”. The police also said it was trying hard to counter militants who it said are “luring” educated youths into their folds in Kashmir Valley.
ADGP and Incharge IGP Kashmir Range Muneer Khan responded in affirmative to a question whether militant outfits were recruiting educated youths in their ranks.
Responding to a question on the sidelines of an official function on Republic Day,
“Yes the militant outfits especially Lashkar, Jaish and Hizb are luring the youth in militancy and they are trying hard to get youth into it especially some educated youth. And we are countering it the way we have to. Let us see how much we succeed,” Muneer Khan said while responding to a question by media on the sidelines of an official function here in connection with the Republic Day.
Certainly my appeal and commitment again will be to the youth who have joined militant outfits please come back to their families. No apprehensions no surrenders, rejoin your families, Muneer Khan according to GNS correspondent said.
To a question as to why educated youth are joining militant ranks, the Muneer Khan said: “99 % of today’s youth are educated and there are exceptional cases (alluding to those who have joined militant ranks). So we are also looking into it”.
On amnesty, the police officer said that hundreds of boys have been granted amnesty. “We are following the cases in the courts for their withdrawal and the process will be completed shortly. (GNS)

Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have apprehended a suspected woman “suicide bomber” from Kashmir Valley.

Additional Director General of Police and IGP Kashmir Range Muneer Khan while confirming the arrest of the woman suspect suicide bomber said: “In fact if you remember two days back, where it has been reported that one lady has come to valley who could be a suicide bomber. I tell you that time yes we will be verifying the input”.

So fortunately yesterday after working of all the leads we were able to apprehend the suspect late last night. So we will be taking to her, talking to our sister agencies, we will be covering every other lead to know what the facts are, Khan according to GNS said.

A case has been registered and further investigations into the case have been launched, he said.

Police sources, meanwhile, identified the lady as 18 year old human suicide bomber Sadiya Sheikh from Pune.

Pertinently, a high alert had sounded in Kashmir following an intelligence input that a non-Kashmiri woman suicide bomber might disrupt the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations in the Valley.

According to a message circulated from the office of Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) to all district police heads and chief of security wing in Kashmir, “there is a strong input” that an 18-year-old woman non-Kashmiri woman might “cause a suicide bomb explosion” near or inside the Republic Day parade in Kashmir.

“All are directed to please ensure that frisking of ladies at the (venues) is done meticulously and with utmost caution so as to thwart the designs of anti-national elements,” reads the message. (GNS)

Currently, Kashmir is under the grip of 40 days of harshest winter known as ‘Chilai Kalan’, a period in winter when the mercury touches the below freezing point and the cold wave intensifies. “The rain and snow is required because the weather has been dry so far. It will impact the water table in summers if it doesn’t rain or snow soon,” the Met official said.

Srinagar: After more than a month of prolonged dry weather, rain and snow was predicted in the Valley between January 28 and 29, officials of the Meteorological (Met) Department said.

The official said the department was monitoring the weather situation, as the winter had been dry so far.

“Between January 28 and 29, rain and snow is expected,” the official said.

The cold wave intensified further in the Valley on Wednesday as the gap between the maximum and minimum temperatures narrowed down both in the winter and summer capital.

“The chill increases when the gap between the maximum and minimum temperatures narrows. The maximum temperature in Jammu on Tuesday was 13.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum on Wednesday was 6 degrees Celsius. Similarly in Srinagar it was 7.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum was – 4.3 degrees Celsius,” the official said.

On January 30 Met has predicted rain in the Valley.

The weather was, however, expected to improve from Wednesday and the day temperatures were again expected to rise on Thursday and Friday, an Met official said.

The minimum temperature was – 5.9 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam and -8 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg on Wednesday.

The officials said on January 25, 26 and 27, the weather would mainly remain dry.

JAMMU, JANUARY 24: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief and anguish over the killing of a youth in the Chaigund village of Shopian district today.

The Chief Minister termed the killing as unfortunate. She appealed youth to stay away from the spots of gunfights. She has prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Shopian village of south Kashmir.

SSP Shopian Shri Ram Ambarkar told GNS that a joint team of army, police and CRPF cordoned off the Chaigund village following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants opened fire triggering off an encounter.

Jammu: Ruling People’s Democratic Party Tuesday said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik can play a key role in the resolution of Kashmir issue.

“A mainstream politician in Kashmir has only two priorities. One is to save his life and another to save his vote bank. These two priorities diverted his attention from Kashmir issue,” Javaid Hussain Beigh, MLA Baramulla said.

“So far neither mainstream politicians nor Hurriyat have managed to move to the right direction. We are scared while Hurriyat is a divided lot. Geelani is hardcore while Shabir Shah is a confused and directionless politician. There is hope in Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik who are liberals. It is their duty to chalk out future strategy and convince Geelani to hold talks with Government of India,” Beigh said.

He added that if Mirwaiz and Malik fail to convince Geelani, then the duo should go ahead and start unconditional dialogue with India. Mirwaiz and Malik should ask Pakistan to keep borders cool and at the same time convince Syed Salahuddin to enter into a ceasefirs agreement. As the dialogue process starts, mainstream parties from Jammu and Kashmir should convene a special Assembly session urging upon India to resolve Kashmir issue in such a manner that it will be win-win situation for all the three parties: India, Pakistan and people of Jammu and Kashmir. If some mainstream parties will oppose the move then National Conference and PDP should get united in the interest of people of Kashmir who are the main sufferers,” Javaid Hussain Beigh said.

PDP legislator said that shying away from dialogue process will add to trouble. “People of Kashmir are suffering. Hatred begets hatred. Killings of soldiers and militants are widening the gap between people of Kashmir and India. Cutting across party lines we have to unite in the interest of people of Kashmir and find a solution to this problem,” Beigh said.

Responding to a question, Beigh said forging an alliance by PDP with BJP is not an issue at all for the people of Kashmir. “There is a larger issue and that is Kashmir issue. People desperately want resolution to the Kashmir issue. Can you guarantee us, if PDP breaks away with BJP, then the youth of Kashmir will stop taking gun and Burhan Wani like boys will stop influencing youth? He questioned.
