  • JRL may end its hartal politics

Srinagar: JRL may end its hartal politics The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik are mulling to shun the two-decade practice of calling strikes after every untoward incident.
Sources said the JRL is thinking about replacing the shutdowns with protests similar to ones carried against the proposal to repeal Article 35-A of the constitution.
They said during the ongoing consultation with all sections of the society that include religious organisations, lawyers, traders, transporters, employees, academicians, civil society members, it was agreed that continuous hartals were not serving any purpose to stop the killing spree in the Valley.
Sources said, according to the new strategy, on the JRL call, different organisation would carry out a protest on a particular day across the Valley to pressurise the government to stop the “killing of civilians” in Kashmir.
“The protests will be similar to ones that were carried during the protests against the attempts to abrogate the special status of Jammu Kashmir. Every day different sectors like transporters, traders, bar association, civil society, shikara owners, hoteliers will carry out protest rallies in various parts of the Valley,” sources said.
JRL has often come under severe criticism of the public for not finding any alternative to hartal calls that badly impacts the State’s economy.
On October 30, in a meeting held at Geelani’s Hyderpora residence, the three leaders had a thorough discussion on the prevailing situation in Kashmir.
Afterward, they announced they were going to have a wide-range consultation with all sections of the society to frame a comprehensive joint strategy against “Indian suppression”, which they said has reached “beyond tolerable levels”.
Sources said all the organisations that held meetings with the JRL for the last few days were on a common ground that the Hurriyat leaders should shun the idea of calling strike calls after every untoward incident and instead devise a well-thought out protest calendar.
“All the organisations have assured the leadership that they will religiously follow their protest calls and do their bit to highlight the deteriorating condition of human rights in the Valley,” the sources said.
They said apart from protest calls, JRL would also reach out to the international community by writing to all the High Commissioners to India to apprise them about the human rights violation in Kashmir.

Whole Valley plunged into darkness due to sudden snowfall. The unpreparedness on part of authorities shocked one and all. Governor administration came under heavy criticism after there was power breakdown across Kashmir Valley due to few inches of snow.

An official told that they are ready to meet any challenge this time.

  • ANOTHER SNOWFALL IN J&K NEXT WEEK?

Srinagar: Interpretation of the available data indicates that another spell of snowfall and rains is likely across Jammu & Kashmir between November 11 and 14.

A mid-altitude Subtropical Westerly Jet (SWJ), commonly referred to as Western Disturbance in Jammu & Kashmir, is likely to approach J&K on November 10.

Significantly, this is the second major Subtropical Westerly Jet (SWJ) to strike J&K in three weeks time. Such frequent Western Disturbances in November month are unusual, if not unprecedented.

An expert at the International Research Institute for Climate and Society told Ziraat Times that such frequent early Subtropical Westerly Jet (SWJ) ‘may be a result of weak El Nino impact this fall and winter.’

Analysis of the probable wind direction, surface and atmospheric temperature in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan region, north-east Afghanistan, likely cloud density and orographic effect by Ziraat Times suggests varied snowfall activity in Kashmir, Ladakh and mountainous parts of Jammu provinces during November 11 and 14.

Likely charge variations between the aerosols in the Kashmir valley (mostly due to smoke in its atmosphere) and the natural charge of the orographic effect may result in extensive lightening and thunder, resulting in heavier snowfall in Pirpanjal, Outer Himalayas range between Gund-Baltal areas, Zojila Pass and Zanasar-Kishtwar and Doda belt.

    Outlook for Kashmir plains

In Kashmir plains, widespread snowfall activity is likely on Monday and Tuesday. While most of the plains, including Karewa areas, to begin with, are likely to receive rainfall, snowfall activity is not ruled out during this period.

Ziraat Times will issue a revised outlook on Friday with more specific expected conditions in Kashmir valley plains during the coming week.

    Outlook for Jammu region

Significant snowfall activity is likely in upper areas of Poonch, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Reasi, Doda and Udhampur starting Monday and Tuesday.

Ziraat Times will issue a revised outlook on Friday with more specific expected conditions in Jammu plains.

    Outlook for Ladakh region

Significant snowfall activity starting Monday in Kargil and Zanaskar areas. Ziraat Times will issue a revised outlook on Friday with more specific expected conditions.

    Outlook for Pirpanjal, including Gulmarg

Snowfall is likely to start on Sunday, 10th November evening or early morning of Monday, 11th November, and will continue until Wednesday, albeit with some breaks.

The main snowfall activity, due to the accelerated orographic effect across the Pirpanjal range, would be on 13 and 14th November.

    Outlook for Zojila-Sonamarg areas

Significant snowfall activity is likely in Zojila-Sonamarg areas starting 10th November. Main snowfall is likely to happen between 12 and 14 November in this area.

While this forecast is valid for short and medium term, some enlarged snowfall activity is not ruled out in this Himalayan area November 25 onwards.

Jammu Massacre Most Barbaric In Human History, Says Geelani; Mirwaiz, Malik Also Pay Tributes, Term Killings ‘Ugly Blot On Humanity’

Chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Jammu martyrs who were massacred on November 6, 1947.

Syed Ali Geelani, chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), in a statement issued termed the Jammu Massacre of 1947 as the worst tragedy. He said that slaughtering lakhs of Muslims “jointly by Dogra army, Indian forces, Hindutwa fascist groups like RSS and Shivsena and other communal forces” is a brazen and most barbaric incident human history can ever come across.

“All the areas of Jammu region witnessed the ugliest and most brutal human carnage and all streets and fields of Jammu region were flooded with blood and flesh of Muslims,” he said.

Hurriyat (G) chairman said that under a deep and well-knit conspiracy, it was announced that those willing to go to Pakistan are advised to assemble in Jammu police lines. He said Hari Singh and his troops had unleashed a reign of terror and Muslim population was not only traumatized but terrified as well and the announcement to send them to Pakistan served a cool breeze and a great sight of relief for them.

Geelani said the people assembled in the said venue along with their families including women and kids. “They were boarded in trucks to be taken to Samba. On reaching halfway near a narrow lane, they were de-boarded, young and beautiful females were taken away and the rest of people including kids were pumped with bullets. These blood thirsty vultures did not stop there but the vandalism and bloodshed continued for months. Reports of loot, arson, gutting down houses unabated killings poured in from every city and town of Jammu province. Females were molested and gang-raped, some of them jumped in river Chenab to save their chastity and honour,” he said.

Even the daughter of Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas was not speared and was kidnapped, the pro-freedom leader said in the statement.

“Although the tallest political personality of Kashmir was holding the authority and chair of administrator and all this butchery was being carried out under his glaring eyes but he was more concerned and worried about his own chair,” he said.

“Since that day, our bloodshed is continuing,” Geelani said, adding, “The people at the helm of affairs at that time were acting as deaf mute spectators focused only on their personal and family gains.”

Meanwhile, a prayer meeting was held at Hurriyat (G) headquarters in favour of martyrs of Jammu Massacre, the statement said.

In a statement, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while paying rich tributes to Jammu Martyrs said, “The ethnic cleansing of the Muslims including men, women and children that took place on this day 70 years ago is an extremely painful chapter in the history of our freedom struggle besides an eye-opener for the entire humanity across the globe.”

“Exactly 70 years ago in Jammu, the gruesome murder of lakhs of members of a particular community with a sole aim of changing the demography of the region was an abhorring act and it was done in a systematic and planned manner,” he said.

Mirwaiz termed the great sacrifices offered by the lakhs of Muslims in Jammu region as a biggest asset to the ongoing movement of right to self-determination. The sacrifices rendered by the lakhs of people will be written in the J&K’s history with golden letters and these martyrs will always be remembered for their priceless sacrifice for a great and sacred cause, he said.

Hurriyat (M) chairman said the hearts of the people of Kashmir and Jammu region especially Chenab and Doda Valley beat in unison as “our political aspirations are one, a fact which can’t be ignored”.

Muhammad Yasin Malik, chief of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JLKF), in a statement said the massacre of lakhs of Muslims at Jammu on 6 November 1947 is “an ugly blot on the face of humanity and the blackest day of our human history”.

“The colonial and fascist mindset that carried out Jammu genocide in 1947 is even today busy in massacring Kashmiri youth without any remorse or regret,” Malik said.

“Jammu massacre of 1947 not only reminds us of the brutal and criminal face of fascism but also the criminal silence of the international community exposing its duplicity and double standards vis-a-vis humans and humanity,” Yasin Malik said adding that the people who were massacred at Jammu in 1947 stood for the freedom of Jammu Kashmir.

“The sacrifices of Jammu Muslims for freedom of Jammu Kashmir are a glorious page of our resistance,” he said.
