  • Govt will be responsible for consequences if president not released tomorrow: DAK

Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) described continued detention of their president as by police as unfortunate and condemnable as his continued detention is affecting patient care at SMHS hospital. Besides head of DAK Dr Nissar is also associate professor at medical college and there are large numbers of patients under his supervision. There is nothing wrong in stating that police can’t enter in Operation Theater and Intensive care units with shoes on in search of injured youngsters. In these high dependence areas even medical staff has to change cloths, wash hands five times, wear sanitized gowns and remove their rings and watch as infection control measure. It seems there is no freedom of speech and right to show dissent in this state. In a statement DAK spokesperson Dr Suhail Naik appealed doctors to shut routine work in all hospitals for one hour from 10:00 Am to 11:00 am, but continue work in emergencies, Critical care Units and operation theaters so that common people will not suffer. Dr Naik warned state government that if Dr Hassan is not released by tomorrow, we will be forced to shut the emergency services also and state government will be responsible for the consequences.

  • Construction of Jehangir Chowk- Rambagh ‘affect’ shopkeepers

Solina traders block traffic, demand compensation

Srinagar: Shopkeepers took out protest march and blocked the traffic at Solina in Srinagar protesting against the government’s indifference towards them.

The shopkeepers complained that their business has got affected due to construction work of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover.
The flyover project, which was in July 2009 and had to be completed in three years, hit many roadblocks, including litigation by traders, who are to be relocated to make way for the project.
Demanding compensation, the traders had earlier put a proposal before the authorities so that their grievances could be addressed.

“The shopkeepers protested against the failure of the government to provide them compensation. Police had also taken action, but we (KTMF) reached and handled the situation,” Said Farhan Kitab, media advisor to Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF).

He said that the additional DC also reached the spot and fixed a meeting with the Divisional Commissioner.
Expressing disappointment on the part of Government, Chairman KTMF, Yasin Khan said that it was unfortunate that the government had rendered the shopkeepers helpless.
“This has become a police state. We have conducted the meeting with Divisional commissioner but I don’t expect anything yet,” Khan said

He said that the market consists near about 150 shops and serves a source of income to more than 300 families, “but government has done nothing for their rehabilitation nor have they been given any compensation”.

“The road is littered with construction material, there is no space for parking and the pollution level has gone up three folds. The customer footfall to the shops has dropped by over 100 percent,” he said.
Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Shailender Kumar while commenting on the issue said, “We have not promised them anything. There is no such policy at all.”

“They are claiming that there business has got affected and are demanding rehabilitation. There is no such provision. Rehabilitation policy is for the displaced ones. But they are not subject to any rehabilitation,” Kumar told Rising Kashmir.

“I have asked them to get all the details tomorrow. If the demands will be genuine, I will take up the case with government,” Kumar added.

  • Dr. Farooq Abdullah was living in a world of his own, divorced from reality

    Shadab Bashir

The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining, but as far as Senior Abdullah is concerned his son is no more shining in the mountain valley. Recent elections have shown that the dusk has arrived for the National Conference leadership. The son of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and the patron-saint of NC Dr. Farooq Abdullah has been dethroned by the foot-soldiers of PDP.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah was living in a world of his own, divorced from reality. Perhaps, he knows the trick how to crack the jokes and make people laugh, but this time his “laughter show” could not convince people because agony and sufferings have increased manifold in Kashmir during his son’s regime. He was knocked down along with his other colleagues in the political arena like never before.

It is a great embarrassment for the party, and certainly demolished the courage and hope among other party workers. Perhaps, according to some political pundits, this defeat is a trailer, and they must get ready for vanquish in the upcoming assembly elections.

Now Omar Abdullah is counting his own faults and regretting what he did during the past more than five years, but will it give any benefit to his party National Conference, obviously not because that time has gone. There is no sympathy among most of the people toward him for unconcealed reasons.

From Afzal Guru’s hanging to 2010 killings and from Shopian rape and murder case to non-revocation of AFSPA, Omar Abdullah spun so many webs, which eventually trapped nobody except him.

However, it could be seen that those people who boycotted elections as they have no faith in process, and they believe NC and PDP are two faces of same coin, but still it was observed that few among them are happy to see NC people, including their patron to hide their faces in shame.
