    “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can,” a message on the Facebook website said.

    WhatsApp acknowledged the outage on Twitter:

    Users posted messages on Twitter saying the popular social networking and communication platforms were inaccessible from around 9 pm Indian time.

    The website downdetector.com, which tracks web services, also reported a sharp spike in complaints by users.

    The portal showed there were more than 20,000 incidents of people reporting issues with Facebook and Instagram.

    Meanwhile, the social-media giant’s instant messaging platform WhatsApp was also down for over 14,000 users, while Messenger was down for nearly 3,000 users.

    All three Facebook properties are market leaders in India in their categories of instant messaging, photo sharing and social networking.

    Facebook has more than 410 million users in India, and its WhatsApp messenger counts the country as its biggest market with over 530 million users. Instagram has over 210 million users in India.

    Lars Vilks had lived under police protection since depicting Islam’s revered figure with the body of a dog in 2007.

    Lars Vilks, the Swedish artist who stirred worldwide controversy in 2007 with drawings depicting the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has been killed in a car crash.

    The 75-year-old died on Sunday in an accident near the southern town of Markaryd, Swedish police said in a statement.

    Vilks, who had lived under police protection since the drawings were published, was travelling in a police car that collided with a truck.

    The car, which had left Stockholm and was heading south, veered into the path of the truck and both vehicles burst into flames.

    Two police officers were also killed.

    The truck driver was flown to a hospital with serious injuries.

    Police said they did not know why the car drove into the wrong lane but they were investigating whether a tyre might have exploded.

    The car transporting Vilks had puncture-proof tyres, police said. However, exploded tyre remains were reportedly found on the road.

    “Initially, there is nothing that points to anyone else being involved.”

    SRINAGAR, OCT 04: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has called Uttar Pradesh “Naya J&K” as the row over the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri escalated on Monday.

    Omar Abdullah, tweet comes in the backdrop of violence in Uttar Pradesh Lakhimpur Kheri. Eight people were killed in violence on Sunday after a Union minister’s son allegedly ran over a group of farmers who were staging a protest in Lakhimpur Kheri.

    Earlier, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, “Applying Section 144 wherever human rights & dignity is trampled has emerged as GOIs preferred approach. This government shows no hesitation in using an iron fist with its own people but welcomes Chinese troops with open arms.”

    “One can’t even compare the oppression unleashed in J&K since 2019 but the common denominators are obvious. What started in J&K was sadly met with an air of indifference & has now engulfed the entire country. When will we speak up?” she added.

  • Umrah Capacity Raised To 3 Million Pilgrims Per Month

    MAKKAH – The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has increased the capacity of Umrah Pilgrims in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah to 100,000 per day.

    The Ministry also increased the visiting capacity for prayers to 60,000 per day.

    This comes after Saudi Arabia plans to welcome an influx of pilgrims from abroad starting next month.

    Earlier the Ministry announced that it was ready to host pilgrims with previous quota numbers as before the pandemic.

  • Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s Nattu Kaka, dies at 77

    Veteran actor Ghanashyam Nayak, best known for his work as Nattu Kaka on the popular sitcom “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah”, passed away on Sunday after a long battle with cancer, producer Asit Kumarr Modi said.

    The actor, who was in his late 70s, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

    Modi, who is the creator of “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah”, said the actor’s health deteriorated in the past few days.

    “He passed away today evening. He wasn’t keeping well for a long time. He had cancer. He always wanted to keep shooting. Even though he was unwell, work would always make him happy. I would look for opportunities to get him on the show. But it had become difficult for him to shoot. For the last two days he was extremely unwell,” Modi told PTI.

    Nayak appeared in nearly 100 Hindi and Gujarati films, apart from featuring on more than 300 TV serials.

    The veteran actor was also known for his work in the Gujarati theatre.

    Earlier this year, during his chemotherapy, Nayak had shot for a special episode of “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah”.

    He is survived by his wife and three children.

  • 80 percent railway project work completed in JK: Union Minister Jardosh

    Union Minister of State, Textile and Railways, Darshana Vikram Jardosh on Saturday said that around 80 percent of railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir have been completed.

    Jardosh said, “Almost 80 percent of the work in the railway project of Jammu and Kashmir has been completed and the remaining twenty percent will be completed by 2023.”

    Addressing press conference here, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Jardosh said that she visited district Kulgam in south Kashmir on Friday as part of the ongoing public outreach programme.

    “The railways project in Jammu and Kashmir is all set to become a game changer which connects the Srinagar, Baramulla and Udhampur stations,” she said.

    Jardosh said, “I started the tour of the railway project from Srinagar and on reaching the Banihal station; I took a stock of the tunnel. It was good to see the efforts of the technicians of India who had done a hard work in constricting the tunnel.”

    “It is very hard to work to complete the railway project in Jammu and Kashmir because most of the bridges and other works have to be carried out in the hilly areas. It would be a proud movement for the Government of India (GoI) to see the project completed,” she said.

    She said that the work for the tunnel never stopped, but during the COVID-19, the pace of the work slowed a bit.

    “In order to boost the economy of Jammu and Kashmir, we have to focus on exporting goods. In this regard, we are looking for a site of handloom and textiles in many areas to compete in the global market,” Jardosh said.

    Besides the railway project, Jardosh said that while India was trying hard on Swach Bharat Abhiyan, she found many areas full of plastic bottles, scraps and polythene bags lying on the ground.

    “I appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to take good care of the cleanliness because for the development, this is one of the major works to do,” she said.

  • RSS chief insists on setting up shakhas in J&K to inculcate ‘patriotism’ among people

    Jammu: Asserting that the Sangh must set an example for others by creating a peaceful society that takes everyone along, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday stressed setting up a network of shakhas’ across Jammu and Kashmir to inculcate patriotism among people.

    Bhagwat arrived in Jammu on Thursday on a four-day visit to the union territory during which he will meet intellectuals and prominent citizens.

    This is Bhagwat’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019, when the erstwhile state’s special status was ended and it was bifurcated into union territories — J-K and Ladakh.

    On Friday, he held detailed discussions with pracharaks on various aspects especially working of the Sangh in the union territory, an RSS spokesman said.

    Bhagwat stressed spreading of the organisation’s work in new areas and further setting up the network of RSS shakhas in every nock and corner of Jammu and Kashmir to inculcate patriotism among people, he said.

    The RSS chief said swayamsevaks must set an example for others by creating a peaceful society that takes everyone along.

    “We have to expand our work in scope and make it more organized,” he said.

    The Sarsanghchalak also reviewed various projects initiated by the J-K RSS for the development of villages and rural economy, the spokesman said. PTI

  • Civilian injured in Batamaloo succumbs: Officials

    Srinagar, Oct 02: A civilian, who was injured after being shot at by unknown gunmen in Batamaloo area of Srinagar, succumbed to his injuries, officials said here.

    Official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that unknown gunmen shot at a civilian identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar son of Abdul Rehman Dar of Batamaloo.

    They said that he had received bullet injuries in his abdomen and was shifted to SMHS hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries

    Meanwhile, hospital sources also confirmed to KNO that the civilian succumbed to his injuries during the treatment—(KNO)

  • Man shot dead, another Critically injured in Srinagar  

    Srinagar, Oct 2: A man was shot dead and another injured by unknown gunmen, suspected to be militants, at Karan Nagar and Batamaloo areas here this afternoon, officials said.

    They said the man identified as Majid Guru son of Abdul Rehman of Chatabal Srinagar was fired from point blank and suffered injuries in chest, face and abdomen. He was immediately rushed to nearly SMHS hospital where he succumbed to the wounds. Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr. Kanwar Jeet Singh confirmed to GNS that the man was brought dead.

    Later in a statement issued, police said that at about 1730 hours, Police received information about a firing incident near Madina Complex Karan Nagar. Senior police officers reached at the crime spot, statement reads.

    “Officers attending the crime spot learnt that one individual identified as Majid Ahmad Gojri son of Abdul Rehman resident of Chattabal Srinagar was shot at by the (militants). He has received grievous gunshot injuries in this incident,” the statement reads, adding, “Although, the injured was immediately evacuated to nearby hospital, however he succumbed to his injuries.”

    Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law.”Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on.”

    Meanwhile, unknown gunmen suspected to be militants fired upon a civilian at SD Colony area of Batamaloo.

    “At about 2000 hours Police received information about an incident at SD Colony Batamaloo area of Srinagar where (militants) had fired upon a civilian,” police said, adding, “Preliminary investigation revealed that (militants) had fired upon a civilian identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar son of Abdul Rehman Dar of Batamaloo at SD Colony Batamaloo area of Srinagar.”

    In this incident, Dar has received critical gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment of his injuries.

    “Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on.” (GNS)

  • Education Alert: 10th, 12th exams likely to commence between Nov 1-14

    Srinagar: The annual regular exams of classes 10 and 12 will be held in the first and second week of November in Kashmir, top official of Board of School Education (BOSE) said on Saturday.

    The official informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the annual regular exams of 12th standard will be held in the first week of November and 10th standard in its second week.

    BOSE officials said that it will issue the date sheet soon. “We are about to finish the examination preparation.”

    Pertinently, the government in the second week of August has reduced the syllabi of secondary and higher secondary classes of Jammu and Kashmir by thirty percent following the closure of schools in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

    BOSE has said that the question papers will be set from the entire syllabus prescribed for the session. However, the students shall have to attempt questions having weightage of 70 percent marks instead of attempting all the questions.

    “The marks obtained by students who attempt less than 70 percent from the question paper shall be raised proportionately while the subjects having no practical course, the question paper shall be of 100 marks and the student has to attempt questions with a total of 70 marks,” BOSE said.

    It further said, “The papers having three hours of duration shall be having only 2.30 hours of time, the subjects having 2.30 hours and 2.00 hours duration shall be having only 2.10 hours and 1.40 hrs time period for attempting the questions during examination.”—(KNO)
